The Lizard King - Introduction and Schematics
This is a build imported from a comment in a discussion thread, felt it deserved it's own post. :)

This character is an all-rounder, basically designed to complete the entirety of the game: Main Quest, Guilds, Expansions and all. I have played this character from start to finish completing everything I could with the Difficulty Slider at 100, meaning that enemies tend to deal a lot of damage.

As such: this character is designed to try and avoid being hit. It plays like a swift acrobatic warrior that is light on its feet, with a little magic as backup. It's a bit of a late bloomer, having many skills to specialise in, but its major skills at least help shape its play style early on. The combination of Athletics and Spear in particular help to remain out of trouble.

It's not a 'perfect' build as such: It requires a lot of skills to work at its full potential, and its final gearset can potentially cover all 4 forms of armour [Unarmoured/Light/Medium/Heavy]. That said: It is definitely unique, and it's a lot of fun to play, and that's what matters. :)

The build plan contains some spoilers, so if that's not your thing then look away.

Race: Male Argonian. Once upon a time, I loved the Boots of Blinding Speed + Magicka Resistance combo, but I eventually thought of it [and still do] as a pretty cheap exploit. I wanted to make a fast character that didn't use them, and an Athletics boost + inability to wear boots seemed a good way to go.

Edit: If you’d like to wear Boots, see the comments!

Birth Sign: Atronach. This sign is silly. For magicka regeneration, one can use potions, or just absorb spells. Tip: Summon an Ancestral Ghost [from a ring or spell], hit it a few times, let it spam its absorb its drain spell, then kill it. Free magicka. Temple Shrines are good for free magicka absorption too.

Favoured Attributes: Strength and Endurance. The more Health the merrier. Starting Stats: Str 50, Int 40, Will 30, Ag 50, Sp 50, End 40, Per 30, Luck 40.

Class: The Lizard King [Custom, Combat Focused]

Major Skills: Athletics [50], Short Blade [30], Medium Armour [40], Spear [40], Sneak [30].

Minor Skills: Acrobatics [15], Mysticism [20], Restoration [15], Security [15], Enchant [15].

Some Miscellaneous Skills I like to focus in: Alchemy, Armourer, Block, Blunt Weapon, Heavy Armour, Speechcraft, Unarmoured. I don't like Marksman very much in Morrowind [maybe its the lack of Ranged Sneak Attack], and for ranged combat I just tend to use enchanted rings.

Total Potential Major/Minor Skillpoint Gains: 50 + 70 + 60 + 60 + 70 + 85 + 80 + 85 + 85 + 85 = 730 skill points total, so 73 possible level ups.

Maximum level = 74.

I don't like using exploits like the stupid Soul trap or Alchemy ones, but I am a bit lame when I play through Morrowind. I rely on training and lots of money [Creeper and the Mudcrab ftw] to raise skills up and/or get attributes to maximum [e.g. Getting 10 Axe training to get +5 strength increase on level up, despite never using an Axe]. 73 level ups is more than enough to raise every attribute to 100, so long as Luck is taken regularly for 60 of those level ups [So max level it can be delayed til is level 14].

I also like Enchanting. And stealing. It's fun. Bite me.

Skill Rundown

Athletics is for running fast. Goes without saying.

Short Blade is for two types of weapon: Lightweight Paralyse Swords [e.g. Dwemer Jinksword], and the Daedric Wakizashi, which if spammed is the most hilarious stun-lock weapon in the game. Pinning Almalexia to a wall whilst wailing on her with one of these is rather satisfying. I tend to train this skill with Silver Daggers (plural, they break easily).

Medium Armour is basically for one item: The Ebony Mail. Before acquring that, Bonemold, Orcish, Dreugh and Indoril Armour can provide moderate protection for not much encumbrance. Once I have an Ebony Mail, it is the only Medium Armour item I use.

Spear is a terrific weapon. It increases the character's Endurance as it levels, and has a reach of several metres. It takes a little while to get used to the extra reach, but combined with high Athletics, one can perpetually remain out of enemy melee range by running backwards and stabbing opponents periodically from a short distance away. The Devil's Spear from the Khajiit merchant in Balmora is IMO one of the most underrated items in Morrowind, providing a Bound Spear as a backup for difficult fights for a mere 165gp. This is basically the only spear I use, outside of a Constant Effect Bound Spear once the skill has hit 100.

