For my loadout to work, it was all about two crucial things.
The first one being timing: ensure that the enemy squad is fully exposed and opening fire, and to trigger my AoE just before they would destroy my or my allies' shields. The later I hold off on triggering the AoE to that moment, the better the chance of the enemy squad never surviving to return fire.
So I bring juggernauts with me, scare the enemy at the last second to prevent a lot of health loss, and use assault rifles for solid damage at short-to-medium range.
This isn't the optimal early-game build though. Scaring them doesn't last as long early on, everybody's guns are much weaker than their health and shields, your max-health regeneration isn't as strong, and there really just isn't as much damage to prevent or deal.
Problem with recruiting other robots is having to jump back to a base to get them and slowboat (sprint) all the way back out to the next way point.
