Intro
Hello, this guide is for those that are unsure how to run Thief 1 and 2 fan missions. First off, Tfix is needed for for Thief and Tafferpatcher for Thief 2. They're fan mods that are essential in allowing the games to run on modern systems. Afterwards, DarkLoader needs to be downloaded to allow the fan missions to be playable. Finally, the missions can then be downloaded from fan sites.
Getting Tfix and Tafferpatcher to Work
If Tfix/Tafferpatch is already installed, this section can be skipped. Otherwise, Tfix can be found here[ttlg.com] and Tafferpatcher here[ttlg.com]. Both should be simple to install as an installation will pop up asking for the directory of the Thief Gold or Thief 2 folder (which is located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common/thief_gold & C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\thief_2).

Thief 1 Install Directory:

Thief 2 Install Directory:

Make sure the mods are installed correctly and are working as intended before continuing forward.
Setting up DarkLoader
DarkLoader can be acquired here [darkloader.net]. It follows a similar process of finding the install directory of TFix and Tafferpatcher. A folder is needed for the fan missions to be stored in. When DarkLoader first starts, a prompt will initiate the setup asking to pick the folders for the missions and the games installation directory. The folder for the fan missions can be selected now. This folder can be changed anytime if needed.

DarkLoader Setup:

At the top of the picture there is a demonstration of some missions that have already been downloaded. Click the mission you wish to play or the original game and select 'Play' at the bottom left. You could also select the mission on DarkLoader and play it through Steam.

If the guide is being followed accordingly, the original games will only be in the loader. Now the fan missions can be downloaded.
Downloading the Fan Missions
Click the link here [thiefmissions.com] to enter the fan mission page. On this website most missions can be download by going to the search option on the website "Search for missions" and typing in a name. There is also the option of clicking any game at the search bar which shows all the available missions for each respective game. Remember, Thief 1 missions will only work for Thief 1 and so on. Also, Thief 1 fan missions will work on Thief Gold so don't worry about whether it will play or not. Download any mission and place it in the mission folder that was selected for DarkLoader. Unzipping the folder is not necessary.

Read "Setting up DarkLoader" on how to run the missions.
Conclusion
Hopefully the guide and installations are easy to follow. If there are any questions/concerns please feel free to leave a message below. As always, happy thieving TAFFER.

Better yet, AngelLoader [github.com] seems to be the newest (and best!) loader for fan missions in current year.

you should probably use the NewDarkloader [www.ttlg.com] by now. it's a maintained, modern version of essentially the same thing. (and it works on modern systems without a hassle! wew)

I got an unreadable error as well, but I just pushed past it. The software seems to be functional; I'll try running the games tomorrow. Thanks for the setup guide!
