(Vanilla) Next-Gen Compact Suspension
By Slick McFlick
You may remember my previous guide for realistic independent suspension. Well, I've gone a step further and shrunk it by several blocks in height and width! This new and improved design may prove more useful for creations within the bounding box (even though my original design fit as well). It's vaguelly weaker than the original design I made, but easier to quickly make and reproduce.

The Purpose
So, why am I motivated to waste time on this subject?
Well, to begin with, I have no life. That helps. However, I've always been interested in mechanics. How do things function the way they do? And ever since I've seen Besiege, I've always wondered the limits of this simple game. Now I created about a year ago a post about how to create a form of independent suspension.
(You can look at there here)
This suspension was good and certainly did it's job. However, as you may be able to tell from the image to the right, it was rather large, and though it was compactable further by a certain ammount it still was only about a block distance from the border.

And so, after randomly creating this design in creative when I was bored after a long year of hard work, I have created a new and improved design.
How to Complete
STEP 1:
Basic Structure

Simple, basic starter structure needed. Second image is reference, do not build these extra blocks.

STEP 2:
Little Tid-Bits

The joints are required as to not cause the pieces to break, and to allow the wheelbase to go up and down. The suspension is obviously to return the wheelbase to the ground. The spring should be set to 3.

STEP 3:
Finalizing

Adding the necessary braces and the wheels. Braces are to move, wheels to move. There is a small wheel on the inside for turning and large wheels for movement.

STEP 3:
Repeating and Enjoying

Now just duplicate these segments with a minimum two blocks distance from one another and boom, you've got a functioning vehicle (so long you connect these segments.) Have fun with your designs, and put what you do with them in the comments! Give me ideas as well :)

ive made something quite similar to this, but unfortunately you have beat me at my own game, mine is bigger, and it has not been shared. perhaps make a 4 link suspension system next?

Nah, not really. I gave up trying to fit small mechanisms into huge parts lol

sorry to revive the dead thread again, but have you made improvements since?

I have several suspension designs I have not yet published if anyone is interested in seeing them. As well as, Slick McFlick, if you'd like to discuss designs I would be more than happy to.

I see you asking about steering with independent suspension, i've done it before (with considerable effort) but it works fine. If you wanna talk more about it I've got my discord in my bio

Compared to what? This is vanilla. The first picture is the old version, the last picture is the new version. You can see why I call this "compact"; it fits in the vanilla building square, where the first doesn't.

It's not compact, it's enormous

Ackermann steering would be pretty dang hard with this design, but if you want to hit me up and we can try some designs
