Guys, what if we DIDN'T reroll the healer?

Introduction
Assault is certainly a unique game mode. It's constant 5v5 teamfighting as you push and pull down a single lane while being unable to return to base without dying. Because Smite is balanced around Conquest instead of Assault, some gods will naturally be a better fit for Assault than others. After seeing somebody named something like xXxJuan420xXx reroll Ra, I became motivated to list my thoughts on the various gods.

Why does this list even exist if you are given a random god? Two reasons: rerolling and Match of the Day. For a small fee of favor or gems if you're stupid, you can exchange your god for another. Additionally, there are many times where the MOTD will be Assault, but you are allowed to pick your god. Hopefully by writing this guide I can experience fewer people making stupid decisions in Assault, whether they are on the enemy side or on my team.

Each god will be covered in full, and will be judged based on Mobility, Poke, Sustain, Teamfight, and Waveclear.

Mobility
How quickly the god can get to the frontline or run away when the going gets tough. Of the five cateogories, this is probably the least important since it is not always relevant. The best gods can deny kills by tower diving when low on health.
Poke
The range of a god's attacks. Great for getting an enemy who is low health and hiding in the back.
Sustain
How brittle or durable a god is. Dying might allow you to buy items, but it has many negative effects as well.
Teamfight
How contributive a god is to a teamfight. Crowd control, healing, the like.
Waveclear
How effective a god is at clearing the wave. Not important when coupled with gods who have solid waveclear, but the single best gods can defend a tower by themselves or provide ample pressure while on the offensive.

F- means they are the single worst god in this regard, and S means the opposite.

There will also be additional notes if needed. There are eight tiers based on how you should proceed, from S to G. Further details will be in each section.

One final assumption: all gods are played to their fullest potential. A Hel that spends more time in Dark will certainly be unhelpful, but that's ignored for the sake of this list.
S: Ultimate
The best of the best. If you reroll these gods, you deserve to be fired into the sun. Additionally, you can use these gods as bargaining chips. If someone has a god you want to play, and you have one of these, you could theoretically threaten to reroll. But you wouldn't do that, would you?

Ra

Ra is undoubtedly the single best assault god. His passive can let him get back in the fight quicker. He has awesome waveclear and poke. His ult does tons of damage, has low cooldowns, and is almost guaranteed to hit one enemy out of the fives cramped in the lane. His 2 can help in teamfights by slowing enemies down and blinding them, or at least making them face a certain direction. Best of all, he can heal and heal relatively well, plus with season 4 grant protections. The fact that someone rerolled him motivated me to finally make this guide.

Mobility: B-
Poke: A-
Sustain: A-
Teamfight: A
Waveclear: A
Notes: Healer

Hel

Does Hel really need an explanation? She is one of the few gods who can cleanse others, making them CC immune. She's also a healing machine, and Dark Hel isn't too bad either, providing waveclear and reducing enemy protections.

Mobility: C
Poke: C-
Sustain: B+
Teamfight: A+
Waveclear: B
Notes: Healer, Cleanser

Terra

Terra has good CC, decent range, and a spectacular ult.

Mobility: B-
Poke: B
Sustain: A+
Teamfight: S
Waveclear: D+
Notes: Healer

Sylvanus

Not as good as Terra, as a massive buff is better than a knockup, but Sylvanus still delivers.

Mobility: D-
Poke: B
Sustain: A+
Teamfight: A
Waveclear: C
Notes: Healer

Guan Yu

The only physical healer in Smite, Guan Yu also can remove opponent's protections and stun in a massive Area of Effect ultimate.

Mobility: B+
Poke: D
Sustain: A-
Teamfight: A+
Waveclear: D+
Notes: Healer

Chang'e

Half of Chang'e's passive is unsuable in Assault, which is disappointing. Were she able to make purchases without having to die; she would probably top Terra. Her heal is relatively weak, but she also has antiheal, built in CC immunity and invulnerability, and her ult when played just right can be the difference between defeat and victory.

