Hardware
Alright so you will need the Steel Battalion controller to get it to work. You can easily buy one for around 300 dollars.
After that you will need a breakaway to xbox adapter cord. Not 360 but the original xbox because this controller is for the original xbox. You will also need the xbox controller to usb cable adapter. *Note it needs to be 3 ft or it has a 87% chance of not working due to compatibility issues.
When you get both of these you should be able to connect your SB controller to your computer. There is a xbox 360 breakaway cable but it uses a different connector, so it won't work.
Software
To get this to work you need to be able to run windows programs. This works with windows 7 and up, probably with wine or whatever weird things Macs use. Also you will need your computer to be 64 bit. I acually have no clue if it will work with 32 bit but better be safe than sorry.

Now that we got the propietary stuff out of the way lets get to the drivers n' such. First get this little program[sourceforge.net] after you get that get this other little program[sourceforge.net]. Make sure to get the latest. Another good thing to note is to not have something like ppjoy or xboxce installed as it might screw with the drivers.
Putting it all togather
OK! So first plug in your controller by using the usb to xbox, then xbox to breakaway, then breakaway to controller. Your computer (if it was windows) might try to find drivers for that. Unless your computer is magic it won't find anything. Now install the steel-battallion-64 using the installer. Let it install all the stuff required to make it run then when its complete open the simple.cs file with your favorite text editor, then with all your might change the int vJoyButtons = 8 to 39 as per what it says in the cs file. Also unless you want the trigger button to type the letter A for no reason find
controller.AddButtonKeyLightMapping(ButtonEnum.CockpitHatch, true, 3, SBC.Key.A, true);//last true means if you hold down the button, //no longer using Microsoft.DirectX.DirectInput but included this in here to show that I made //code backwards compatible controller.AddButtonKeyLightMapping(ButtonEnum.FunctionF1, true, 3, Microsoft.DirectX.DirectInput.Key.BackSpace, true); controller.AddButtonKeyMapping(ButtonEnum.RightJoyMainWeapon, SBC.Key.C, true);

Then either delete it all or add // before every line to mark it as not to be included in the code.

Unplug your controller and replug it back in; If everything went fine it should detect the controller as a device. Now launch the exe file in the SBC folder and in the program click file and open the simple.cs file. When thats done search vJoy in the search bar and click the configure vjoy. Change the number of buttons to 39 and click apply. Finally go back to the SBC program and click start and your SB controller should flash symbolizing that its connected.

Congrats you can now play almost any game but War Thunder!

But wait this is a War Thudner guide isn't it? Remember that vJoy stuff you downloaded before? Well unplug the controller and turn off the SBC and vJoy config. Then install the vJoy that was downloaded seperatly. It will uninstall the other version and replace it. You might want to restart your comptuer at this point to let your PC configure the drivers and whatnot. When your ready, launch the SBC program and it will nag at your about an incorrect version, ignore that and start it normally. If everything went right then it should flash again and work with War Thunder.
Conclusion
This is how I got the controller to work with my machine and since almost everyones computer is slightly diffrent theres always a chance that something wont work. Now you can ask me and I might be able to help but I cant gaurentee anything.

If there is any mispellings or grammical errors just point it out in the comments, if you can confirm some things or need clarifications put it in the comments and ill try my best to reword the stuff.

Any other issues leave in the comments.

As for now.
Good hunting, Stalker.
