Introduction
This is a relatively short guide on how to complete the "Rock Paper and Scissors" puzzle encountered in the "Peace Festival" section of the game.

The aim of the game is to beat the NPC in a game of Rock, Paper and Scissors in eight successive rounds. (a tied round still counts as a fail in this puzzle). You have unlimited attempts at this puzzle and the NPC will always choose the same sequence, however the NPC will only tell you if you won or not after inputting all eight guesses.

Since you would otherwise have a 1/6561 chance at guessing the correct combination, the NPC will provide you with eight clues on what sequence she will pick. You have to use your logic to work out what sequence the NPC will use, then input your sequence that will beat her choices.

Remember: the paper covers the rock, the scissors cut the paper, and the rock blunts the scissors!

I will detail how I reached the solution in the sections that follow, however if you just want the answer, just scroll down to the end of the walkthrough.
The Clues
The clues you are given are:
  1. I will make the same choice in Rounds 2 and 3
  2. I will never make the same choice for more than twice in a row
  3. I will make the same choice in rounds 1 and 4
  4. My choice in round 5 will beat my choice in round 1
  5. I will make the same choice in rounds 5 and 7
  6. I will not pick paper in round 2 or in round 4
  7. I will not pick rock in round 3 or round 8
  8. I will pick paper less than I pick rock or scissors
Since you would normally only see these clues one at a time, it would be prudent to write them down in a notepad as you go along, (or do what I do and Alt+Tab out of the game and type them out in MS Notepad)
The Logical Progression
Step One
The first step is to look at the clues where the items will be the same for two sets (i.e. clues 1, 3 and 5). I labelled these pairs "A", "B" and "C"
  1. B
  2. A
  3. A
  4. B
  5. C

  6. C
At this point I don't know if A will be the same as B or C, or if B is the same as C until I take the other clues into account.

Step Two
The second clue is I will never make the same choice for more than twice in a row. Immediately I know that A and B must be different to each other, because if they were the same, the first four choices would then be the same, which would be a violation of this clue.

By the same token, the 6th choice cannot be the same as C as that would be three C's in a row.
  1. B, not A
  2. A, not B
  3. A, not B
  4. B, not A
  5. C
  6. not C
  7. C
Step Three
The sixth clue tells us that the NPC will not pick paper in rounds 2 or 4, meaning that Paper will not be A or B. The seventh clue tells us that the NPC will not pick rock in rounds 3 or 8, meaning that rock will not be A. By process of elimination, A must therefore be scissors.

In addition, as we now know that B cannot be Paper and also that B cannot be A (and A is Scissors), the only other thing that B can be, is Rock.
  1. Rock
  2. Scissors
  3. Scissors
  4. Rock
  5. C
  6. not C
  7. C
  8. Not Rock
Step Four
The fourth clue states that the NPC's choice in round 5 (C) will beat her choice in round 1. We know that round 1 is Rock, and Paper beats rock. Therefore C must be Paper.
  1. Rock
  2. Scissors
  3. Scissors
  4. Rock
  5. Paper
  6. not Paper
  7. Paper
  8. Not Rock
Step Five
The final clue is I will pick paper less than I pick rock or scissors.

We know the positions of two rocks, two papers and two scissors and there's two mystery spots remaining. A third paper will violate the above clue, so the last two remaining spots must be one rock and one scissors.

Since the seventh clue rules out rock for the eighth round, the only other thing it could be is Scissors. And therefore the sixth must be Rock.

Looking at the list below we only have two papers, but we also have three rocks and three scissors, so that satisfies the eighth clue.
  1. Rock
  2. Scissors
  3. Scissors
  4. Rock
  5. Paper
  6. Rock
  7. Paper
  8. Scissors
Step Six
Now that we know what the NPC will play in each round all that's left to do is create a combination that will beat the NPC's choice on every round.
The Solution
  1. Paper
  2. Rock
  3. Rock
  4. Paper
  5. Scissors
  6. Paper
  7. Scissors
  8. Rock

God I kept inputing my solution forgetting that I was solving for what the NPC was playing, not what I was supposed to play....

Had to check a guide to figure out what I got wrong, and it was just that.

Thanks!

Same as Nico-Kun :D
I just solved the puzzle I was given and forgot it wasn't the solution to winning the game, but rather the solution to the logic puzzle exclusively, which wouldn't result in beating the enemy, but rather having the means to beat the enemy by using the game's rules.

Not only did you give the answer, but a step by step guide of how to get that answer! Good job :).

I feel like an idiot. I kept failing the minigame and came to check this guide...

Turns out I was solving the logic puzzle correctly, but I was picking her choices, meaning I tied every round. :steamfacepalm:

When I first began reading the rules of the mini-game I thought I would have to win eight separate matches. If anyone remembers the Rock Paper Scissors game in Xenogears you can understand my reluctance to playing the game. In Xenogears you only have to win 5 times consecutively but even then it was something that could take a long time to accomplish. Once I realized it was just a logic puzzle I inwardly sighed with relief.

Ahhhh I'm a moron! I solved that but that were tips about what NPC will choose, not me, lol XD

Thank you! Logic based puzzles like this one kills my brain :yo:

Thank you. Silly me was guessing their hand, thus causing all ties.

Its nice to have this around! I enjoyed it the first time, but I wouldn't want to refigure it out in future playthroughs.
