Introduction
An intro to THIS abomination... Which is a shadow of its infamous brother (the one you used to pulverize T-34's beforehand, No not the Pz.Kfw. IV G.)

Pz IV H is a tank with various Battlerating:
In Arcade Battle it is 4.7
In Realistic Battle it is 4.3

The tank itself has up to 80mm of armor which unimpresively, it isn't much, enough to stop T-34/76 stock ammo theoritically. As for the sides, it has some side-skirts that will protectit from any high-explosives ordenances such as HE,HEAT and cHEATFS (however is unlikely you will face this last one).
Overall, this is her armor in a nutshell:

[insert picture here]

As for mobility, she can go fast on hard terrain and on soft terrain, she will take her time, but eventually will reach the battle unlike her older cousin Maus. Hull traverse speed is more effective when combined with reverse speed since it uses the slow, one-track use traverse (like every russian tank in-game).

However, we just have been spilling crap until now, the real reason you would play this tank is due to the gun. The KampfWagenKanone 7.5cm L/48 is just an extended version of the 7.5cm L/43 found on the Pz F2. The reload is considerably fast, how much? Well the fastest for all APHE, similar-caliber guns. Compared to others 4.3 and a bit lower, you got more penetration, more HE filter and better reload speed.

History
The Panzerkampfwagen IV tank was concieved by Heinz Guderian (the same man who proposed the Panzerkampfwagen III medium tank, including the blitzkrieg) originally as a anti-infantry vehicle. Essentially, the Pz.Kfw. IV would engage infantry and infantry positions, including bunkers, trenches and foxholes with HE shells, while the Pz.Kfw. III tank engaged enemy armour with its gun. During Operation Barbarossa, when the KV-1s and T-34s started rolling out, the Panzer 4 and Panzer 3 were incabable of dealing with the beasts. Their weaponry could not harm these vehicles and the Panzer 3 could only penetrate the T-34 only at close range from the side. This was when a upgrade for the Panzer 4 was concieved, Which was the Panzer 4 F2. Mounting an longer and much more powerful Kwk 40 L/48 gun which could penetrate the KV-1 and T-34 from the front. The Panzer 4 F2 also saw service in Africa in the Africa Corps, where it saw good service. The Panzer4 F2s were upgraded with 30mm of extra armor on the front, with a thicker cupola, effectively making the F2s the Panzer 4 G. The Panzer 4 G variant went a FURTHER upgrade, turning it into the Panzer 4 H. The Panzer 4 H recieved side skirts and a new gun (Which was longer and had slightly better penetration due to the barrel length). But by the end of the war, germany was low on materials so they built ANOTHER model of the panzer 4, the final model, the Panzer 4 J. This had a manually cranked turret, a simpler hull shape, and the view ports on the side of the hull have been removed. A total of around 8,553 tanks have been built, surpassed by the Stug III's 10,086 built. The Panzer 4 was suceeded by the Panther Tank (But it was still used due to the abundance of the Panzer 4s)
How to play
Since this thing lacks any notable armor, this is better off as a medium range sniper, ambusher, flanker, and a medium fire support vehicle. You dont have the armor to bounce a shell (your hull may asorb weaker guns at a distance but its very susceptible to the tanks of this BR), your turret has the same 50mm of armor, side armor non-existent, roof armor capable of being penetrated by 50 cals (Prepare to be eaten alive by black widows and Yak-9Ts.), but your gun is highly capable at this BR.

In general...

  • Do not rush people in this tank (Unless you want them to have free RP to grind their vehicles with)
  • Support friendly vehicles with your gun by taking out key targets too busy blasting away at your team
  • Ambush clueless idiots then GTFO unless you want to be glorious fireworks for the enemy team
  • Crush puny light tanks that too try to flank with your big gun and show them that they need a fast medium tank for that (US light tanks are a exception, the chaffee can and will fight back)
  • Snipe people that have brain damage and leave you alone.
Shell information, how much to take, when to use, Etc.
Pzgr 39: Bread and butter of your tank, the one you'll be using the most.

Pzgr 40: APCR, rarely used, but safe to bring.

Hl. Gr. 38B: Absolute ♥♥♥♥ do not use. this is not WOT where HEAT has 4000mm of pen and AP 10mm of pen

Sprgr. 34: Standard high explosive. Would be good against infantry. Only usable against the artillery on kursk. do not bring.

