overview
official manual[thumpergame.com]

Score is accumulated at every checkpoint and the very end of a level.
It depends on your performance up to that point.
These are the base score values:
  • no damage +1000
  • no misses +1000
  • perfect turn +200
  • crak +100
  • kill +50
no damage/misses
These two gain +500 on every ocurrence. Only death and restart reset this.

No misses only requires you to hit all thumps. You can crash and miss everything else.
crak
Crashing a barrier or arc after hitting a thump and holding the button gives 1 crak.
Hitting an activated thump with shell gives 3 craks.
Pounding an activated thump with shell gives 4 craks.

Upon hitting a streak of 8 thumps the amount of collected crak will multiply.

While having a thump streak multplier, pounding onto a thump will activate the last thump within range of the shockwave.

An activated thump will appear for clearing a boss phase on first attempt.
Two will appear for clearing it with a pound on first attempt.

Every checkpoint has an activated thump.
kills
The tendrils on the side of the track can be killed with the shockwave from pounding on a thump or the sparkling thump shot at a boss.

Looking back, I remember posting the full strings of all the level contents in the official Discord server. The one thing I had not included was which thumps light up which ones (if any) when pounded, which would've taken some serious extra work. I wonder how my post in Discord has helped since (I go by a different alias there) — perhaps by now 100% optimal routing for each of the 9 levels has been found (i.e. when/where to fly and when/where to pound, in addition to all the sneaky, tricky-to-execute techniques)....

"Crak" kinda cracks me up. Pun intention is in superposition.

I noticed that about the kills (it's actually per pair of tentacles, not each individual one... two sides of the track). I was hoping you would update your guide about that :P

The official manual didn't exist when I wrote those two guides and these things had been called crak previously :) (there were a lot more details on all of it). And yes, it's specifically the last thump within pound range, not the next.

I've added a link to the manual on both guides.

And kills are 50 points per tendrill killed off.

If you read the game's manual, the term "crak" isn't used — just gems. Also, it may be good to elaborate just a bit on how the mutiplier works.

Also, something of note: sometimes when pounding a thump, It'll activate not necessarily the nearest thump in range (unless thumps are sparse), but the next one (this is intentional, so that pounding streaks on activated thumps can be achieved).

As for kills, my question is, what exactly counts as a kill? Is it the number of pounds done where there are tentacles or a certain number of tentacles killed off?

Nice guide! :p2aperture:

Well, crak is worth twice as much and gets the chain multiplier - so most of the time you gotta take that over kills. But that is indeed a thing to consider for perfect routing.
