General tips
There are some basic rules that help you get the best price for you goods. I finished the base game at 40.000+ gold and I left most of the Skellige loot and some of the Velen locations untouched and maxed out all witcher gear sets (pretty costly). So here are the main Tips with the specific locations for traders to follow.
  • Sell all your loot in cities (Novigrad and Oxenfurt), with the exception of food and drinks.
  • Sell alchemy supplies to the herbalists.
  • Sell armor and glyphs to armorers, alternatively to blacksmiths (slightly worse).
  • Sell weapons and runestones to blacksmiths, alternatively to armorers (slightly worse).
  • Sell horse equipment to armorers or blacksmiths.
  • Sell crafting equipment to Blacksmiths or armorers.
  • Sell food and drinks to inkeeps.
  • Sell miscelaneous stuff (pelts, junk, etc.) to general merchants.
  • Sell books to bookshop or general merchants.
  • Keep at least 10, better 20 of all alchemy and crafting materials. If you need money badly sell some of the stuff you have most of but try to keep a bit of everything.
  • Never sell flawless gems, dimiterium ore / ignots / plate or cured draconid leather. Those are rare and very expensive to buy and you need quite a few for high level witcher gear. Having to buy them back for 5-10 times the price later on is never a good deal.
  • If you run out of rare metals consider disassembling looted armor or weapons instead of selling them.
  • Disassemble jewelry, shells and dimiterium junk at the armorers instead of selling them.
Best places to sell armor, weapons, glyphs, runestones, crafting suppies and horse equipment
Note that there is only a slightly worse price for weapons if you sell them to an armorer and for armor if you sell it to a blacksmith. Most important is that you DO NOT sell armor, weapons, crafting suppies and horse equipment to an armorer or blacksmith outside of Novigrad or Oxenfurt once you have access to either city.

Prices for crafting material are the same for armorers and blacksmiths as long as you take one from the list below. Again, best keep 10 to 20 of all crafting materials and only sell anything beyond that. However, keep any flawless gems, dimiterium and draconid leather (even if the money is tempting, you need them for high level witcher gear and you usually do not find enough of it by just looting). If you have excess dimiterium you can have an armorer make some dimiterium plates which you will need for high level armor. Consider dismantling part of the looted relic gear to gain rare crafting materials you do not already have plenty of from time to time. This saves money in the long run.

The best prices for weapons and runestones, you will get from the blacksmiths in Novigrad and Oxenfurt:

1. Novigrad, Blacksmith on small square south-west of Hierarch Square:

2. Oxenfurt, south-east part of the city

3. Novigrad, near the southern gates Master Blacksmith once you have finished the Quest "Of Swords and Dumplings"

The best prices for Armor and glyphs you will get from the armorers in Novigrad and Oxenfurt:

1. Novigrad, armorer on Hierarch Square:

2. Oxenfurt, on main square

Best places to sell food
The best prices for food and drinks you will get from the Inn at the crossroads in Velen (where you first enter Velen). Note that the Innkeeps is often missing when you get there and you may need to meditate for an hour for him to return.

Best places to sell alchemy equipment
The two best places for selling alchemy supplies are located in Novigrad:

1. Halfling Herbalist

2. NoName Herbalist on Hierarch Square

Best places to sell junk and books
1. The best place to sell junk (pelts, ladders, chandeliers, etc) is a specific merchant in Novigrad on the main square. Since he has a limited amount of crowns you may have to sell some of your junk to the merchants for books described below at 2. (at a bit worse prices).

2. The best place to sell books and parchments are two merchants in Novigrad on the main square. One is located a bit left of the above merchant:

The other one is located at an exit of the place in the book shop:

Happy Looting!

I’d like to add that, pelts and other junk gets the best price in skellige taverns, which gives more for by one or two coins which isn’t much if you don’t sell it in bulks.

I usually go on spikeroog, faroe or kaer trolde selling animals hides to any of the innkeeper is way more profitable than in the city, they each have around 650 crowns to play with so it’s close to the merchants in novigrad.

Finally, the two innkeepers closest to heirarch square also have the same prices as the merchants in the main square and have more money to play around with.

Happy hunting.

You can also sell some junk in the bar/tavern near the main square in Novigrad for the same amount as the merchant at "Best places to sell junk and books" - 1. I'm doing the cow leather farm and both the merchant in the main square and the barman in the bar buys one leather for 42 while others buys for 36 per one. Also the barman is way richer than the merchant.
