Hello everybody!

I decided to make this guide to play Doom with GZDoom.

Basically GZDoom is:

GZDoom is a Doom source port based on ZDoom. It features an OpenGL renderer and lots of new features, among them:
3D floors
Dynamic lights
Quake2/Unreal style skyboxes
True color texture support
Model support (limited at the moment)

So simply, it's helping you to run DOOM with high end style.

Since Steam version of Doom comes with DOSBox it's really annoying to run with it. Like lower res, Steam Overlay isn't working at all, No support for mods or WADS, tons of bugs/crashes.

Well today we'll be fixing all of them.


So lets get started!


First get the latest build of GZDoom from here:

If you got 64-Bit (x64) system, download the 64-bit one. If you got 32-bit (x86) download the 32 bit one.


Installation is very simple. All you have to do is. Right click The Ultimate DOOM on your Steam Library. Choose Properties. Then select the "Local Files" tab. Then choose the "Browse Local Files"

This will lead you to Doom files. Choose "base" folder on Doom's main folder.

Copy the all files in GZDoom files you got in .zip

After you done that, delete dosbox.exe and rename gzdoom.exe to dosbox.exe

Then you can launch your game from your Steam Library.

Well, that's all you have to do! It's so simple.


After launching the game you will able to change resolution, controls etc... Whatever you can do at GZ-Doom.
