How to save-load at will (walkaround).
By PeliasDeWizzzrd
The folloing tactic is by no means my special idea. Its an old time classic logical approach. I just add it here since I see no guide mentioning the unique-save problems of this game.

The unoficial patch 1.08 has a menu feature for save-load, but it doesnt work on my computer.
So:

- Save-and-Exit on the fame. The unique game savefile is updated.
- Go to the safe games folder (at your default Documents folder, I:\USERFOLDERSlikeDESKTOP\Pelias\Documents\SpacebaseDF9\Saves in my case, since I rerout the defoult windows folders out of my C: SSD drive, hoping to help him live longer)
- Copy the saved game file (I also copy the bootconfig.sys to be sure), and paste it at another folder.
- Return to game and continue playing, exiting to backup copies of the savefile whenever you like.
- When a nusty bug has your base destroyed, exit game, overwrite the save-file using any of the backup copies.
- Restart the game, that thinks that you are back at the moment you 'saved' your game.

Yeah the save/load menu is unfinished, it's not just you. Pretty sure one can write a small C++ program that launches with the game and each time certain amount of time passes copies the save somewhere else and keeps an x amount of backups. Assuming the savefile isn't copy-protected it's possible.