Mobility: B+
Poke: B+
Sustain: A-
Teamfight: A-
Waveclear: C
Notes: Healer, CC Immunity, Invulnerability, Anti-Heal

Aphrodite

The Goddess of Beauty can only heal one person at a time, but heals that person rather well. She also has a reliable combo and a great ultimate.

Mobility: C+
Poke: B+
Sustain: A-
Teamfight: B+
Waveclear: A-
Notes: Healer, CC Immunity, Invulnerability

Cupid

The most powerful non-healer for Assault, although calling him that may be cheating. Cupid is a Quasi-healer; he has the ability to heal teammates without being registered by the game as a healer. In a way, quasi-healers are better than healers: if your team gets a healer, your opponents are also promised one, but the same is not true for quasi-healers. Cupid is the best quasi-healer, with the most effective and reliable method of healing. He also has an AoE ultimate that can work as area denial, a dash that boosts his attack speed and teammates' movement speeds, and a heart bomb than can stun. His only real downside is it might be hard to get his passive up when there is only one wave of minions at a time.
Mobility: B
Poke: B+
Sustain: A-
Teamfight: A-
Waveclear: B
Notes: Quasi-Healer

Chiron

I'm convinced Chiron was designed with Assault in mind. Just check his notes. His dash can push enemies into the tower if the enemies are foolish enough to get close.

Mobility: B-
Poke: A
Sustain: B+
Teamfight: B+
Waveclear: B-
Notes: Quasi-Healer, Penetration, CC Immune, Revive (Self), Cleanser

Ah Muzen Cab

Ah Muzen Cab is overpowered in every mode except Conquest. Add in that Assault is his best mode on top of that, and you have a monster. He has two methods of waveclear, his hives allow him quick transportation from the fountain and heals him, and his ultimate when used correctly has minimal cooldown.

Mobility: C+
Poke: B
Sustain: A-
Teamfight: B
Waveclear: S
A: Excellent
As most S rank gods cannot be rolled into, you really should keep these gods.

Geb

Geb's bread and butter is his shield. If an enemy is about to do massive CC or damage, the shield is a giant middle finger to their plans. His passive is also strong if the opponent thinks about using crits, and can deter them from building it. Ult and mobility are also strong.

Mobility: A-
Poke: D+
Sustain: A
Teamfight: A-
Waveclear: D

Ares

Ares' ult all but requires your opponents to obtain beads, removing them from obtaining another relic such as meditation. He also provides his teams with protections and can cripple enemies.

Mobility: D+
Poke: B
Sustain: A-
Teamfight: A
Waveclear: F+
Notes: Relic Claimer

Hercules

If he lands his combo, he will push enemies into his teammates or towers, serving them up on a silver platter. He doesn't exactly require his opponents to grab beads, as his combo isn't as easy to land as Ares' ult, but it still adds greatly to any teamfight. He can also heal himself.

Mobility: B
Poke: B+
Sustain: A-
Teamfight: A-
Waveclear: C

Hades

I'm not exactly sure of the logic behind his quasi-healing, the screams of his opponents heal teammates, but it works! His ultimate makes him a sitting duck, but helps lead team fights, and his 2 can make opponents feared. Because of both of these aspects, I deem Hades to be a relic claimer.

Mobility: B
Poke: B
Sustain: B
Teamfight: A
Waveclear: B+
Notes: Quasi-Healer, Relic Claimer

Isis

Her Dispel Magic is somewhat overrated, but do you know what isn't? Her Circle of Protection. It can be used to put pressure when defending or attacking towers, can heal teammates, and packs a punch if it hits any enemies. She also can stun with her Spirit Ball, which is likely considering how cramped the lane is, and can waveclear on her own. Also, her passive helps heal and grant mana.

Mobility: B
Poke: B+
Sustain: B
Teamfight: A-
Waveclear: A-
Notes: Quasi-Healer

Athena

REINFORCEMENTS ON THE WAY!

