What is a Rental Card?
A Rental Card is the card you get to "rent" from another player to be your 5th card during battle in most of the single player sections of the game. (The only exception to this is the Chaos Vortex)

Simple enough, right? Well, there's a bit more to it than that. The other players aren't lending them out for no reason. Every time you or any other player selects that card, the player to whom that card belongs will receive Friend Tickets the next time they log in. They can then use these tickets to get cactaur cards that they can use to boost their ability cards.

Choosing your Rental Card
Knowing this, you will want to select a good card to lend out so that you can rake in those tickets yourself. First, to change the card you're lending out, you'll need to go to the profile screen. This is found in the red tab marked "Social".

Once here, you'll find that you can change your name, write some kind of goofy quote, choose Echo's outfit and most importantly, select your Rental Card.

Now, the obvious thing to do would be to simply select your strongest card. But that may not necessarily be the best choice. What's strong for you might be completely useless to someone else. So how do you choose?

There are several things you need to pay attention to when selecting your Rental Card that will help you find out which one is the most useful for the most amount of people.

You'll want to pay attention to:
  • Availability
  • Type
  • Element
  • Ability Level
  • Extra-Skills

It's also important to note that the experience level of the card itself has no effect on other players at all, so it doesn't matter. Whether its skillseeds are all unlocked also does not matter.
Availability

Think about the kind of cards that you normally pick yourself when going on a run. Would you pick a card that you already have in your own deck? Of course not! So why would anyone else?

Don't choose a card that you know everyone else most likely already has. Cards that are readily available in the Ability Card shop are normally poor choices for this reason. There is an exception to this, but we'll get to that later.

The best kind of cards to select are ones that are limited edition. These are the kind of cards that only appear during certain events; ones that people can't get anymore. People become more likely to choose your card simply because they haven't seen it before and want to know what it does. Not to mention the fact that such cards are usually much more powerful.
Type

Next is the type of card. Currently, there are 4 types: Warrior, Mage, Ranger and Healer. Picking any of the first three means that you're cutting out 2/3rds of the players in the game as likely targets for your card. Sure, other jobs can use them anyway, but it won't be as powerful as it would be for those who are actually in that job type. However, it's possible that your attack card really is just that amazing and people are going to want to use it anyway. It's your call.

But anyone can use healer cards. Healer cards are the exception I mentioned earlier. Since anyone can use them, they're a solid choice for your Rental Card. But, certain jobs will want certain support effects. Jobs with high damage capability might want a card that grants the Faith effect. Or perhaps they want Wall to cover their squishy butts. But just about everyone and their dog likes the Haste effect.
Element

This will not remain true for long, but in the current version of the game, you need to pay attention to what element the card is. The reason for this is that currently only 4 out of 23 jobs have access to the Light and Dark elements. (The starter jobs don't count, because they suck)

For now, if you're going to choose an attack card, make sure it's Fire, Water, Wind or Earth. Light and Dark just have too few jobs that can use them right now. You're only gimping yourself if you put one of these up for rental.
Ability Level
When you choose your card, you're going to want its ability level maxed out, if possible. At each augmentation, their max ability level increases, so cards with more stars are better as well.

For reference, here's a chart for the max ability levels of 3 to 5 star cards.

Type
3*
4*
5*
Attack
Lv. 6
Lv. 8
Lv. 10
Healer
Lv. 4
Lv. 5
Lv. 6
Extra-Skills
Just having a high ability level isn't enough. You also want as many of the extra-skills unlocked as possible too. These make a massive difference in the usability of the card. For attack cards, people will always choose cards that have Damage Limit Break unlocked over ones that do not.

To unlock an extra skill, all you need to do is make sure it's ability level is high enough for that skill, then just keep using it in battle and it will randomly unlock on it's own eventually.
Am I doin' it right?
One final thing is to pay attention to trends. You'll likely see plenty of cards up for rent as you play the game, so go and see what's popular. Do you jump on the bandwagon and put up the same card yourself? Or perhaps you'll dare to be different and put something else up? The game will tell you whether or not your card is popular.

You can go into the Social menu and find the "Followers" option. This will give you a list of all the players that have selected to have your card show up for them more often. If you've got plenty of these, then you've chosen well.

Nice start. Make sure to add in that certain healer cards are better than others. I have Knights of the Round (KotR) which rolls Brave, Faith and Break into one card. Pretty much guarantees me 10 tickets per day. Also, mention Supreme Cards. If you manage to get an Aerith, you're golden and everyone and their granmother's cat will love you.