Sneak is great for stealing things, and there's plenty of things to steal in Morrowind. You can also use it to flank and sneak attack enemies with your long-reach Spear.

Acrobatics is for jumping. If you have read my Jump Guide, you'll know that I like jumping. :)

Mysticism is useful for a lot of auxiliary spells. These include Soultrap [for enchanting], Telekinesis [for stealing things], Mark and Recall [for getting back home with lots of booty], and Almsivi/Divine Intervention [for getting around the land faster]. It can be practised whilst running around the countryside casting small custom spells on yourself, or just through training if necessary.

Restoration is for Restoring Health, Fatigue, Atrributes [Greater Bonewalkers can f*** off] and Disease. It is particularly useful for Tribunal Quests [and Tribunal Quests = Ebony Mail, mmmmmm]. It can be practised whilst running around the countryside casting small custom spells on yourself, or just through training if necessary.

Security is for opening things whilst remaining stealthed. Casting spells and using enchanted items breaks stealth: using picks and probes doesn't. This makes Security+Sneak useful for entering areas such as the Secret Library of Vivec undetected.

Enchant is a silly skill but sadly takes a while to increase, so I tend to end up training this one up to 100 [which requires a little 'charm']. It is handy to have a bit early on, as it helps to reduce item charge use. I use custom Fortify Skill rings to create my high end enchantments [such a Spell is available in Mournhold/Tribunal].

Miscellaneous Skills:

I like getting Alchemy training to potentially make my own potions and see what ingredients do. I very rarely make potions, so it's mainly to see what ingredients do...

A bit of Armourer never hurts to repair all your stuff. Wayn provides training, and Fighters guild supply chests contain plenty of hammers.

If I'm running around with a 1 handed weapon, Block is always nice to invest in.

I like raising Blunt Weapon up to 100 once I've got a few levels under my belt, there's some nice Blunt Weapons in Morrowind. Wayn provides training , and once it's 30ish the easiest way to do this is to grab a Dreugh Club, spam attack and whack everything.

Heavy Armour training by itself is a useful way to increase Endurance early on (Wayn!). Daedric Greaves and Wraithguard are also nice Heavy Armour items for this character down the line.

Speechcraft can be useful. Aside from making people like you, it's also useful for taunting. Want to kill somebody and steal their stuff? [Hey! I like that Glass Armour you're wearing...] Repeatedly bribe and taunt them until they decide to attack you, paralyse them with your jink sword, impale them with your spear, and loot all your bribe money back. Just save before you try this, you might end up accidentally killing someone important.

Unarmoured I like using at the end, once Medium Armour is maxed and I have my shiny Ebony Mail.

The Lizard King - Playstyle and Gear
To start with, I'm fairly cautious, walking often to save fatigue and picking my battles so as not to die. Once my character has enough Levels and starting gear to be relatively comfortable, I like to give myself little projects when I play. Doing a certain amount of quests in a given area, training a particular skill using small casts/hits, that sort of thing. Keeps things interesting the whole way through.

Starting Out:

Here's what I normally do to start out. One can potentially dash to various locations around Morrowind and get high level gear within the first few levels, removing most of the challenge from the rest of the game and leaving little for the character to look forward to or aim towards. This method doesn't do that, but it does involve a bit of craftiness [i.e. selling stolen stuff], and at least gets the character adequately set up to explore the world in whichever order it wants.

From Seyda Neen, I give Fargoth his ring, then visit Arrille's Tradehouse to get an Iron Halberd and an Imperial Chain Coif and Cuirass. After that, I loot the 4 types of mushroom required for Ajira's 1st mages guild quest. Luminous Russula, Violet Coprinus, Bungler's Bane, and Hypha Facia are all in or near Seyda Neen.