Mobility: A
Poke: B-
Sustain: A-
Teamfight: A-
Waveclear: C

Ymir

Ymir can be built as both a tank and a magical warrior, providing utility, a much needed asset in Assault. He can also stun, slow, and build walls, assuming he does the last one correctly and does not impede teammates.

Mobility: D+
Poke: B
Sustain: A-
Teamfight: A-
Waveclear: A-

Tyr
Similar to Hercules, but he has to get behind his enemies to push them towards his team. His heal is also less reliable, but at least his passive is good.

Mobility: B+
Poke: C+
Sustain: A-
Teamfight: B+
Waveclear: B
Notes: Poor Man's Hercules

Chronos

Chronos has been nerfed pretty hard coming into Season 4, but his strengths still shine in Assault. His combo is easy to land, he can heal himself, can deal strong basic attacks, and can use Rewind to further heal himself, possibly to full health.

Mobility: B-
Poke: B+
Sustain: B+
Teamfight: B+
Waveclear: B
Notes: Tower Smasher

Amaterasu

A very team-based god. Good CC and an aura that can help teammates, but I've found that unless you build her to be brittle, she does not do enough damage on her own.

Mobility: B
Poke: B+
Sustain: B+
Teamfight: B+
Waveclear: A
B: Great
These gods cover all of the basics to one extent or another.

Xing Tian
Passive allows HP, can knock up and root enemies, and his ult requires the enemy team to get beads. Need I say more?

Mobility: B-
Poke: B
Sustain: A-
Teamfight: A
Waveclear: C-
Notes: Relic Claimer

Odin
His ring requires enemies without a leap to get ghostwalk or not be healed. It's easy to land, too. He also has his bird bomb combo.

Mobility: B-
Poke: B-
Sustain: B+
Teamfight: A-
Waveclear: B
Notes: Anti-Healer, Relic Claimer

Chaac
That AoE silence is nothing to mess with. He can also heal himself.

Mobility: B-
Poke: B+
Sustain: A-
Teamfight: A-
Waveclear: B+

Hun Batz
His ult requires beads, and his directed taunt towards Chaac even makes light of that. His passive allows him to crit, and he is quick and nimble when he needs to be.

Mobility: A-
Poke: B+
Sustain: C
Teamfight: A-
Waveclear: B-
Notes: Relic Claimer

Neith
Escape, heal, CC, and a poke that can hit opponents from across the map. Only downside to her ult is that other may take the bullet, so timing and placement is everything.

Mobility: B
Poke: A+
Sustain: B
Teamfight: B+
Waveclear: A

Nu Wa
Nu Wa's ult never misses, taxing opponents of their health. She also has minions to help take tower damage.

Mobility: C-
Poke: S
Sustain: C-
Teamfight: C+
Waveclear: A
Notes: Tower Smasher

Khepri
Not only does his ult make opponents back off or revive teammates, but his grab is phenomenal.

Mobility: B-
Poke: B-
Sustain: A-
Teamfight: A-
Waveclear: C+
Notes: Revive

Thoth
Thoth is a master of range, and can boost the range of the projectiles of his teammates. He can pull a fakie on his ult, exasperating opponents relics and making them move in a less effcient manner. He does require some protection, though.

Mobility: B+
Poke: A-
Sustain: C-
Teamfight: A-
Waveclear: B+

Raijin

Raijin's ult is great in crowded areas, which in Assault is all the time. His cobo also deals a lot of damage, but his movement ability doesn't go far enough and has too long of a cooldown.

Mobility: B-
Poke: A
Sustain: C-
Teamfight: A-
Waveclear: B+

Bellona

An unreliable heal and an interuptable hammer hamper Bellona, but she is fairly mobile and can stun enemies, plus possibly buff teammates if they stay in range of the flag.

Mobility: B
Poke: C-
Sustain: B
Teamfight: B+
Waveclear: B

Apollo

Apollo has been buffed for Season 4, and it helps him well. He can now waveclear well, which was practically his one weakness. His passive allows him to take down towers quickly and engage well in teamfights. He can mezmerize opponents and gain protections in the same move. He's also the most mobile god; his ult allows him to deny deaths and backdoor if needed.

