Overview
Learn Japanese to Survive - Katakana War

In this guide, I won’t be giving you all of the the Katakana-Romaji translations. This would defeat the point in playing to learn! I will be explaining how to 100% the steam achievements and overall go through the game with success.
1. Lesson Achievements
---------------Lesson Achievements---------------

I'd Like To Buy A Vowel
You will automatically receive this achievement after finishing the first lesson, which will go over the first 5 katakana - ア through オ. These are the staples to the game, so understand your vowels for success.

Lessons Cleared: 2/10
As simple as the first, complete lesson 2, which covers カ -コ and ガ - ゴ. This is the first lesson in which you learn 10 katakana instead of 5.

Lessons Cleared: 3/10
Lesson 3 will cover サ-ソ and ザ-ゾ.

Lessons Cleared: 4/10
Lesson 4 will cover タ-ト and ダ-ド.

Lessons Cleared: 5/10
Lesson 5 will cover ナ-ノ. Only 5 katakana this time!

Lessons Cleared: 6/10
Lesson 6 will cover ハ-ホ and バ-ボ AND パ-ポ. Whopping 15 this time!

Lessons Cleared: 7/10
Lesson 7 will cover マ- モ. 5 to make up for the 15 you just had to learn.

Lessons Cleared: 8/10
Lesson 8 will cover ラ- ロ.

Lessons Cleared: 9/10
Lesson 9 will cover three katakana: ヤ , ユ , ヨ.

Final Lesson Cleared
Lesson 10 will cover three katakana: ワ , ヲ , ン.
2. Side Quest Achievements
---------------Side Quest Achievements---------------

There are a total of 20 side quests in this game. Side quests are marked by two orange exclamation points above an npc’s head. These npcs are found around the town and aren’t any characters you can take with you. Often you will learn some hiragana and japanese words in either katakana, kanji, or hiragana as a reward for finishing their side quest. They often will teach you vocabulary and test you like Daisuke does during your katakana lessons. Sometimes they will have you fetch items for them. These are found in the cities. You CAN come back to these after the game is completed if you couldn't finish them before the final boss.

Trying New Things
Complete one side quest. It can be any, just complete one.

Branching Out
Like the last achievement, just finish any 5 side quests.

Bored No More
Complete 10 side quests. Halfway done!

People Pleaser
Complete 15 side quests. Almost there!

Professional Part-Timer
Complete all 20 side quests in the game.
3. Relationship Achievements
---------------Relationship Achievements---------------

Party members in this game will grow to like you the more you use them in battle and take them along. For frame of reference, by lesson four, my main party were all at over 300 affection, while my side 3 were at 100. This may take a little grinding, but they will very quickly grow to like you. At 100, 300, and 500 affection, the party members will take you on an outing. The activity varies per character, but every outing will require one answer for you. They’re pretty straightforward in what to say. Just equally match their excitement about the subject matter (ie, say you’re into Sci-Fi too with your first outing with Daisuke, or that you love to cook and eat with your first outing with Andrea). At each outing, if you answer correctly, they will gain a bonus 20 affection. Each outing will also end with a major bonus to their stats. When you reach 500 affection, you can enter a party member’s apartment, they get an even bigger stat bonus, and they will gain the ability to use a special spell in battle.

Together Forever
Get any character to 500 affection.

Unbreakable Bonds
Get every character to 500 affection.
3. Other Achievements
---------------Other Achievements---------------

Some of these are odd, but are very obtainable. I will explain these all one by one.

Sword In The Stone
For this, you need to get the ultimate sword. You get this from a very specific side quest in Fukouka. #20 is by the shop in the upper left corner of the city. This requires you to kill a monster back at the school in Osaka.

Connoisseur
Next to the grocery in Osaka (where Tia stands) is a cart with a red top. Talk to the man at the stand. You need to have at least 150 yen to purchase something from him. All together, all three seafood will cost you 350 yen. You will instantly eat them and your party will be fully revived. Purchase each one once, for a total of three seafood, and one achievement.

Corn Soup IV: A New Cob
All you have to do purchase a Corn Soup. You can get these from the vending machines behind the grocery/to the right of Andrea. One corn soup costs 150 yen.

Time To Power Up!
You need to unlock the power of the Crystarium/Crystalline. This is the purple crystal next to Daisuke in front of the school. Here, you will use Crystal Shards and Bonus Points for bonus stat boosters. 10 bonus points = 1 level up for the entire party. Crystal Shards will be either 10 or 5 for their redemption price. You can easily get these from battle drops or by doing side quests.

A New Challenge Awaits
Around lesson 4, the Challenge Castle (CC) will open up. It will be located to the right of Daisuke. Talk to the woman and agree to attempt the CC. The CC is a one room corridor that never ends. Inside, there is a crystal that will heal all party members to full HP and MP. There will be Okabe floating around in the form of “?”. They will be blue, and are very powerful, each hit taking any character to 1 HP regardless of their stats. On the flip side, everything will die with one hit. These monsters gain give no yen and no exp. To get the achievement, simply agree to go to the CC with the woman and walk into the Castle itself. The achievement will be received.

The True Hero
Complete the game. Congrats!

I thank you so much for the information. I had all besides the connoisseur achievement and in order cities I tried interacting with food carts by chance but nothing happened so it didn't cross my mind that the one in the first city was intractable. For some reason I only had to try two sea foods tho I didn't interact with the cart before I think. Meh maybe bad memory.

For the Connoisseuer achievement, the minimum cost of the food is actually 120 yen, that's how much the sushi costs. The Sashimi costs 150 yen and the Takoyaki costs 180 yen. Altogether, that's 450 yen (180+120=300+150=450).

@RynZi, I'm not sure about the first and third game, since I only played through the entirety of this game, but it took me around 6 or so hours to finish the game, but I also went slowly as to practice, since I was taking a college Japanese course at the time. It's one of those that is best at your own speed, since it's an educational game. But if you just want the story, probably around a couple of hours.

It'd be nice to get info where to get all those quests 'cause I finished the game (I mean all that learning) but found only 9 quests out of 20. :ooh: Am I blind?!

That worked! Thanks!

You should be able to. I have free roam of the game after finishing the final boss. Try fighting the boss again and then saving once the game starts back up.
