Intro into the Classes
In game there are technically five classes a player can play into and get comfortable with. However, for each class, it changes the setup of the dragon and weapons used in battle.

Now for each class, the five are Aggressor, Ambusher, Marksman, Support, and the Transverse. Each class is dependent on weight and ability of the dragon. For example, An Ogre does well as an Aggressor but does not do well in other classes due to size and being one of the heavy weight dragons. In compairison, a Rage can do well in all four classes due to it's ability, speed and dodging manuvers. Both dragons are examples of the differences weight can be that changes what a dragon can do.
Aggressor

The Aggressor is one class that can fit with any dragon. However, the ones that dominate are the heaviest of the dragons. The Ogre, and Adamasto are the main tanks in game for it. The best build with them are rockets since more times then not you will have to get through the shields of other players. Having a mine along with a coolent is handy as many players will use an ambusher type to combate the aggressor. When coupled with the proper support dragons, An aggressor setup can be a dominating factor in a match. The other dragons that pull this off well with a bit more speed are Tiamat and Marduk. Both dragons should never be underestimated as they can do a lot of damage with their abilities.

The Aggressor is the front line and the one that has to be willing to take the blows while doing a lot of damage to other dragons. When playing as an agressor, you definitely want some kind of support as health can drain very fast and would need time to recover.
Ambusher

The Ambusher is how it sounds, you mainly focus at coming at a target from any open angle. Both Rays, Toxor and Septicod are the best with this. All four dragons have the best manueverability around the map. As an ambusher, (Toxor / Septicod) it is best to use plasma ball as a secondary. Ray and Devil Ray can get away with the use of rockets in this due to cool down comparison to the septicod and toxor. Having to run in and out of the front line is always a must when deciding to go with this type of build. Having duel mines, one mine & one coolant, or double coolent works best with this type of build. Other dragons that can do this are Rage, Fury and Inara due to their speed and turning abilities. All three of those dragons can also do well with rockets.
Using stamina kits with the Ray, Devil Ray, Inara, Rage, and Fury helps in keeping the dragon at top speed in the surprise attacks. Double mining isn't always nessary unless you are in DM or Control Point with these dragons. Having at least a coolant though is recomended since you want to deal as much damage as possible in a mininal amount of time. Being an ambusher means timing it right when to strike and get the enemy when they are focused on another target. As an Ambusher, you can use rail gun but you must keep one thing in mind. You become vulnerable after every shot. If you plan to go that route, have a coolent or use primary weapon to wear down the target. Then use the rail gun to finish them off.
Marksman
This class alone requires a lot of patience and carfully choosing which dragon you want to use. Heavy weight dragons are out of the question as they are the easiest targets with the largest hitbox in game. This includes for all weapons. As a Marksman, you tend to play a duel role, support fire and sniping other dragons down that are unaware that you have them targeted.

Ray and Devil ray do well with it due to thier size. Toxor, Septicod, Inara, Rage and Fury also do very well with markman. The best build is using rail gun and at least one coolant. The rail is one of the highest damaging weapons in game but it also instantly overheats the guns. This is where it is best to be away from the main crossfire from other players. When you are a markman, every shot counts. A missfire can either be a loss of a team mate or end in loosing your dragon due to being unable to shield after. The hitbox for rail is very small on most dragons. It takes time to get use to and practice to get the hang of it.
Support

The Support Class is one of the most important classes in a match. The main duty of a support class is to heal and/or provide support fire for team mates. Best examples are Norra and Inara. Both dragons can do both very well and can be the main dragons healing the team. The other three that are mainly for support are Cronus, Hyperion and Vampire.

All three of these dragons can provide very good support and temporarely distract enemy dragons away from targets low on health. They can also be the ones saving thier team mates from being killed. Rage and Fury can also do the same. As a support, you use any weapon you need in order to provide the support fire for teammates.
Transverse

The Transverse class is a class of it's own. Any weapon can be used and strategy can change based on what is being used in the match. Semedi is one of the best for this due to it's ability steal. It can act as an ogre and be on the front line or it can take a possition as it's predicessor, the Vampire. This is mostly a class based on what the user prefers. Inara, Rage, and Hyperion can also fit into this class. This is mostly due to being able to go from Marksman, to Support and then to an Ambusher type without having to change out weapons.
Summing it up
In all, pending on the dragon; you can play as multiple classes at one time. It really only comes down to the dragon, weapon and secondary carries you are taking into battle. For example, you can be an Inara and be a Marksman and Support at the same time. It really only comes down to what the player is the most comfortable with. Everything mentioned is just the basics on it and nothing advanced.
