Ohai dere
I'm CobaltNinja. My support is level 20 and I'm currently working on my other classes.

You might see me in:
Normal
Hard
Suicidal
Hell on Earth

This guide is focusing on how to correctly play support and deal maximum damage. I'm usually on the top of the leaderboard as a support. Supports should be focusing on Scrakes and Fleshpounds, especially Sirens.
Skill Tree
As a support, I usually focus on outputting ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of damage in short blasts. Shotguns are my thing, and DAMN these things are snipers. You should be able to get headshots EZPZ and penetrate through multiple zeds.

Every time a support levels up, these things happen:

Increased amount of door health welded/dewelded 3%
Support weapon penetration increased 20% (Includes starting shotgun, even though it says it has no penetration amount of zeds that can be shot per bullet increases by 1 for each 100%)
Support weapon damage increased 1%
Maximum ammo capacity increased 1%

Every 5 levels, a support's maximum carry weight increases by 1, up to a maximum of 20 at level 25.

Skills

Getting to the skills, here's what you should use:

Tactical Reload (You're going to be shooting a LOT of bullets, so increased mag size doesn't really help here. Tactical Reload allows you to reload faster, which will help especially in the early waves with 1 bullet at a time reloaded.)

Salvo (Berserkers are the tanks. Not supports. Plus 30% is a lot.)

Tight Choke (You're already going to have 500% penetration at level 25, so why bother with piercing rounds?)

Resupply Pack (This benefits the whole damn team, and SWAT is better at stumbling zeds anyway. With your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ridiculous amounts of damage stumble doesn't matter.)

Zed Time: Barrage (This is the most useful thing in the early waves and still benefits you in the later ones. I hate it when zedtime triggers and I'm loading a shell in my gun.)

At level 25, a dream loadout should be:

AA-12
Starting Shotgun
Double Barrel
Medic Pistol
Arsenal
You're gonna be shooting a lot of bullets, and therefore run out. You should always stick to your shotguns, but try to conserve ammo. Here are a few tips on how to build (and use) your arsenal.

Line up any minor zeds you can, and fire. This can save you a lot of ammo (less effective in the early levels)

Use the double-barreled on Sirens. This will conserve expensive ammo and Sirens have a weakness to it, so may as well blast them into space. (you can also use it in an emergency and/or on scrakes, fleshpounds, or if you're cornered)

♥♥♥♥ the M4. Yeah. It sucks ♥♥♥♥. Don't use the autotrade, and keep the double barreled shotgun and the starting shotty until you can get the AA-12 without selling the DB.

You don't have to aim for the face. Remember, at level 25 you're going to be seeing 500% pentration increase, 25% (that's a lot) damage increase, and a lot of bullets. Practice lining up zeds and shooting the body to get the maxmimum penetration possible.

Don't hug the trader. Try to stay as far away from the trader as possible while still being able to access it to allow teammates to access your ammo backpack before they commence trade.

(if another support is on your team or non-support) Take the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ammo and armor from the support. This saves you dosh, okay?

Ammo conservation is less of a problem as you level up. 1% ammo cap increase for every level, plus an extra for the Resupply Pack.

Don't run unless your team runs. With your incredible damage ability, you should be able to take down scrakes, fleshpounds, and sirens ridiculously easy. If your team decides to run, go with them.

(information acquired from @Immortal Nub) If a scrake is attacking you, bash him during his attack to give you enough time to aim for the face. Double barrel shotgun for best results.

(information acquired from @Immortal Nub) If you'd like, the Caulk n' Burn is a more effective way to deal with being surrounded by zeds; just aim for the feet. However, please take note that damage increase will not be applied and ammo will not increase.

(information acquired from @ICEWOLF506) The Double-Barrel can stagger most enemies, scrakes included!
The end.

Another thing, if you melee a scrake, it will interrupt its attack and cause it to pause long enough to put a double barrel in its face without consequence.
