Περιγραφή

On the 11th January 2017, the Gordon Highlanders arrived as a free update in Verdun. The Scots bring with them a new rifle in the form of the .303 Pattern 1914 Enfield, a more accurate and durable though heavier rifle than the Lee-Enfield. With their distinctive attire and voices, the Scots make for an interesting squad to storm the trenches in Verdun.

Background History

In World War One, some 50,000 Gordon Highlanders served on the Western Front. Of these, approximately 27,000 became battlefield casualties with 8,870 killed. The Regiment raised a total of 21 battalions and was awarded 57 battle honours, with 4 Victoria Crosses. The Germans nicknamed the Scots the "Ladies from Hell" for the distinctive kilts they wore and their ferocious tenacity in the face of danger.

One Victoria cross recipient, Lieutenant Allan Ebenezer Ker, near St. Quentin in 1918 held off 500 Germans for three hours. When German soldiers broke through his defenses, he and his platoon engaged them in hand to hand combat. Although suffering from gas poisoning, lack of food and having been under an artillery barrage for 10 hours, Ker summoned his strength to overpower a German and take his rifle after his Vickers MG ran out of ammunition. He proceeded to use his rifle to good effect and was instrumental in protecting his wounded men who could not be evacuated. Incredibly, Ker survived the ordeal and ended his life at the rank of major in 1953.
