Modding Guide(incomplete)
By Milk Crusties
This is a modding tutorial for most of the assets in the game, this is incomplete because of the sheer amount of files that are unreadable and are in completely foreign in a sense of how difficult they are to change with a consitance on what the outcome would be. This tutorial will show how to get the most out of modding Brief Karate Folish. GLHF

Required Programs and Hardware
Here are the requirements to mod this gaem...
  • A computer, any would do, heck this game was made to run on good ol'Windows xp
  • A copy of Audacity. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH. YOU NEED THIS PROGAM TO MOD GAME
  • A copy of WinRAR is helpfull. I don't recall needing this to mod this game, but it is super helpfull if you want to share you're files

I strongly recommend to save multiple copies of this game. I have 4 versions of this mod on my computer. One through steam (Which I keep as the O.G. File) and 3 other versions in my downloads(Original, Modded, and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ version) that are easily accessiblehttp://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/107357223489871046/3C6997C65D0CC0F9C2BD03473AD32FFBB4D4E3A0/?interpolation=lanczos-none&output-format=jpeg&output-quality=95&fit=inside|256:*

You can copy the original files from steam by going into you're
local disk>Program Files(or Program Files(x64))>steam>steamapps>common>Brief Karate Foolishhttp://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/107357223489923521/A9288B629F056083BF2F477A1D129BACF6B33D33/?interpolation=lanczos-none&output-format=jpeg&output-quality=95&fit=inside|256:*
Modding Sounds/Music
Okay, so now we get into the fun(or not) part.

To change backround music, First configure that Audio in options are WAVE and not MIDI. It's a cool feature to read MIDIs but that's not what the average modder is trying to accomplishhttp://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/107357223489945919/F594DF45535E80C3F80357159FA833A9E8B7D168/?interpolation=lanczos-none&output-format=jpeg&output-quality=95&fit=inside|256:*

To change the background song

First, open the song you want to use in audacity, tweek it to the volume of teh game with a rough estimation of the game's volume. I recommend you understand the basics of the program and that YOU CANNOT EDIT WITHOUT THE STOP BUTTON ON.

Then go to the files bar and click export. Rename the song into whatever the original file is named(in this case it's bgm.wav) and choose to export it as a 24 PCM WAV. You can then navigate your way through your files to find the game's files and go to Brief Karate Foolish>title>Brief> bgm.wav

When it asks to replace file, do it, modding is trial and error.

You can change the stage songs by repeating the process, but replace the files in the stage files instead.

Okay, so the part I had just explaned right there is how you would mod the sounds and the added music.

To change sounds

Here Is where I get honest with you. Roughly 3/8 of the game I have no ability to mod yet. whoops.

You can only edit the sounds of the voice in the title screen and the character select screen. You can do this by doing the previous steps in the music tutorial. You can even use audacity to record you're own voice as the announcer, I assume this is the only reason you would mod this.
Modding Backrounds, Assets, and Stage Backgrounds
As of now, you hopefully should be famillar with the layout of the menu, if not, get used to it dammit.

To mod backgrounds

This is important because this is where you learn to use the specifications of the modding process.

First, find any picture you want and open it in paint. Click on the option to resize and click no to the Maintain Aspect Ratio box( YOU ALWAYS WANT TO DO THIS WHEN MODDING PICTURES TO EXACT SIZE). then type in the pixel dimentions of the original picture you are overwriting and overwrite that file with the new one with the EXACT name. This is alot modding assets.

To mod assets

When I refer to assets, I refer to things like the letters, numbers, shapes, effects, ect that appear on the screen. Most of these are found in the game, but some are out of game as well, like the moving icon in the main menu or the winning screen poses and win quotes. I won't explain how to mod all of these individually, but I can explain how to mod the whole package.

To mod most of the assets you find, they are in the System folder, and you can just use a little bit of ms paint magic and some meme magic and you're good to go, just know for the pictures with multiple assets in them, the backround color is transparent, so just be wise. One of the harder assets to mod is the quotes screen, but it is possible. First, copy a picture of the transparent texture by copying any amount of it with the select tool and copy an even amount of pixels both horizontally and verticall. Then paste it numerous times to line it up with itself and so that it cover the original text, then slap on your own text and BAM. Professional work.

To mod stage backgrounds

I'm not going to lie, this is the most boring and frusterating thing to mod.I want to die just thinking about it.

If you have seen the stage pictures in the stage folder, you might know why. The stages are layed out in a vertical manner as they are chopped down the center. I will attempt to show the easiest and best way of doing this so far

First take yo picture and resize it to 640x480.http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/107357223490134050/6D281D562839AB91C66A6E96A996971C95491E44/?interpolation=lanczos-none&output-format=jpeg&output-quality=95&fit=inside|256:* This part is tricky so pay attention. Select pixel 0,0 and drag your mouse to select everything in between of 0,0 and 320x480. Save it as your part one in the folder of the stage, rename it as the same thing with a remider that it is part one.http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/107357223490137508/ABE284457ACAFE343B67F1B999B03D97E465F542/?interpolation=lanczos-none&output-format=jpeg&output-quality=95&fit=inside|256:* Now take the original pic again and do the same for pixels 320x0 to 640x480 and repeat the process for the part 2. Then open up the original stage Background in paint and click on "paste from" and select the first one and place it pixel perfectly on top and the same for the second image,http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/107357223490139291/D1E3E10A88CC708B5689574763A9FA65A1EF5863/?interpolation=lanczos-none&output-format=jpeg&output-quality=95&fit=inside|256:* overwrite it and have a good ol Tim!
Other Tidbits
You cannot mod the rocket picture in the main menu from what I have learned. It has something to do with the opening animation.

ThiccBean27 the sprites are heavily compressed, but with the right tools, you can also make custom colors, and others.

Probably not... you might be able to change the physical appearance/sounds of the current roster tho...
