How to Auto-Skip the Launcher and Logos
By Olde
This guide will show you how to automatically bypass the opening logos and the game launcher itself. Yeah, you could just click or press Enter upon starting the game every time, but this is for the people who want to be efficient about their laziness.

Skipping the Game Launcher
In 2015, Rebellion added a game launcher to AvP. This requires you to choose either Steam servers or GoG-Steam crossplay servers. Unfortunately, the crossplay servers are always barren and, in fact, far inferior to those on Steam. Some people might want to simply bypass the launcher feature entirely, so if that's the case, this is for you.

Let's say you only ever want to open the game through Steam servers (I know this defeats the purpose of the Steam-GoG crossplay, but let's face it, no one's ever on the GoG servers and also, they're very unstable). Here are two ways to do it:

Method 1 (EXTREMELY EASY)

  • Right-click AvP Classic in Steam library, click Properties, click Command line.
  • Type in the following (with quotes): "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Aliens versus Predator Classic\bin\Avp_Classic.exe" %command%
  • If you saved your game to a drive other than C:\, obviously type that in instead.

Method 2 (MODERATELY EASY)

  • Navigate to your Aliens versus Predator Classic folder (right-click in Steam library, click Properties, click the Local Files tab, then click Browse Local Files).
  • Open the "bin" folder.
  • Copy avp.exe.
  • Exit the "bin" folder and next open the "launcher" folder.
  • Rename AvpGoldLauncher.exe to AvpGoldLauncherORIGINAL.exe.
  • Paste avp.exe inside the "launcher" folder.
  • Rename avp.exe to AvpGoldLauncher.exe.
Now whenever you click Play in Steam for AvP Classic, it will automatically start up with the .exe using Steam servers.

The same works if you only want to open the game through Crossplay servers. In that case, copy the avp.exe from the "bin_crossplay" folder.
Skipping the Fox/Rebellion Logos
We all know that opening Fox Interactive + Rebellion logo video with the ear-splitting sound effect that we always skip through every single time we play the game. Well, I decided to make a way to auto-skip it so it won't even show up. Simply download the file below and add it to your FMVs folder to make it automatically jump straight to the menu with the green background after the black-and-white "Aliens versus Predator" copyright image.

LINK: http://avpunknown.com/avpclassic/files/fox-reb_logo_skip.zip
  • Navigate to your Aliens versus Predator Classic folder (right-click in Steam library, click
  • Properties, click the Local Files tab, then click Browse Local Files).
  • Open the "FMVs" folder.
  • Rename logos.bik to logosORIGINAL.bik.
  • Open the .zip file, open the FMVs folder, and extract the logos.bik file to your FMVs folder.
How to Replace the Opening Logos to Whatever You Want
Okay, this is good for some laughs. You can replace the opening Fox/Rebellion logos video with a video of whatever you want. This will require a bit of modding to some degree so if you're too lazy, just skip this part.

First you'll obviously need a video. Download one or make one. Next you'll probably want to trim it. Use a video editing program like Sony Vegas or Adobe Premier. I guess Windows Movie Maker might work, too. Your video dimensions should be 480x360.

Once you have your video, you'll need to convert it to a .bik. Download Rad Game Tools from here[www.radgametools.com] and install it. Once installed, run the program, select your video, and click Bink it! on the lower left side. It should create a Bink file (.bik) of the video. Now all you have to do is move it to your Aliens versus Predator Classic\FMVs folder and title it logos.bik and boom, you have a new startup video.

But that's not all, folks! You know that black and white copyright screen that says "Aliens versus Predator" before the logos start? You can change that to any static image you want, too. To do that, simply follow my guide here. Your image will need to be 640x480 and you'll need to replace the Copyright.RIM file in Tex37.FFL (in the fastfiles folder). The game is programmed to load up whatever Copyright.RIM image you have in that fastfile and pause for a second before loading up the logos.

I also have more guides on modding, the next most relevant one showing how to make a custom menu background. That's all I can think of at the moment. Hope this helps!

For anyone wondering, skipping launcher still works but you have to copy all the other dll files from "bin" to "launcher"

The game's source code always specifies to revert back to 640x480 at the main menu. We could theoretically change it, but it would be a completely different .exe at that point. And of course we'd need the game's source code, which Rebellion hasn't released.

I would like not to have this 640x480 resolution at the main menu. Hate when games do that. But you said Its not possible to change It.
