Introduction
There are several vehicles throughout the game. but they can be categorized in 2: Military and Civilian.
Because this explanation is as plain as it gets, i'm stil going to explain why: weapons. Military vehicles have weapons on top, while civilian vehicles don't. boom! easy as that!

So. I shall be your writer for this guide. So strap in your seatbelts and grab your guns, because we're going to speed through this!
the "car"
The car is the first vehicle that you get to drive in the game. it's paint scheme is just as limited as other vehicles, with it consisting out of: red, yellow, white and blue. with it's paper-thin armor, 2nd highest land speed in the game(60 mph on a flat road), and great handlng on roads and off-road, this vehicle is good for only a few things:
- barricade
it's HP pool is nothing to brag about, that's for sure, but it can still be useful as a barricade on a bridge or a small road, Assault trucks can't get past it, and neither can anything else. This will give you cover close to your target( person of interest in assassination missions, or the truck in convoy missions) giving you an edge with the right tools for the job.
-Transportation
Getting you from point A to point B seems to be it's other upside. Again: with it having great handling on every ground, and he 2nd highest speed in the game, and the silly driving AI of your enemies, you'll be guaranteed to outrun everything in the jungle areas of the map.

The car spawns very often. may it be near towns, checkpoints, the gun shop or the bus stop.

opinion
My personal opinion about the car is that it sucks. it get outdone by everything, even the things it's good at are outdone by the Assault truck, or the Buggy. So, only pick it when you no other choice. otherwise you'll have much better vehicles to choose from.
The Buggy

The Buggy is faster and more manouverable than the Car, making it a better choice for exploration.
Sadly it's high speed and handleing are traded off by it's armor that has the same protection value as a glass of water.
But honestly, what'd you expect from a vehicle that is more pipe than body?
The only real use I can see for this vehicle is exploration or transport on the outer section of the map aka the desert.

other than that, other vehicles (even the car) are more useful than this heap of scrap. drive this to your closest pond and grab an Assault truck 5 metres away. because this is useless.
the Jeeps
well. so good so far I guess? a bad eastern-europe car and a moving pile of scrap metal.
compared to our previous vehicles, the Jeep Wrangler really is useful for transportation, exploration or even attacking.
with decent speed, handling and armor, this vehicle is one of the best(if not the best) all-rounders.

allthough, it barely compares to it's brother; the Liberty.

the Liberty is the flip-side of the coin, so to speak. it's speed and handling or a bit worse, but it's armor is much stronger than the Wrangler's.
therefore, it's advised to use the Liberty for attacking and the wrangler for transportation or escaping, since the Wrangler has an open top, leaving you vulnerable to enemy fire.

Both versions have a "bling" version aswell, Sporting golden wheels, grill and trim. These versions can be obtained after killing king Nnyere in act 1.
(Thank you to ThirdKeeper for mentioning the fact that the Golden Liberty that the player has access to in act 1 is, in fact, the fastest vehicle in the game. Sorry to not have mentioned that since i wrote this guide.)
The Assault truck
finally. something worth driving in. The Assault truck is without a doubt, the best all-round vehicle in the entire game. it's probably the most common vehicle in the game aswell, spawning near outposts, safehouses, and on the road!

There are barely any downsides to this vehicle. The only one I can think about is that it's quite an "open" vehicle, meaning you'll take quite a few slugs when you're getting shot at. Other than that, there's nothing really wrong with it. Good handling, reasonable speed, great armor, and a mounted gun.
As I've said before, it's probably the most common vehicle. So if your car can't handle the punishment it's taken(which isn't alot), you can kill the driver and gunner without breaking a sweat, and take their car!
Not to mention that in act 2, it can spawn with a M2 50.cal mounted gun, or even a M19 grenade launcher! so, a good assault vehicle all around. definitely a good vehicle to cross the map with.
The Cargo truck
The Cargo truck is a BEAST of a vehicle. damage taking, that is. But, it comes with a big price to pay.
It's amazingly slow, handling is crap, and it has overall no other use than tanking bullets, because an explosion will kill it without any problem.

It's pretty rare in the game. only spawning in a few selected places. Otherwise, it can be obtained by in all 8 of the weapon shop missions.
Another way is during a faction mission in act 2, where it transports medical supplies. other than that, it's almost impossible to find.
DLC vehicles
With the fortunes pack DLC, two new vehicles are added in the game, and these are:
The Utility truck

The Utility truck is a mix between the Assault truck and the Cargo truck. faster and weaker than the cargo truck, but having more firepower than the assault truck. this is without a doubt, the best base-raiding vehicle in the game.

