Introduction
[/b]

IF YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED THE GAME ALL THE WAY THROUGH YET, I SUGGEST YOU STOP READING THIS GUIDE AT ONCE AND DO SO! Take your time and play the game a couple of times so you can get a sense of the story behind it. Then, when you're ready to get all the achievements, come back and read this guide.

This guide will attempt to quantify the possible responses you can choose throughout the
game, so that you can select the responses to give you the type of score that you're
looking for. The game appears to keep track of something called "Tara Points", which is pretty
straight-forward. Score more points with Tara, and you'll receive a more favorable result
at the end of the game. Conversely, by scoring fewer Tara Points, you'll get a result that
probably isn't too kind.

Most of the responses will either add or subtract from your total of Tara Points. There
are also responses that will do neither. I'll list the possible responses below, along with the point gain or loss and any interesting notes for each.
Possible responses
1. Are you nice to Diane? Y/N

Explain your situation = Y
Kick up a fuss = N

I haven't played the game enough times to determine a specific point value for each of
these responses, and I'm not sure if you start with a certain number of Tara Points at the
beginning of the game or not. However, it does seem like your interaction with the
concierge, Diane, really makes a big difference in your point total. In two scenarios
where I've answered every other question identically except this one, I've seen as much as
a possible 8-point difference in the end result. Bottom line: if you want max points, be
nice to people! Especially Diane. She's just doing her job, after all!

UPDATE: I went back and ran a few more playthroughs - it does appear that the "Diane" decision nets you either 10 Tara points or ZERO.

2. Ben? Ben Campbell, is that you?

Yes, I'm Ben Campbell = 1
I'm sorry, who are you? = 0
No I'm not! Leave me alone! = -1

3. That's awful. I'm so sorry to hear that.

What can you do? That's life right? = -1
It's fine; there are a lot of sales jobs. = 0
I really don't want to let down my companions = 1

4. I hope you're not too busy.

That sounds FISH-tastic! = 0
I've been LONGFIN for some good food = 0
So many seafood restaurants, I may need to MULLET over! = 0
I DOLPHINITELY COD do with some good food! = 0
Yes = 0

That's right. NONE of these responses will affect the way Tara sees you. So be as corny
as you want. Or don't. It doesn't matter.

5. Hey Ben. Let me get this, ok?

Thank you, Tara. I appreciate that! = 1
Let's go halfsies = -1
I insist I pay! = 0

A little surprising that insisting on paying for a meal doesn't get you any points.
Normally, such a thing might be considered gentlemanly or chivalrous, but times change, I
suppose.

6. You'll be happy to know that I still have that pencil case today. I use it to carry my
sketching pencils. I even have it on me now, see?

Grandma will be happy = 1
That's wonderful = 0
You should throw that away! = -1

7. I was just trying to pretend to be cool and stuff, but when you told me that you knew
who I was, it actually made me really happy.

I knew it! = 0
You were already cool! = 1
That's so lame! = -1

8. There are so many, there's even a tour where you get to visit all of them.

I like lighthouses, something romantic about them. = 1
They're an important part of our history = 0
We should knock them all down! We have GPS now! = -1

9. I'm enjoying the moment; let's not try to complicate things with talk about the
present. Okay?

I understand = 0
Let's change the subject = 1
How is the present complicated? = -1

10. I just don't know how I got here!

Comfort her (gently rub her back) = 2
Comfort her (put your arm around her) = 2
Hold her hand = 1
Do nothing = -2

Don't just sit there, fool! Do SOMETHING! The poor girl's a mess, and she needs your support.

11. To think tonight was gonna be the night I finally told her how I felt...

That sucks! = -1
Hong Kong is a cool place! = 0
Just try to enjoy the moment = 1

Seems a little lame that, when sharing in a moment of solidarity (the whole situation
sucks), your answer in that regard actually loses you a point instead of gains you one. Then again, remember that Tara was just content in enjoying the moment with you in the present. Perhaps she learned that from you in the past?

12. Why didn't you kiss me that night?

What was the point? You were leaving... = 0
I was scared you'd reject me. = 0
You were vulnerable; I didn't want to take advantage... = 1
What makes you think I felt that way about you? = -1

13. You loved me in such a way, didn't you?

Kiss her = 2
Tell her you loved her = 1
Do nothing = -1

No being neutral on this one!

14. Are you angry?

I could never be angry at you = 2
Hug her = 2
Hold her hand = 1
Do nothing = -2

Again, there's no zeros on this one. Fortunately, you have a few ways to gain some more points with Tara here.

