Addon Beyond Typus Miscellanea

描述
The intention of this Beyond Typus add-on is to adjust/tweak/change/overhaul/rework a wide variety of gameplay balance details in the interest of improving how the original game's systems work with the many new provinces added in Beyond Typus, and also includes several other balance and gameplay adjustments according to my own preferences, generally in the interest of trying to make things more realistic, logical, and historical. This is a balance overhaul, but the goal is to still leave it feeling unobtrusive and like it is part of the original game.

Please note that this is what I might call an open beta. It should not contain any errors or bugs, but it also does not yet contain all the features/level of detail I eventually have planned for it. I also welcome suggestions.

Compatible with Europa Universalis IV version: 1.28

Known Bugs, Issues, Problems, & Complaints
None. Though be warned that the balance adjustments generally encourage what I feel to be historical/historically plausible balance, which in some cases means asymmetrical balances of power, making the game potentially easier, harder, and/or more frustrating (though hopefully more logical), it might not be for everyone. If you do encounter any true errors, please do report them and I'll do my best to resolve the issue.

Compatibility
This is an addon for Beyond Typus, and has been optimally balanced for the Terrain Overhaul Addon for Beyond Typus as well, though it will still function with neither. Be warned that using this addon with the unmodded game will likely give European, Anatolian, and Muslim nations a slight unfair advantage. Also be aware that it is fully compatible with very few other mods which also adjust gameplay balance, though mod conflicts may result in anything from imperceptibly suboptimal balance (with most small, well written mods) to major errors (mostly for poorly written mods or major overhauls).

Old Save Compatibility?
This addon should not cause any technical issues (either by adding it or removing it), though it does alter gameplay balance and as such addition/removal of it mid-game may create some (hopefully not too drastic) balance issues (nations suddenly being under/over their force limits, or income/expenses changing noticeably).

Achievements?
Nope, it changes game files, sorry.

May I Use Your Work In My Mod?
Generally, my policy is you may use my work if I may use yours, but please do let me know if you plan to do so.

More Information
Contrary to my policy in the main mod, where I typically change as little as possible in vanilla systems, this addon significantly overhauls balance in several ways, hence the reason I am making this a seperate, and optional, addon. Here are some of the main features/changes:
  • Rebalance of the fort system - Generally, sieges should require smaller armies and be more random, though on average take a similar amount of time.

  • Rebalance of buildings - This is primarily a systematic and comprehensive overhaul of how the AI handles buildings, in the interest of improving building balance in BT. There are a number of adjustments and tweaks to the actually buildings, as well, however.

  • Rebalance of AI idea choices - A handful of minor and unobtrusive adjustments, mostly influencing how the AI chooses its ideas.

  • Adjustments to Technology - Adusted a few values like colonial ranges, or shock and fire bonuses, to hopefully make technology progression slightly smoother (and hopefully make the bonuses a more logical match the descriptions) while also optimising it for the Typus Orbis Terrarum projection used in Beyond Typus.

  • Adjustments to Estates - Changed a a few values for estates with the goal of making them slightly less annoying (and also slightly less exploitable). Eventually, I plan to improve how the AI handles estate interactions and overhaul some of the interactions themselves.

  • Unit Balance - Formerly a completely different addon, I've now merged Unit Balance with this BT Miscellanea addon. Generally the point is to improve the balance and distribution of pips and more closely follow the descriptions of the units themselves. Cavalry is also made slightly stronger in later years, to the point of being a (still more expensive) viable option to field, and anyone shooting things (spears, arrows, etc.) now deals fire damage, rather than shock.

  • Miscellaneous tweaks and adjustments - From the maximum die rolls in combat to the cost of enforcing vassalisation in war, from the chance of native uprisings to the penalties from war exhaustion, hundreds of vanilla values have been adjusted. The primary goals being historical plausibility and logical gameplay while taking into account the larger number of provinces in Beyond Typus.

I was hoping at some point, a compatch for BT and Missions Expanded would become available, as i'm not sure how i would change the mission requirements etc to meet BT's new provinces and everything else it adds.

There is 'technically' one out there, but it has to be used in conjunction with a whole slew of other mods that i might not feel like running, so a standalone would be nice. Any idea how one would go about that or if one is in the works already?

I'm going to stan the china addon and say it was at least ahead of it's time in what Eu4 is supposed to be capable of depicting ingame.

There's two ways to allow it to overwrite the other mods' files. One is to simply place it on top of the mods it intends to compatch in the launcher, which will tell the game that it should "overwrite stuff" in mods below it (For the pedantic/technically-minded, it doesn't overwrite, it just doesn't let mods below overwrite its files, but the effect is the same).

The other and more reliable way is to muck about with the "dependencies" field inside the descriptor.mod and the autogenerated .mod file that ends up in your EU4 My Documents folder. When declaring dependencies, you must use the exact name of the mod as shown on the workshop. I'd recommend taking a look at my mods' ugc_<numbers>.mod files for this (They're just .txt files in disguise, so open them with any text editor of your choice). The numbers in the ugc.mod file should match the workshop ID of the mod (Check the URL in your Steam browser, it should be up there at the end shown as "?id=<numbers>".

Hmmm, doesn't sounds as hard as i thought it would be, but how do you make it overwrite the base mod files themselves to make the mods work together? I'm quite curious about this

Making your own compatches is actually quite easy if you know how to use programs such as WinMerge. Assuming there are not further things causing issues, all you need to do is use WinMerge to detect what files both mods alter. Once you've detected that, you make a copy of one of the mods' files, then use WinMerge to add the changes from the other mod's files. :)

As for the China addon, I can't say it's well regarded among the BT community due to it massively shifting the balance in the region. Sure, its provinces may be well-drawn and all, but as far as I remember, it quadrupled both Chinese and Korean development, which makes it practically impossible for Qing to form, for example.

Well, i ran a nice set of BT + Addons yesterday and it worked like a charm. Ran most of the Extended mod family (barring IGE and TGE), as well as Byz Resurgence, Bugfixing and Byz Resurgence. Wish i knew how to mod and make my own compatches, but it'll be something i'd need to learn, and have a feeling it wouldn't be very simple.

Still, Byz' gov reforms with Byz Resurgence and GE is a pretty sweet set of reforms. The only BT addon that unfortunately doesn't seem to work anymore is the China addon, but it's near two years out of date and it's author also seems to be MIA.

@PrussianGeneral

Sadly, no. Idea Variation seems poorly supported among BT addons. I would personally recommend moving away from it, as BT has a building addon, a gov reform addon and as for new idea groups, Idea Groups Expanded is much more compatible with BT and addons, with the only incompatibility showing in ages with regards to dev doubling (If it's put first on the modlist).

Just to ask, is there actually a compatch between this and the More Buildings addon? I can only find the '10 Ideas for BT Misc' compatch with the Buildings addon

@prussiangeneral over the course of several days I brought that to his attention and he recebtly uploaded an update to the compatibility patch for IV and BT so try it again. I shared your frustration.

Hi, we are an EU4 multiplayer discord server and sometimes we broadcast our games and play with mods - https://discord.gg/UuwJgvP . Can we broadcast your mod in our multiplayer sessions? We normally play modded games every single Thursday and we give a request to the moderator before streaming.
