Basic Movement
By default the controller displays a circle with a smaller colored circle at the center. To move freely while not in combat press outside the colored circle and use the touchpad as an analog control. For precision movement and selecting targets press within the colored circle and drag the circle to the desired location on-screen.
Leveling Up and Spending Resources
Upgrading stats and crafting both use resources but with some distinctions. Similar to the currencies like copper, silver, and gold in other games, Eon Altar uses Common, Precious, Remnants, Renown, and Godstones. The resources of Common, Precious, and Remnants are found through looting objects, completing quests, and defeated enemies. Renown is earned through quest progression and defeated enemies. Godstones are earned by reaching checkpoints.

Level Up Your Character
Characters will level up by earning Renown from quest progression and defeating enemies. The points automatically apply themselves to level up the character just like EXP in most rpgs. Renown is also used separately as a resource to purchase skills in the Abilities menu. Spending Renown does not affect the character level; the total Renown earned through the history of the character levels up the character.

How To Spend Renown and Basic Resources
Basic resources are spent in crafting and the Upgrade tech trees. Renown on the other hand is only spent in the Abilities trees. Select any unpurchased skill or upgrade and the top of the screen will show the skill effects and cost. Some skills in the Upgrade trees only require resources while most require additional Godstones.

Unlocking The Next Abilities Or Upgrade Tier
Upgrade trees, separate from the Abilities trees use Godstones, Resources, and are not restircted by a character level requirement. The Upgrade menu requires Godstones for almost everything but not for all upgrades. In order to unlock the next tier in the Upgrades tree you will need to purchase the unlock bar which is the text located between each line of skills.

Abilities tree tiers will be locked until the charater has reached the level requirement. The bottom of the Ability tree screen will display how much more Renown they need to level up; your character level is displayed at the top left.

Crafting
First you will need to have purchased the knowledge skill to craft a particular item. These knowledge skills are purchased in either the Abilites and Upgrades trees. When you have the ability to craft, open the main menu and select Gear. Any item that is craftable will show a box to the right of the item name. Inside that box will be the crafting cost for the item.
Combat: Using & Swapping Disciplines
How To Activate Disciplines
Every character has 3 Disciplines which can be viewed in the Abilities menu. Placing a character into a specific Discipline stance relies solely on the last skill used by that character while in combat. When finishing a combat turn it is normally advisable to end a character's turn with a skill from a Discipline with the most defense bonuses.

Knowing Which Stats Benefit A Discipline
Each Discipline has 3 attributes which affect the Accuracy, Force, and Defense rolls. Not all disciplines share the same attribute bonuses. For instance +1 Vitality may affect Defense in one Discipline but will have no affect in the other two. View which attributes affect each Discipline by opening a Discipline page and selecting the far upper left ability that looks like an upwards arrow.
Available Skills and Info
There are two Action windows available to the player at all times. While outside of combat the player by default has the movement pad displayed. They can switch to their equipped items panel by pressing the button on the bottom left. During combat the movement pad screen adds available combat actions to the screen in a circular arrangement. The player can also switch to their equipped items during combat by pressing the button on the bottom left. Items need to be equipped before combat begins.

What Does This Skill Do?
Whenever actions are available the screen will display a circlular arrangment of your available actions. Press and hold an available action to view what that action does; information will appear at the top of the screen. Any text in green can be selected for additional information.

Area of Effect Actions
Actions that affect a target area (AoE) will display their range on the combat screen by pressing and holding that action button.
Out of Combat: Physical Attributes
There are 6* skills, each getting a half-point boost for every point of their linked attributes:
  • Athletics (strength) - is used mainly for smashing things. Most characters aren't nimble enough to pick open chests, so they're likely to break them open instead. Stronger characters will be better here.
  • Acrobatics (agility) - is used to dodge incoming piercing based traps, like arrows.
  • Scouting (perception) - is used to detect hidden items and physical traps.
  • Stamina (vitality) - is used to avoid damage from impact-based traps, like falling rocks, as well as poison or toxic damage.
  • Shrouding (willpower) - is your character's resistance to magic, used to avoid damage from chaos and resistance-based traps
  • Scholar (insight) - book-smarts, used to uncover hidden lore and unlock magic-based doors and chests.
  • Thievery (agility) - Silent Thorn gets to make Athletics checks using her Agility instead of her strength.

Communicating With Teammates
There are two different types of dialogue and information that display on the controller.
  • Top of the Screen - is for your eyes only. This information can either be kept secret or shared with teammates.
  • Bottom of the Screen with Character Portrait - is to be spoken aloud. This dialogue is spoken to teammates because it contains important story and plot information.