Mobility: S
Poke: C
Sustain: C+
Teamfight: B+
Waveclear: C+
Notes: Revive
C: Good
These gods tend to excel in some ways but have very exploitable weaknesses.

Vulcan

Reliable poke, an ult that reaches far and hurts, and a turret for applying pressure or tanking a tower. Like most mages, Vulcan is not very durable.

Mobility: C
Poke: A
Sustain: C-
Teamfight: B
Waveclear: A+
Notes: Tower Smasher

Zhong Kui

Tanky and can heal. His ult is great for teamfights, can poke. His heal may be unreliable if his team attacks minions, but for this list that is not considered.

Mobility: C-
Poke: B+
Sustain: A-
Teamfight: B+
Waveclear: B+

Janus

He has a reliable combo, and can help minions and teammates move forward. His mobility is limited due to a lack of walls however, and his poke is unreliable as beyond a certain distance it becomes nothing more than aiming in the general direction of the enemy and firing. He also lacks protections moreso than most mages.

Mobility: B
Poke: B+
Sustain: C-
Teamfight: B
Waveclear: B+

Fenrir

Heals, stun, and the best method of pulling avaiable.

Mobility: B-
Poke: C
Sustain: B
Teamfight: B+
Waveclear: C
Notes: Fetch, boy!

Scylla

Good waveclear, a decent escape, and an ult that could theoretically turn the tables on the opponent.

Mobility: C+
Poke: B
Sustain: C
Teamfight: B+
Waveclear: A

Nike

Nike's passive can be really helpful to the team, boosting their mobility by one grade. She also has nice health per second and an ult that grants her a shield and slows enemies.

Mobility: B-
Poke: C+
Sustain: B+
Teamfight: B
Waveclear: C
Notes: Worst jokes in the game

Sol

Can slightly heal based off of a percentage of her missing health. Can become invulernable and CC immune with enough warning time, and can poke very well. Unstable manifestation allows her to take down towers quickly. Does not add too much to a teamfight; could knock up a few opponents with Supernova or barely slow with her 2.

Mobility: B-
Poke: A
Sustain: C+
Teamfight: B-
Waveclear: B+
Notes: CC Immunity (Delayed), Invulnerability (Delayed), Tower Smasher

Fafnir

Fafnir brings lots of support to the table, including attack speed bonuses, stuns, and disarms. While transforming into a dragon he is all but invulnerable, but transforming back he is a sitting duck. His passive lets him get an upper hand.

Mobility: B
Poke: B-
Sustain: B
Teamfight: C+
Waveclear: D
Notes: Quicker Gold

Sun Wukong

While Sun Wukong technically has two waveclears, the Ox is hardly used. What makes him better than Erlang Shen is his ult, he can become CC Immune, while also sending out a minion to tank tower damage. He is not invulnerable while upon his cloud, and may take damage from Damage over Time attacks.

Mobility: A-
Poke: B+
Sustain: A-
Teamfight: B+
Waveclear: B
Notes: CC Immunity, Tower Smasher

Erlang Shen

His poke is very limited and he can be killed before his ult heals him easily. With these aspects in mind, he is also a very formidable melee fighter and can make a shield out of his turtle form.

Mobility: B
Poke: B-
Sustain: B+
Teamfight: B
Waveclear: C
Notes: Attack Penalty Immunity (Delayed)

Skadi

Without Kaldr, Skadi would be a lot lower on this list. Kaldr can root enemies, deal lots of damage, and tank towers. Skadi can also create an ice rink that speeds her up and limits opponents mobility temporarily.

Mobility: C
Poke: B+
Sustain: B-
Teamfight: C
Waveclear: B-
Notes: Tower Smasher

Bastet

Her leap allows her solid poke, but her enemies may get smart and CC her, or attack her retreating point. Cats make great meat shields for tower shots.