15. Before I knew it he was going to strip joints, taking cocaine and even hiring prostitutes regularly.

What a pig! = 1
Typical Wall Street investment banker! = 0
Stay silent = -1

Today's lesson, kids: Going to strip joints, taking cocaine, and hiring prostitutes is a sure-fire way to lose Tara Points!
Ending(s)
So, now it's just you and Tara, alone at "Sunset Point" or wherever it is on Martha's Vineyard. You now have the following options:

Kiss her
Take your leave

By this time, your Tara Points total is already set in stone. Depending on how many points you accumulated, and which choice you select here, you'll receive one of the following endings:

1. Kiss her (you were nice to Diane)

If you fail to score MORE THAN 16 Tara Points, you won't get the option to ask Tara to run away with you and live happily ever after, nor will you be able to tell her to go back to her womanizing husband either. She'll just shut you down after the kiss (politely, of course). It'll be awkward, but you'll part on good terms, though you'll never hear from her again. On the ferry back to Falmouth, however, you'll meet up with Diane, who did you a huge solid and got Mr. Callahan to sign the contract for you, even though she couldn't reach you on your crappy pre-paid phone. You'll take her out to dinner (hopefully a nice place, you cheapskate!) to repay her for her kindness. You'll keep your job and have a nice badge to remember that time when you were saved by the (concierge's) bell.

2. Kiss her (you were rude to Diane)

The only way you can get this ending is by being rude to Diane the concierge in the beginning. If you were, then she won't try to save your behind by getting Mr. Callahan to sign the contract for you. Also, you'll only get this ending if you fail to score at least 16 Tara Points. So, no girl, no contract, no job, and no company. Plus, people think you're a real jerk as well, and you have the badge to prove it!

3. Kiss her, then say, "Tara run away with me, I love you!"

If you scored MORE THAN 16 Tara Points (which isn't terribly difficult to do), you'll have the option, after kissing her, to ask her to run away with you. If you scored really well (over 21), she'll agree to go back to Scotland with you. Oh, sure, her husband will re-nege on the contract, your company will go bankrupt, and you'll lose your job, but you'll both land on your feet and live ... happily ever after!

4. Kiss her, then say, "Tara run away with me, I love you!"

So, if you scored MORE THAN 16 and LESS THAN 22 Tara Points, then you've done good. Just, not good enough, according to Tara. She'll say she can't throw away her marriage, etc., but it really means that you didn't do enough to steal her heart away. Which, if you firmly believe in the institution of marriage, could be a good thing - not breaking up someone's marriage, that is. So, you lose the girl, and your job, but at least you tried, right?

5. Kiss her, then say, "Tara, you should really go back to your husband"

If you did really well with Tara (MORE THAN 21 points), and kissed her, but you foolishly chose this option, then you've truly shot yourself in the foot. Tara will be upset with you and ask you why, after all the playful flirting you two did, you didn't take it all the way with her. By being the responsible one in this scenario, you'll never know how things turned out with Tara and her husband, but you will know what it's like to be unemployed. Yeah, not much to get out of this except a shiny achievement badge...

6. Take your leave

If you decide to act like a gentleman and take your leave of Tara, instead of kissing her, the two of you will end the day on good terms. Tara will convince Bobby to sign the contract for you, thus saving the company and making you a hero. You'll still be able to keep in touch with Tara, and wish her the best in couples' counseling with her husband. Or, maybe you won't. Sadly, the story ends here, so you'll never know what might have been with you and Tara, but you do get the achievement for being a spiffy guy!

That's it. I hope you enjoyed this guide (my very first!) Please feel free to leave any comments or suggestions below, and I'll try to revise the guide where appropriate.

Hi @21stcenturyjedi , tried again with your earlier guide and it finally works for me, thanks a lot!

I reinstalled the game and looked at the files again. All the values still match up to what I wrote in the guide. You get a maximum of 16 points based on your responses to Tara, which is why being nice to Diane in the beginning is so important - it's the only way to earn enough Tara points for endings 3 and 5.

I ran a few playthroughs quickly, starting with answering all decisions for max Tara points value and changing one answer each time so that the total score would be one less each time. I was nice to Diane each time, which I believe adds 10 points to your final score.

Turns out that you simply need to get a score of 11 from the decisions listed in the guide. This will put you at 21 points exactly, assuming the Diane decision is worth 10 points or 0. Change some more answers to get your score lower than 11 if you like, but it must be between 7 and 11 for you to get ending 4.

I've updated the guide to clarify the point divisions a little better.

Hi @21stcenturyjedi , I am also stuck with Ending 4, but when I followed your guide, it will still lead me to ending 3. I have counted the points that you have mentioned in your guide, if I were to go with all the positive options, I will get 15 instead of 21, so instead I will keep getting ending 3 instead of 4.

I have also tried going for neutral, but end up getting ending 1, or if I select all neutral with a slight positive, I still end up with ending 3. May I know what were the selections that you chose? Thanks!
