Intro
I have play both TF2 and SK for a while now seen how both economy act and know how both trading system works. Seeing in the discussion trading forum and in-game I can easily say that TF2 key are worth 150,000 to 160,000 crowns in SK. This will all be basic guide between prices with simple calculation that I done so people can trade faster and better and don't need to do the calculation themselves. With this information between key to crowns alone we can see how item in one game can be traded equally between another game with little argument over what cost what and have the doubt that you make a good trade or not. As of right now keys are 25.77 or 252 scrap as stated by http://backpack.tf/stats/Unique/Mann%20Co.%20Supply%20Crate%20Key/Tradable/Craftable/0 (3/21/17 3 A.M PST)

So, if we get the 160,000 crowns for high-end price,150,000 crowns for the low-end price and put it over the amount of scrap it cost to buy a key we will have: 160,000/252 ~ 150,000/252 (crown per scrap). This will come out to roughly 690~647 crowns per scrap. Also in-game, we know 100 energy in the in-game is traded in the market which usually hangs around 10,000 crowns. It might go up or down 500 crowns but for simplicity it will be 10,000 crowns; So, 10,000/100 (energy/crowns) equals 1 energy per every 100 crowns. This mean that price conversion should look like this in "List 1”.*
List 1 - Metal to Crowns to Energy
List 1 - Metal to crowns to energy
  • 6 ~ 7 energy = 647 ~ 690 crowns = 1 scrap
  • 19 ~ 21 energy = 1,939 ~ 2,070 crowns = 1 reclaimed
  • 58 ~ 62 energy = 5,823 ~ 6,210 crowns = 1 refined
  • 71 ~ 76 energy = 7,117 ~ 7,590 crowns = 1 craft hat
  • 1500 ~ 1600 energy = 150,000 ~ 160,000 crowns = 1 key

Note: Tf2 key prices are like any other economic currency and price will either inflate or deflate naturally or artificially. With that said the small changes like a scrap less or more would cause a minor change that about +/- 3 crowns however large changes do have an exponential change. An example is if keys go up from 25.77 to 28.66 would be a 58 crowns decrease making 1 scrap = to 632 ~ 589.
Orbs to Metal
Orbs going off the auction house (range pricing) or the supply depot (fixed priced) is way different as they are also changing. An example right now is that someone selling a 2-star orb for 2,499 but supply depot 3 for 50 energy (5,000 crowns if you trade with someone but market you can only trade for 100 at a time) So in "List 2" I will put supply depot prices to TF2 metal and "List 3" I will put auction house player prices to TF2 metal. (Personally, I would trade metal for energy and buy it at the supply depot.)
List 2 - Supply Depot Orb to Metal Prices
List 2 - Supply depot orb to metal prices
  • ~3.33 energy**(10) = 1-star orb = one tf2 weapon (in total 3 weapons)
  • ~16.67 energy**(50) = 2-star orb = ~2 scrap and a weapon to 1 reclaimed (in total 7 scraps and one weapons to 1 refined)
  • ~66.67 energy** (200) = 3-star orb = ~1 refined (in total 3 refined)
  • ~133.33 energy** (400) = 4-star orb = ~2 refined (in total 6 refined)
  • ~266.67 energy** (800) = 5-star orb = ~4 refined (in total 12 refined)

**Note: You must buy 3 at a time. You are also trading with the actual game so you much pay in energy which means you must trade with someone to get the energy; this is just to show you an estimate you need to trade to get the energy to buy. An example is if you want to buy 4-star orbs you should have at least 6 refined or more to trade.
List 3 - Using Metal to Buy at Action House
List 3 - Buying at Action House
  • N/A crowns**** = 1-star orb = N/A
  • 2,500 ~ 3,000 crowns*** = 2-star orb = ~3 scrap one weapon to 4 scraps one weapon
  • 8,000 ~ 8,200 crowns*** = 3-star orb = ~11 scraps one weapon to 12 scraps one weapon
  • 15,000 ~ 18,000 crowns*** = 4-star orb = ~2 refined and one reclaimed to 3 refined
  • 27,000 ~ 33,000 crowns*** = 5-star orb = ~4 refined and one reclaimed to 5 refined and two reclaimed

***Note: You are buying with crowns this time from other player through either bidding or buying it at set price; prices change by how much players want to sell the item just think of it as selling and quickselling. Prices are an in a range estimate of what I seen from time to time. You are buying either one at a time or more depending on how many they put in that listing.

****Note: Most of the time I don't see 1 star orbs for sale mostly because no one wants them and they aren't profitable to sell
My Two Cents
Remember that this is just from my point of view as traders set the market so these prices can change, just like I said about the key prices. The main thing to remember is to check what cost what and compare it to what you know. Also remember these are not official prices no one anywhere said that keys are 150,000 to 160,000 but the trader, the market the buyer and seller make trades at that price and a lot of people will accept that price.
Update prices
List 4 - Metal to crowns to energy updated with current price
  • ~6 energy = 577 ~ 615 crowns = 1 scrap
  • 17 ~ 19 energy = 1,731 ~ 1,845 crowns = 1 reclaimed
  • 52 ~ 55 energy = 5,193 ~ 5,535 crowns = 1 refined
  • 69 ~ 74 energy = 6,924 ~ 7,380 crowns = 1 craft hat
  • 1500 ~ 1600 energy = 150,000 ~ 160,000 crowns = 1 key

Note: This is updated as of 6/11/17 I will update this from time to time for a while but if the prices are wrong then to get the current price. You need the current price of TF2 keys which is now 28.88. Then you multiply by 9 for every 1 ref (1.00) and add every .11 so it is [ (9*28)+8 ] which equals 260 scrap. This you divide the cost of the crowns with the cost of the key to get cost of one scrap in crowns which will be 150,000/260 or 577 crowns per scrap.

To craft hat it is 3 ref but to sell them it is around 1.33 (I am talking about a random basic hat not a spical one that you have to pay 4 ref for) since we are talking about trading we are taking trading prices

a craft hat requires 3 refined why does it cost less? it should be triple the price ATLEAST to a refined

@Aaronix basically it is all trading risk. Mostly everyone trades with TF2 items and CS:GO items no one trade that much with spiral knights so it more of a risk factor of who can I actally sell it to. Like today, going off steam stats, CS:GO has 570,000 ish players that play today and TF2 has around 67,000 players today but Spiral Knights has around 800 player playing on steam you are more likely able to sell a key in CS:GO or TF2 rather than energy in Spiral Knights since the risk of trading is way higher in SK like finding someone to trade or less people play the game the price of the energy goes down compare to keys. Most likely if you got a key you going to use it sell it, for money, trade it for items or games but energ you can use it or trade it not that much people would accept it as a good payment for games or other items.

@Aarnix
Who knows why?

Why would $5 worth of energy be equal to a $2 key?