Mobility: A-
Poke: A
Sustain: C
Teamfight: C
Waveclear: C-
Notes: Tower Smasher

Freya

Good for late game, but until then is nothing more than a walking ult to poke enemies. This list assumes all parties are competent; if Freya banishes and saves enemies from ultimates, she would be much lower.

Mobility: C+
Poke: B+
Sustain: A-
Teamfight: A
Waveclear: A
Notes: CC Immunity
D: Okay
Generally speaking these gods are okay, but cannot carry a team alone by any measure.

Ah Puch

People tell me Ah Puch is great in Assault; I have yet to see that. He does do lots of damage, but his sustain is outright laughable. Sure, he might be able to heal himself by exhuming corpses, but any team with any level of competence and poke will get him off the field as soon as possible.

Mobility: F+
Poke: B+
Sustain: D+
Teamfight: A
Waveclear: B+

Nox

Her ult has long range, but otherwise she is predictable in behavior. Oh wow, I'm silenced! I wonder what comes next? Another thing worth mentioning is that she copies the mobility of her teammates, but only if they are nearby.

Mobility: A-
Poke: A-
Sustain: C-
Teamfight: B
Waveclear: B

Thanatos

It's no secret that Thanatos falls off late game and must defeat his opponents quickly. With my expereince in Assault, that rarely happens. He can target tanks such as Terra and Geb to get rid of them quickly through his ult, but once he dives into enemy grounds, he is good as dead.

Mobility: B
Poke: B
Sustain: C
Teamfight: C
Waveclear: C

Poseidon

Multiple ways of waveclearing but without the natural healing of Ah Muzen Cab, Poseidon is wedged right in the middle of the list. He requires hitting things to build enough speed to get anywhere, so forget about reaching the front lines quickly. His ult can be effective, but good luck getting all the enemies so closely scrunched together.

Kumbhakarna

E: Bad
Now we start getting into the gods that are clearly not built for Assault. Gods at E and below tend to be one trick ponies.

Zeus
Chain Lightning makes good poke, but that's about it. His ult requires tons of CC to keep people in it, otherwise its little more than area denial.

Mobility: D+

Sobek's pull can be interrupted by minions and his ult can be avoided by escapes. His heal and knockup are decent.

Kali
Kali snaps like a twig, and only stays on the battlefield because all of her moves have sustain built in. Hardly a threat without Qins, and with Qins all she needs is to be filled with damage. If she ults, the enemy team can CC her, more likely than not at least one enemy has some form of hard CC. With recent updates her target knows he is her target, and as such will avoid her at all costs, and his teammates won't let her touch him.

Medusa
She has antiheal, but it's in her escape. She has a ranged attack, but needs enemies to bounce it off of, which is hard when there are only a handful of minions at a time for everyone. She can ult, but people can look away. There is not much for her to do here.

Jing Wei
Her passive lets her reach the front quickly, but once she's there she doesn't do much. Her ult just does some damage with no CC, her wind gust is fairly avoidable, and she needs to level her bolts twice before they can crit. The final nail in the coffin for her legitimacy as an Assault god is when Hi Rez removed her attack movement penalty.

Bacchus
Requires too much mana in a mode without backing to fountain, and his burp's effects only happen on the last tick, so enemies can avoid it. His one saving grace is his ult, which has 70% scaling, so he hardly makes a tank.

Osiris

He has antiheal...that's hard to land on more than one person. He has no movement penalties for his melee basics...in a mode that favors ranged abilities. He can stun enemies and reduce their damage...if they are stupid enough to stay in his radius.

Ne Zha

His escape is his ult. His sash brings him in the middle of his enemies. His ult leaves his target to the mercy of his teammates, but he is also at the mercy of his enemies. He can crit, but he is melee based. He can heal. That's good, right?

This will anger fans of the Morrigan, but the best thing about her is she can turn into someone else. Even then that's rarely. Until then, she's a sitting raven who can't fool anyone.

Ao Kuang

He works in 1v1, but in a mode where enemies are almost always within a short distace on each other, he gets crushed quickly. Like the Morrigan, except he can't transform into other people.

