Where to shoot the T-62.
By Bogs
All those new shiny T-62's giving you trouble? I have had my share of frustration, but if you know where to shoot them, you can easily kill them even without post war shells.

Pros and Cons of the T-62.
If you know the tank you are up against fighting, then your chances of winning the battle are greatly increased.

Pros:
+ Good gun/ ammo.
Do not trade blows against a T-62, because you have no clue on what ammo it has loaded. You will most likely lose if you underestimate the main strength of the T-62.
+ Decent mobility.
As with all Soviet MBT's, it has a powerful diesel engine and wide tracks to give it good mobility for it's weight.
+ Good turret traverse (For Soviet MBT standards).
Not much to say here, besides it's gun handling is an improvement over the T-54 series.
+ Low profile.
It's easy to stage an ambush in a T-62, thanks to it's low profile and relatively small turret.
-/+ Thick and sloped hull armor.
This can be a Strength, but also a weakness. By that, is I mean that sloped armor can save you but also kill you. It greatly decreases the amount of usable room in the tank, resulting in an extremely cramped fighting compartment. If your hit by a single HEAT-FS/APDS shell, it could one shot you. On the plus side, outdated WW2 guns will be unable to penetrate your frontal hull armor.

Cons:
- Relatively thin turret armor (For T5 MBT standards)
Not much to say here, the armor is not much of an improvement (And in some ways even worse) than the T-54 tanks.
- Slow reload. 15.7 seconds is relatively sluggish for an MBT. Keep in mind, the M60/60A1 has a reload of 10.8, the Chieftain 10.0, and Leopard of 9.3 seconds.
- Thin gun barrel.
This might sound odd, but the armor on the barrel for the T-62 is really thin. It is more prone to being destroyed than other MBT's.
- As usual, absolutely horrible gun depression that curses Soviet tanks.
6 degrees of gun depression is terrible. Not much to say.

Where to shoot the T-62.
Most people instantly jump to the conclusion that the T-62 is "Unkillable". This is pretty dumb, because IMHO, the T-62 is actually easier to kill than the T-54.

Pictures will be added Soon

If you are facing a T-62 from the front, the following places are where I recommend you to shoot it:

+ If using a 128mm gun, or similar gun of large caliber, load an high explosive round and shoot directly shoot under the gun barrel. This will hopefully cause shrapnel to fly down into the roof of the tank, into the ammo.

+ If using a post war tank with APDS/ HEAT-FS rounds that can penetrate the hull armor, shoot to the left side of the front. This is where the fuel and ammo is stored.

+ If using a post war tank with APDS/ HEAT-FS rounds and the T-62 is hulled down, shoot the cheeks closed to the center of the barrel. The armor is thinnest, and if you are lucky, you wont hit the curved parts further away from the center. Shoot to the right to hit the Gunner and Commander. Shoot to the left and you might set off the ammo. (Keep in mind, the ammo there is a secondary spot and the player might not have loaded enough ammo to fill that spot)

+ If you have the option to shoot the side of the T-62, shoot slightly above the 4th roadwheel from the front. This is where most of the ammo is stored in the tank.
Finishing words.
Hopefully this guide taught you how to effectively take down a T-62.

But when facing one, always remember a few things:

- It's gun CAN and probably WILL oneshot you, avoid getting hit at ANY costs. I cannot stress this enough, the T-62 was built from the ground up to engage enemy MBT's.

- If you are 100% sure an enemy T-62 has just fired, it's time to make your move. The T-62 has the slowest reload of any T5 MBT, as far as I can tell.

- And please, don't call the T-62 OP only because of it's gun. That is nonsense, thats like calling a T-34 OP because of it's wide tracks.

Always remember when fighting in war thunder, not just fighting T-62's. Remember that all the enemy can see is your armor and gun, they have no clue what ammo you have, crew skills, repairs, or anything else. The same goes for you. You cant always see the inside of an enemy tank in battle, so never assume that just because your ally shot an enemy tank that the enemy lost their gunner. Only make judgements from what you do to an enemy, such as only driving out to flank them if you know that your shot took out their gunner. The only time you should pull a dangerous move is if you are directly talking to your allies (Which is always a good idea)
But of course, this is just what I do. Do what you think is best.

As always, have a good day