It's great for roads and off-roading, meaning that your enemies will never, ever be safe. And with a standard M2 50.cal gun, not even their vehicles will stand a chance.
The truck can be found at weapon shops and at outposts.
The ATV

(Image is not from far cry 2.)

The ATV..well, i guess this failed motorcycle's stats are even worse than the buggy's, right?
it's speed doesn't compare to the Buggy, and it's HP pool is smaller than my Youtube subscriber count. Plus it doesn't protect you at all, and oversteers quite easily.
Although, it has one trick up it's sleeve: It's small.
Being so small, the ATV can come in nearly every creak and corner the map has to offer, allowing ATV to be at your side 90% of the time. This creates new ways to enter areas that you otherwise would go in alone and risk your ride despawning. it's rather rare, only spawning at bus stops and outposts and maybe a weapon shop if you're lucky.
Boats
In the game we have 2 boats. this being the swap boat and the fishing boat.
swamp boat
The swamp boat is probably the only boat you'll find useful, if you find the fisher's boat at all.
with high speed, but slow acceleration, the boat is slow at the starting line, but can reach high speeds. It also has suprisingly good handling, despite being on water and being air-driven.

It's HP is nothing to brag about though. with it's engine mounted at the back, enemy fire will 90% of the time hit either you, or the engine. it's still the safest way to traverse the waters, though.

fisher's boat

The fisher's boat is the cargo truck of the water. slow, but a tank compared to it's bretheren, or brother in this case. slow, but strong. the "captain' is still protected, but nothing to brag about.
Pros and cons considerd, I'd leave this one at the dock.
Last words
Personally, I dont think the hang glider is useful. it's fun to use for once or twice, but after than you'll get back to ground or even water vehicles, so we won't really talk about that.

Other than that, i had alot of fun creating this guide! And i hope everyone found it useful, or even fun to read.

If there are vehicles you think i forgot, or if you think i forgot to mention something important about a vehicle, leave a comment below!

just after 16 years of playing this game i found out, that the jeep certainly has better offroad capabilities than all others. its suspenion can deal with many weird jumps

Mr. Skull -Yes, you do need it to get to some of the diamond cases.
What's your question ?
The Healing Cow 10 Aug, 2021 @ 3:34am
I came here expressly to get advice on the crappy hang glider. I think I need it to get a diamond.

Thanks for your patience and very sorry for getting anyone's hope up for specific stats.

Full explanation is in the 'Respawns and Vehicles' chapter.

My summation:
"I'm now convinced that the most complete info is contained in the observations reported
in Raiders Vehicle Guide."

- Thanks again for all your work on this subject ! -

I just made a request for the info hoping the author will be able to find it easily. If I don't
hear back within 14 or so I'll start digging myself. Either way, as soon as I have it I'll
message you with everything before I post anything more in my guide. - I try to avoid
creating redundant info on the net - It's a hold over from a time when 'conserving
bandwidth' was important - Thanks so much for the reply - felt pretty stupid about it.

I appriciate your sentiment but dont think that apologizing is necessary :D Lack of sleep does some strange things to the brain, so I fully understand. I'll still change the guide to fit your "reading flow"(I think that's how you described it) tips a bit better. Please update me if you're able to find the hard numbers, though!

Hey, man - Apologies for some nit-picky statements made in text - didn't realize how
obnoxious I sounded.! - Chalk it up to a serious lack of sleep and and a critical lack
of caffine. - Hope you can understand.. You've got a great guide and I'm very grateful
for all the work you put into it.

Bye the way - Those numbers I mentioned are very hard to find - Only serious modders
can find the stats by unpacking the code. They can't just be looked up somewhere - so
no need to apologize for not listing them here, - I'm hoping the the author of 'The almost
complete guide to modding FC2' will help to find them.

- Best Wishes -

Hey, Raider - I just updated to include your guide - working on updating the credits now.

The link is listed under "Respawns" because 'driving' is directly linked to the subject -
(avoiding roads) - I'm sending a friend request just because I have a couple of questions
to ask before completing this part of the project. Thanks if you can - If not, no worries.

Cool?
