In The Tenth Line, there are four basic stats that simplify combat gameplay. These are Hit Points, Skill Points, Offense, and Defense, which determine survivibility and vicotry. Obviously, this simple system has a twist to it, the characters do not gain any stat increase at a level up. So instead they gain a power level which is used to place a rune on a pipe mania like grid, called Power Flow.

The runes are actually items that you will find, buy from Spend Gildeds, and collect from battles. Bread loaf, rotting skin, golden feather, and recthberries, just to name a few of the items you will encounter. These items have important details like shape and weight, however, the real detail for this guide is circled on the image provided Using Skyborn Water.
As you can see, that is the rune I spoke of. Also you can see that the rune has a path, unfortunately, that is not the focus. However, you will encounter four types of pathes, lines, L paths, T paths, and cross paths. The paths the runes have will force you to think in different ways just to place the next rune. Each rune is a green leaf (Hit Points), a yellow eight-pointed star (Skill Points), a red sword (Offense), or a blue shield (Defense).

There is something else you need to note in the image, that Skyborn Water when used as a rune gives +1 DEF when placed in the Power Flow Board. So, does that mean you can only gain 1 Def Stat? Nope, unless you place it on a space meant for either Hit Points, Skill Points, or Offense. Place it on space for Defense and you gain double of any increase possible. It is the same for any rune, and the tutorial does mentions that fact.

Each of the characters will have a different maxed level, due to the quirk of the Power Flow Board. However, that does not change the final stats for each increase value.