Take about 26 rounds of Pzgr 39 and 12 rounds of Pzgr 40, and tell Hl. Gr 38B and Sprgr 34 to ♥♥♥♥ itself. (approximately 38 rounds will get a rid of most ammo racks, the only ones will be to the right of the tank)
Enemies worth noting
In AB you will face 3.7 to 5.7 (You'll fight more 5.0 because MM hates you)

AMERICAN(T)S
-M24 Chaffee: Armor is thick enough for your shell to explode inside. He is more maneuverable and can get to your sides with relative ease. Dangerous.
-M41A1 Walker Bulldog:
(ONLY SEEN IF YOU BRING 5.0 OR A TIGER H1)
Fires AP, APCR, APDS and HE. Has a whole variety of shells to make your life bad. Shoot anywhere, his ammo rack is next to his driver.
-M4 Sherman: Turret is very strong, hull not so much. his M61 can pen your turret and put a stop to your plans of world domination. Shoot him in the hull, avoid turret.
-M4A2: Has a upgraded hull over the M4 sherman, a little redesign on the turret. Shoot him anywhere.
-M4A3 (105) HVSS: Carries a gun that takes note of your poor roof and belly armor. his HEAT will wreck you. HVSS stands for the Horizontal Volute Suspension System. Basically a better suspension system allowing for more mobility. More mobile than other shermans, same hull as M4A2.
-M4A1 (76) W: No notable armor, gun can pen you at any range. Shoot him anywhere you please.
-M4A2 (76) W: An upgrade over the M4A1 (76) W, which means he has the same hull as the M4A2, but he has a armor plate behind the mantlet. Shoot anywhere BUT mantlet area.
-M4A3 (76) W HVSS: The last and final sherman. More mobile than the other shermans, but is generally the same tank. Carries APCR, you both can 1 shot eachother.
-M10 Wolverine: The US tank doctrine is pretty crazy. Has no notable armor, turret rotation is laughable, but his gun is dangerous. Shoot him anywhere.
-M18 Hellcat: Maybe this is the reason to bring HEAT. but ammo racks are easily exploitable with APCBC. Shoot him around the turret area, a little below (ammo racks there)
M19 TGMC: 76mm of penetration with AP at close range. Both guns dont fire at the same time, so it basically is either 2 hits that are a little slow (1 gun fires before the 2nd gun, effect can be seen by continous shoot and reload) or 1 continous stream of AP that threatens to tear you a new ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
-M16 MGMC: Used only by people who dont like the M15 CMGC. Shoot anywhere, but he can pen your rear. If he shoots your face its really hard to see because so much smoke.
-M15 CMGC: Driven by madmen. Shoot anywhere.
-T20 prototype pershing: The first prototype of the pershing. he can bounce your shells if he angles.
-T25: baby pershing, poor thing should'nt be at 6.0 in the first place. Treat it like a tiger tank and you'll be fine.
(Only seen if you have a 5.0 or if you got uptiered)
-M26 Pershing: Impervious to your gun, APCR might work. You're better off flanking him and hope he doesnt flank YOU.
(SEEN ONLY IF YOU HAVE A 5.3 OR TIGER TANK)

COMMIE SCUM
-T-34-85 (D-5T): An upgrade of the standard T-34, basically for against panthers and tigers. But it being 5.0 results it in it clubbing you. Turret ring, anywhere on the UFP, turret front
-T-34-85: It actually has 5 crew! and APCR! Same tactic with above tank
-T-34-1942: A t-34. Shoot it anywhere, he can only pen your hull at close range and turret at most ranges. He can pen your side any time.
-IS-2: You struggle to pen this monster while it will devour you with no effort. Shoot hull cheeks at close range, or hit his turret. Best bet is to shoot him while he's distracted.
-KV-122: A KV-1S with a IS-2 turret on it. MUCH easier to kill because 75mm of armor at front is susceptible to your gun
-KV-85: A panther equivalent, I guess. Shoot him anywhere.
-KV-2: Fires Nuclear Anti-matter fusion shells at your face. If he sees you, game over. Shoot him anywhere, you should be able to kill him.
-ZSU-37: TURRET PEN TURRET PEN TURRET PEN Shoot him anywhere.
-SU-100Y: Stalin's box of DOOM. Armor is so pathetic, even a flakpanzer 1 can penetrate it!
-SU-122: OP HE and HEAT shells. If he hits your roof armor with HE, you die
-SU-152: A anti-tank version of a KV-2. Why? it pens roughly the same amount as a Tiger H1. Shoot anywhere.
-ISU-152: No real difference.
-ISU-122: No real difference.