Once that's all done, I take the road straight to Balmora, walking via Pelagiad to take a 'visit' to Mebestian Ence's chest [you can hide around the corner out of vision]. There's too much in the chest to carry, so a bit of mental arithmetic is required to figure out what is worth keeping to sell. Ditch all the clothing: Creeper can't buy that. :)

I then continue on the road to Balmora, fighting a few animals on the way. Gold Kanet, Stoneflower Petals, Willow Anther, and Heather are all required for the 3rd Mages Guild quest, and these can be found on the way too.

Once in Balmora, I join the guilds, catch the Mages Guild teleport to Caldera, loot Ghorak Manor (can steal without penalty), find Creeper and sell some stuff, then visit the traders of Balmora and Caldera to get my starting items.

Useful Starter Gear:

Mages and Fighters Guild Chests: Lots of handy starter items, mainly potions and hammers. I basically sell everything else.
Devil's Spear: From Ra'Virr in Balmora. My precious.
Bonemold/Dreugh Armour: From Meldor in Balmora.
Orcish Armour: Ghorak Manor, upstairs in a crate.
Mark Potion: Fine Alchemist in Balmora.
Dwemer Jinksword: From Wayn in the Balmora Fighters Guild. Hit once with Jinksword to paralyse, switch to Spear to kill. Be careful using this against opponents that Reflect [like Daedra]. Wayn also offers some useful training to start once you have the money to spend it.
Amulet of Stamina: From Galbedir in Balmora Mages Guild. I try to substitute this with my own Enchanted Restore Fatigue ring [common ring, restore fatigue 39 pts on self] when I can. She also has a nice collection of soul gems...
Veloth's Robe, Amulet of Mighty Blows, Amulet of Recall, Ring of Aversion: From Verick Gemain in Caldera.

It's a good idea to take a visit around the Temples, Imperial Cult Shrines and Mages Guilds to grab useful spells. Restoration and Mysticism take priority, though it doesn't hurt to have some basic Destruction and Alteration spells to later use to make enchanted items.

Speaking of which: Lastly, once I have a few thousand gp spare and take some liberty with Galbedir's soul gem collection during the 2nd mages guild quest:

Expensive Ring, Winged Twilight Soul, 10pt Frost Damage in 5ft on Target. My first ranged weapon. It's basically a semi-automatic pistol. I go frost damage because the majority of human opponents are Dunmer and resistant to fire. Ilen Faveren in the Balmora Temple is my go-to enchanter for this. He can also be useful for making other small enchanted items, such as custom Restore Fatigue and Restore Health rings.

From here, the Lizard King is pretty well equipped to handle whatever it finds. It can fight, train, loot, steal and quest at its leisure in whichever order it likes. :)

Example High Level Gear Set:

Argonians cannot wear full face helmets or footwear, which is annoying but not a dealbreaker. A Dreugh Helmet is the best medium helmet it can wear [the Armourer Meldor in Balmora has one], and the lack of boots is compensated for with Unarmoured skill.

Another advantage of going [partially] Unarmoured is this: The Redas Robe of Deeds gives 50 Points of Feather. With the right items, one can make a functioning character that carries 0lbs, for ultra fast running and high jumping. To achieve this, the character's item set has to both function, and weigh less than 50 lbs. Armour typically weighs a lot, so it is a good idea to at least be partially Unarmoured, and only use armour in the slots where it will provide significant protection [e.g. the Chest].

Morrowind is a bit silly in that characters can wear several layers of clothing at the same time. One can equip a total of 18 items simultaneously.

Here's what I roughly try and aim for. **xxx** Indicates an item with a flexible enchantment on it:

Robe: Redas Robe of Deeds. Weight: 3lbs.
Pants: Constant Effect Enchanted Exquisite Pants, and the first Constant Effect Item I try to make: Bound Spear, Restore Fatigue 8 Points. Weight: 2lbs.
**Shirt:** Constant Effect Enchanted Exquisite Shirt. This can be a number of things, but I usually go for Strength 1-23 points, then re-equip it until I roll a high number on the boost. Sanctuary 1-23 points may also be a good idea. Weight: 2 lbs.
**Skirt:** Constant Effect Enchanted Exquisite Skirt. This again can be a number of things. Weight: 2lbs.
Amulet: Necromancer's Amulet. Weight 1lb.
Left and Right Ring: These two slots I leave handy for any custom Cast When Used rings. 20 different rings [I'd rarely have this many] = 2 lbs.
Mail/Chest Plate: Ebony Mail. The best suit of armour in the game, hands down. Weight: 20lbs.
Greaves: Therana's Daedric Greaves. These weigh 54 lbs, but have a 50 lb Feather Enchantment. Net Weight: 4 lbs.
Left and Right Pauldron: None. Before going Unarmoured, Indoril Pauldrons work best.
**Left and Right Gauntlet/Glove:** Enchanted Exquisite Gloves, Weight 2 lbs. Wraithguard can also be handy, but it weighs 15lbs.
Boots: None.
Helmet: Dreigh Helmet. Constant Effect: Bound Shield. Weight: 4.5 lbs.
**Belt:** Constant Effect Enchanted Exquisite Belt. Weight: 1 lb.
Weapons: Glass Jinkblade [Weight 1.8 lbs], Bound Spear [Weight 0 lbs]. Daedric Wakizashis are very fun, but they weigh 30lbs, so I do not carry them around permanently. Sunder is also a very nice weapon.
Shield: If one has the enchantment: Bound Shield, mainly for blocking purposes. Whilst this counts as Light Armour, Bound Armour always gives a fixed Armour value, so training in Light Armour doesn't help Armour rating. One could enchant a Daedric Tower Shield with a crazy constant effect enchantment and equip it here, but it sadly weighs 45 lbs, so I tend not to use it.

Total Minimum Net Weight of Items: 3 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 1 [10] + 2 [12] + 20 [32] + 4 [36] + 2 [38] + 4.5 [42.5] +1 [43.5] + 1.8 = 45.3 lbs. This leaves 4.7 lbs for carrying other useful light items, such as lockpicks and custom potions, before the character becomes encumbered beyond 0lbs.

Of course, once the character goes off to adventure and loot it is going to have to break 0lb encumbrance if it wants to pick anything up. But outside of that: A high level well geared 0lb encumbered character is truly a sight to behold in terms of how easily it can get around. The manoeuvrability is addictive.

I recommend any experienced Morrowind player give a 0lb character a try. It doesn't have to be an Argonian either. :)

@Sounds good :)

And yeah you can skip the utility magic school entirely once you have enough Enchanted items tbh. Mysticism/Restoration are mainly to help out in the early game.

I skipped all the offensive magic set but mysticism to gain more mark slots. I therefore reach 100 spear, around the time I become Dragon Knight and Archmaster of Redoran.

King

I am kinda invincible now, with 47+47+15 sanctuary, 8 fatigue, 4 health. And I just learn that I will not be getting no Daedric Greaves with 50 feather cause I joined Redoran lol.

All good though I don’t need no armor at all, not even Ebony Mail. I just walk around with best fashion possible.

@Lazaway I recently wrote a Magic System guide which has a section on Enchanting. It's long, but broken up into chapters. Chapter 16.4-16.6 concerns Enchanted items.

Might be worth a look. :)

Thank you king. The only benefit from my version is I don’t consume stamina while running. It still bug me when I swim and attack. I do notice encumbrance affect my running speed and jumping height. I ditched the vampire thing for now.

Am at the stage holding an Azura star figuring what to enchant. I followed you on the pants of bond spear. Since I haven’t progress to the stage of most of the enchanted items mentioned in the guide, I currently opt to DIY for this mid-stage. Thinking of 1-47*2 sanctuary with Amulet of Shadow 80 camo I should be able to ambush and sustain in skirmish. Or other possible combinations you might find helpful?
The Flying Rodent  [ophavsmand] 16. juli 2023 kl. 2:02
@Lazaway Encumberance has to do with strength, and not Fatigue. But you could well have some sort of mod that alters that as well if your finding that encumberance isn't affecting movement speed or jump height.

As for whether you should catch Vampirism: Make a save before you turn and then sure, taste the content. Just be aware that you cannot carry out any quests once you're a vampire besides those of the clans. If you don't like it you can always reload the save, and you can also get cured of it via a certain quest if you wish.
