Stage 1: Anger

Anger is generally the beginning stage of taking your first steps into the world of Dark Souls. It is a difficult first stage to overcome and many do not make it past this point. Those who are determined to persevere meet this stage head on. When faced with anger, do not let it cloud your vision as it does so many others.
You may be able to harness it and use it your advantage. This generally compliments strength builds as the nature of a strength build is overcoming your enemies with crushing force. With all this said it is no surprise that a strength build is better for beginners as they are quite straight forward and much tankier.

Steel yourself and do not let this stage consume you, lest you become one of the angered souls doomed to post on forums about how the game is too hard.
Stage 2: Sorrow

Sorrow lasts much longer than anger, and is usually the point in which someone may set aside the game for a long perriod of time rather than quit the game all together.
A soul drowned in sorrow may see their performance drop drastically advancing the rate at which depression grows.

You may fall victim to this emotional stage if you are:
  • Stuck on a boss
  • Stuck in a certain area
  • Dying to invaders constantly
  • A mage build
  • Fat rolling
To avoid these you might want to consider engaging in jolly co-operation! Pride plays a big roll in many of the experiences of Dark Souls players. And overcoming that pride may allow you to overcome your sorrow. And remember, you help others when you help yourself!
Stage 3: Acceptance

Death and failure is inevitable and accepting that is one of the most important things about becoming an exceptional Dark Souls player. In this bleek world many unkindled find it difficult to hold onto hope. However, we all must remember that there is always an end of the road, an end of the game.
In addition to accepting your eventual death and possible loss of 100,000 souls to some random invader when all you want to do is progress. You must accept who you are; find the build for you. Many make the mistake of creating a build that they may think of as powerful from an outside view, but cannot grasp it in-game. Start with a comfortable build that you personally know you will quickly learn.
The phrase, "practice makes perfect" while cliche, has never been more true with Dark souls in mind. The game was not meant to be beaten in a day, you do not have to rush through an area. Analyze each area, each enemy, each piece of equipment you hold.

Become the best you can be, and only through acceptance can you achieve that.
End Note

i never got sorrow as a mage build, especially after getting the ball rolling with orbeck. i was even oneshotting invaders by the end of it all. assuming i got a hit in, then id use something like preachers arm or moonlight sword