Notes: Poor man's The Morrigan

Anubis

Imagine Ah Puch but half his moves he must stand still, and they have a smaller area of effect, plus no method of healing himself. That's Anubis.

G: Reroll
The reroll tier. These gods are so bad, they make F tier gods look good.

Vamana

Compared to Sun Wukong, he has a harder time keeping up with his opponents, and he is much more likely to die during his ult. Enemies also have a great chance of escaping his ult's range altogether.

Mobility: C+
Poke: C
Sustain: C
Teamfight: D
Waveclear: D+

Ratatoskr

Can heal, shred protections, and is very mobile. Too bad he has terrible range and snaps like a twig. At least he can ult to the enemy tower to deny kills and not be as much of a liability in dying.

Mobility: B
Poke: D+
Sustain: D+
Teamfight: C-
Waveclear: D+
Notes: Death Denier

Arachne

Requires to be close and personal to do anything. Can also deny kills, but has lacks as much mobility as the other gods that can do this.

Mobility: C
Poke: D
Sustain: C-
Teamfight: D+
Waveclear: D
Notes: Death Denier

Nemesis

All of Nemesis' abilities require her enemies participation. If they don't attack her, she can't heal. If the ult target backs up, her ult is practically useless.

Mobility: C+
Poke: D+
Sustain: C-
Teamfight: D
Waveclear: D

Cabrakan

Too brittle to be a tank, too weak to be a warrior. Cabrakan also has to stay still while channeling his 3, which amounts to him painting himself like a target. Walls can trap enemies sometimes maybe but not really.

Mobility: D+
Poke: F+
Sustain: C+
Teamfight: D+
Waveclear: D

Serqet

Good at running away and ulting. Unlike Susano, can land poison to disorient foes.

Mobility: B
Poke: D
Sustain: D
Teamfight: D
Waveclear: D+

He Bo

Made out of wet tissue paper. Can poke and deal damage, but will be gunned down immediately by anyone with a plural of braincells. Unlike Ah Puch does not have any method of self healing.

Mobility: C
Poke: B-
Sustain: F-
Teamfight: D+
Waveclear: D-

Susano

There is practically nothing redeemable for Susano in Assault. Being quick means nothing if you can't do anything once you get to your destination. I'm just going to leave it at that.

Mobility: B
Poke: D+
Sustain: D
Teamfight: D-
Waveclear: D

Bakasura

His team must actively avoid attacking minions so he can heal. He also can't waveclear. The only two things he can do is cripple his opponents with his ult for a few seconds, and ult to have his minions take tower hits.

Mobility: C+
Poke: D+
Sustain: D
Teamfight: F-
Waveclear: F
Notes: Tower Smasher

Awilix

90% of the time during an Assault match your opponents will face you, making her knockup unsuable and her ult requires someone else to knock her up. Her poke does limited damage, and once she reaches the front line the only thing her 1 is good for is feeding. At least with her two you can pause an enemy for a second, right?

Mobility: C-
Poke: D+
Sustain: D
Teamfight: D-
Waveclear: D
Conclusion
That's my list. You are almost bound to disagree on some level, but hopefully now you will think twice before you reroll Ra.

I will try to update this occasionally, but life (and actually playing Smite) gets in the way.

Now go forth, and always remember to attack the titan!

Dude. Osiris should be waay more because his ult = 40% anti heal for idk how much seconds. you know how strong that is in teamfights?

I'm super impressed you took the time to make this entire list. Tho I feel this sort of list can never be set in stone due to peoples' varying opinions, you did an awesome job :D

Thanks for the response, Lilit. D Tier isn't bad, but they aren't good (Artemis' traps are little more than a minor annoyance). I'll be sure to clarify this. My experience with Arachne has been similar to yours, I have once gone 7-0 with her in Assault, but I blame that more on the enemy team being stupid rather than Arachne being a harbringer of destruction. I'd much rather have, say, Amaterasu in Assault than Arachne any time.
