Defensive Rebounding Rules
  • 1. Do NOT move towards the basket when the shot goes up.
  • 2. Find your man, and box him out (LT) AS FAR AWAY from the basket as possible.
  • 3. When the ball hits the rim, go up and get the board.

When you move to the basket, you end up boxing your man out realy close to the basket. Meaning that long rebounds often go to him. Thats why you find your man, box him out as far as possible. To increase the area in which rebounds fall to you. Like in the picture below.

The important aspect here is that on defense, EVERYONE does this. Not only does this prevent offensive rebounds, this also prevents the pass to the open sharpshooter when they do get the rebound. This principle applies for both BIGS and Guards, and will make you outrebound even the glass cleaners.
Offensive Rebounding Rules
  • 1. Guards should always stop the fastbreak (a 6'0 playmaker has no business rebounding)
  • 2. Bigs should crash the boards UNLESS they are guarding a smaller player who doesn't rebound and runs the break.
  • 3. Wiggle your left stick to get a better position for the rebound (get by your man)
  • 4. Push your man down as far under the basket as possible, so the long rebounds fall to you.
  • 5. Anticipate the shot, especially in end of clock situations, and dive past your man to get the inside (and push him out)

The Lstick wiggle (and hold once you get by )will cause you to attempt a swim move to get into the inside position (and grab that board).

Guards run back and stop that fast break. Nothing more important than that.