FACIST SCUM
-Panzer 4 F2: No noteworthy armor whatsoever but a gun capable of screwing you over
-Panzer 4 G: Essentially you but with no side skirts and the F2's gun
-Panzer 4 H: Its you. Shoot him before he shoots you
-Tiger H1: You should never fight this thing head-on unless you have a death wish. Try flanking or shoot him when he's too dumb to acknowledge your existence
-Panther D: Invulerable head on, side armor (including rear) is pretty pathetic. You can try shooting the cupola or mantlet.
-Tiger E: Lower glacis is not a option, nor the commanders cupola. Flank and spank.
-Panther A: The turret can actually turn so the gun can say "Hi, trying to flank me?" when you flank him and fail to kill him.
-Panther G: Upgraded mantlet and a slightly weaker lower glacis. Shoot lower glacis or just flank him.
-Panther F: The turret is small, so 1 good shot will kill the entire turret crew. But his gun reloads faster.
-Flak 37 Zugkraftwagen: The very definition of german bias at 3.7. See that rectangle behind the turret? Shoot that. Because ammo racks.
-Stug 3 (every model): A small target, but with good aim can be easily dealt with. Shoot at driver compartment for easy kill
-Jagdpanzer 4: Harder to kill than a stug. Flank him or shoot lower glacis
-Hetzer: Lower glacis/side armor when he angles (WHICH YOU SHOULD NEVER DO IN A HETZER)
-Wirbelwind: APCR + Your side armor = YOU ARE DEAD. Shoot him anywhere, for his hull is that of a Panzer 4 G.
-Ostwind: It can spit a continuous stream of 37mm APHE at your turret front. Shoot him anywhere or you are dead.

BRITBONGS

-Cromwell (Any variant): Autoloader gun with decent armor. Reload is ♥♥♥♥♥♥
-3 inch gun carrier: Armor is trolly as hell for some reason.
-Churchill Mk IIV: Invulerable from front, so flank him.
-Churchill Mk III: Hard to pen if angled.
-Crusader Mk III: A rare sight, but can be seen if someone brings it because of its powerful gun.
-Crusader AA mk 2: Probs can only pen your side and rear. But its really annoying.
-Firefly: Armor is weak, but gun is dangerous.
-17 pdr achilles: Basically a M10 but has a gun that can kill tigers and panthers
-Comet: A up-armored, up-gunned cromwell, Much harder to kill than a firefly. shoots APDS.
-Challenger: One day gayjin decided that this piece of ♥♥♥♥ is equal to a tiger 2. Shoot it anywhere.
-Avenger: A challenger with lower profile and has light tank armor.

GLORIOUS NIPPON TANKS (Working on intended)

-Tiger E (Japan): Its a tiger E.
-Chi-nu: Side armor is weak. Gun is deadly.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In RB, you will face from 3.3 to 5.3.
The only tanks you will have to frontally avoid would be
-KV-1 when angled
-M4A3E2 in any position (if her older sisters already has problems, for the younger one problems are worse.)
-Churchill MK-7 (but usually you can either out-flank it or either load APCR and take the crap out of it)
Tl;Dr and ending
Shame on you, lazy git. Go back and read the ENTIRE thing. It will help on your english grade, I promise! :D

You can actually angle the armor of the Jagdpanzer 38 (t) Hetzer but must have some form of cover such as a wall as to expose only the upper frontal armor plate.

If you want a photo for the pz iv h's armour in a nutshell put a photo of "Panzer 4" from Panzermadels it fits perfectly

Tiger I has bad armor if you can point blank them with a well-placed shot.

@Results Atypical Well if you angle right and you get scaled down to 5.3 or 5.0, most tanks cant pem your armor.

Everyone talks about not facing a Tiger H1 head on, and yet my Tiger H1 frequently gets killed head on....

addition to nihon :
Chi-To : deadlier version of chi-nu
Ho-Ro : Nuclear Anti-Tank Device Mk.II, no armour (yes people even bring this thing to high tier matches just cuz it's durp)
Chi-Ri : Chi-To with shorter load / longer load depends on your luck
Na-To : spaa with duct taped chi-to's gun, which is deadly
any JGSDF amuricant tanks : read it's muricant counterpart
so-ki : Jap wilberwind with less pen and less gun

that sums it pretty good
