All unique engines give +40% efficiency and speed (except for the Carnivore Heart) as well as a special way to burn items for fuel.
  • A unique engine can be acquired by completing the Museum of Unnatural Curiosity in any fashion.
  • A unique engine can be acquired by completing a quest for the Oddwinter Intrusion.

The Sanctioned Deities, and their favor
If you happen to know what another deity's favor does, please comment the effect/reward and how (fastest is preferable) to gain scrutiny :)

Abjah: Adds 10 Insight, or allows you to "store" a Hideous Revelation and a Mind-Shattering Disruption as a favor, eliminating the need to carry these with you and freeing up your sanity. However, this comes at a rather large cost in drugs and other materials. Scrutiny can be acquired easiest by looking down wells and drinking Bottled Darkness.

Morbazar: Adds 10 Guile, or can be invoked to grant a Fetch-mirror, a Key, and a Perplexing Riddle. Scrutiny can be obtained in encounters concerning fate, as well as partaking of the feast when selling information in Ghoulwatch.

Nahash: Adds 10 Esoterica or 5 Terrible Secrets and 40 Apprehensions. Scrutiny can be obtained by assisting Nahash priests, and deciphering Indecipherable Tomes.

Cobblestone: Adds 10 Graft. Scrutiny is easiest acquired by smashing Bizarre Effigies, and performing other acts that benefit the Sanctioned Gods.

Graveddon: Adds 10 Grit. Scrutiny can be acquired by winning in the Penitent's Bluff Arena, assisting Graveddon priests, and general hyper-violence.

Scorthidion: Adds 10 Guts(unconfirmed). Avoid actions against the Goatmen and the occult if Reproach is starting to become a problem for you.

Wyl o' Pan: Adds 10 Spirit(unconfirmed). Scrutiny can be earned by aiding the mycenae revolution.

Anglecrab: Adds 10 Vigilance, or ask for artifacts in the form of Undreamt Treasures, Oscillating Prisms, and Occult Relics. Particular encounters behind a few Doors will earn you Scrutiny (particularly, at the Fractal Fortress and settlements in the Stormlands/Maelstrom), as well as attacking the Noddy Doctors.

Old Lady Death: Don't let the grey congregation turn against you.
Miscellaneous surmises
  • Do not go South too quickly.
  • Do not neglect Insight, it becomes very valuable later in your travels.
  • Sniping the enemy vehicle's captain will not win the battle. In contrast, getting yourself killed on your vessel will cause you to lose the game.
  • Learn which encounters have no penalty for failure.
  • 5 clues are needed to take a guess at the City of Glass' location. Clues that give direct hints to it's whereabouts are especially important.
  • A Hideous Revelation or Mind-Shattering Disruption in your Information inventory will limit your overall sanity.
  • If you lose all your sanity, the only way to regain any amount is to holiday in your City of Keys lodgings.
  • Kinetopede armor does not completely block crew damage. Even if your vehicle can take a few hits, a low Guts stat can make combat frustrating.
  • The 35mm Mortars are extremely effective for relatively low cost. Strongly encourage investing in these.
  • Upper-deck officers will become increasingly wounded until their eventual death unless you switch them out for someone else at one of the Seven Cities.
A potential workaround is to initiate combat with a weak target, incapacitate their cannons, and then have your wounded officer(s) stand by your medic for a few turns.

Can I only upgrade the legs one Mark at a time or can I go from the starting legs straight to the mentioned Mark V? (I haven't found Icicle Spine yet so maybe it would still be worthwhile to get interim legs?)

Will all 3 mentioned unique engines let me burn (the same kind of?) cargo items for fuel?
Can an engine that you can buy somewhere do this too or only the ones from storylines? And do they have other differences?
(I keep getting Deactivated Golems and having to throw them out because my cargo is always full... - and I already bought another boxcar so I'm at 100 :FallFlat: )

Mark VI "Skedaddlers" kinetopede legs are available in the City of Keys. I don't remember the price or how they became available to me. Adds +60% speed.

Are you going to keep this guide like this? I was planning on making a more... "advanced" guide, if you will, about the more obscureish achievements such as Reunion and Death's Justicar and whatnot.

Carnivore Heart can also be obtained through Ransak's storyline, by choosing to free Dredger from the Panomnicon and asking for an engine . Not sure how this interacts with Lucetta's storyline.

More sources of scabmatter for the armor. It can be randomly found and smuggled out of the archaeological digs in Eld Abrathat, though this gives Scorthidion's Reproach each time; it's also the reward for winning at hide and seek (either side) in Latch with no penalty attached.

Updated the info. Apologies for the lack of attention I've been giving recently.

You can gain Anglecrab's scrutiny by attacking the Noddy-Doctors, although this may upset your crew, since it counts as banditry. And it's dangerous as hell, since -- at least on Bad Idea difficulty -- they're armed with 3 or 4 Dessication Curse-Engines, so you're likely to take a lot of crew damage.

You can gain a little bit of Scrutiny with Scorthidion -- I have some, though I don't remember from where.

(I know you can get a little Scrutiny with all of the gods except Old Lady Death in Ransack's storyline, by releasing the princess and then killing Dredger with your pocket-knife.)
Optimatum 17 Feb, 2017 @ 10:50pm
The last engine is The Carnivore Heart from one ending to Lucetta Quetzl's questline. It has +50% speed and fuel efficiently and allows burning "flesh". (Finally, a way to get rid of those Sleepless Wretches!)
Optimatum 16 Feb, 2017 @ 9:57pm
Nahash gives 10 Esoterica or 5 Terrible Secrets and 40 Apprehensions.
