Introduction
We shall keep this very short and sweet. I will be placing my personally collected knowledge about the game here for others who may be in need of a different view. I hope this is helpful and will remove your need to search. I am obviously not the only person who has collected this information, and I do not claim to be unique in my findings.

If you have found this information useful, please rate, give a like, comment, and/or favorite.

Before The Journey and Some Basics
Prepping for the near future
Get "The 7 Wonders of Phantom Isle" Trophy -in the "Achievements" section; before the story-line truly begins you will be offered a tutorial stage TAKE IT!!. In this stage you will find a unique weapon called "Snakish" that does not appear in the game after this point. The "Snakish" isn't an amazing weapon later on, but in the beginning it will save you some trouble. That plus the "Change Book" and the "Bottlemail" you unlocked getting the trophy will put you at an advantage early on.

How do I get the sword
Attaining the sword is the same as collecting any other item from a battlefield. You must confine a phantom to it and then it must survive until it's removed. It will not always be successful if the percentage is below 100%. Bottlemails have a 100% capture rate; so don't forget your glassy friends!.

OH NO!! My phantom/monster/item was O.B'd/Killed
During Gameplay this WILL happen, but what do we do about it? If your phantom/monster/item has been O.B.'d then your in luck because it only means that you will have to resummon them to phantom isle!

Important Note: Marona CANNOT be O.B.'d

If it so happens that you are killed, you will need to return to the healer and pay the price.
Unfortunately there is another outcome to this. If it is killed and then dies to Over Damage (damage done to the body after knock out) you will have to sacrifice an item to bring them back.

Dark Points
Alright so.. you have a phantom and... oh no you killed another of your phantoms in the crossfire or intently. Doing this will add one to the character "Dark" counter. These "Dark Points" affect your characters by making them bigger threats to your own characters by increasing the damage to allies. This doesn't seem to affect Marona or Ash. There is a special purpose for this; upon reaching 100 Dark Points your character has a random chance to receive the "Blsphm" title. It is horrible title making your character mostly useless. However, you do learn the special skill "Dark Eberos". This skill costs 35 mana and is fairly powerful. These can be removed by the Granny class randomly or just take the tile and give it to someone else. :)

SPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED
Speed is a very important stat in this game, more so than in most games. It can completely change the flow of battle in one move. As an example bottlemails are very fast to begin with because we want them off the field ASAP. Now we equip that bottlemail with a grass type item and watch the speed go even higher allowing us to steal that item fast. We can even increase it further by confining it to an object that raises speed!

What if we want to go slower?
Fear not! this can easily be arranged by equipping something like a rock or an axe -these items naturally lower speed. Just like speed, we can also confine to speed lowering items! We have an extra option for this one as well. If you really REALLY want to slow your character down...... pick them up with an ally. It will completely negate their turn until they are unequipped.

Other Notables
In order to have the ability to confine a phantom in battle, they MUST be summoned on Phantom Isle. There are 50 slots that can be filled with phantoms/monsters/items.
Phantom and Monster Unlock Methods
Each type of Humanoid phantom is obtained by killing 1 of the respective phantom; Monsters however require that you kill 20. All normal phantoms and monsters can be retrieved inside "Dungeons". I will be listing a few places for obtaining the monsters.

Phantom Isle Utility Phantoms
Some phantoms have use outside of battle. I call them "Utility Phantoms". Some of them have a second purpose when not used in battle.

Utility Phantoms

Dungeon Monk: Allows the creation of random dungeons for a fee
Fusionist/Putty Shaman: Combines items into a single item containing purchased abilities and mana; Randomly gathers mana

A Brief on Skills
Typing
Skills in this game are broken into 3 primary types and then into elements and stats from there.
  1. Passive- they cannot actively be used but are always on.
  2. Active- these can be chosen and used -provided the normal conditions are met. i.e.. enough sp
  3. Restricted- This is a special typing that only has a few occurrences, these are the ones like "Confine" where it is either restricted to a single character or to a certain situation like "Return".
Target

Skills can also have extra effects like the ones above.

Statting
HP
ATK
INT
RES
SPD
Skills will also have a stat modifier which is shown in the image. The easiest way to look at it is the higher that stat is, the more damage it will modify....more damage or special effect chance....

Elementing
Each skill will also have a elemental typing which will be shown on its in its description. The elements are easily defined with Fire, Ice, Wind, Null. Each character has a base resistance which is shown in the status screen. You can increase resistance by rerolling the character in the creation screen before making it and or adding spiritual experience... for a premium.

SP Types

Energy
Magic
Nature
Cosmic
Status
Love
There are several SP types -type shown on icon- that apply to these skills, and each character is better with different ones as shown in the status screen with a letter grade. These SP pools level up as the skill type is used represented by the amount of SP shown in a number beside the icons.

Additonal Note:
Each character can hold a maximum of 32 skills; this includes Passive, Active, and Restricted.
You can equip an item or another character to use other abilities!
A character can learn the skill of a title by using it until level one.
"Return" is the only transferable skill that cannot be forgotten.
Some skills only come from titles or special weapons... i.e."Dark Eberos" can only be acquired through the "Blsphm" title or the sword.
The importance of Fusion
OMG!!!! I wish I had known this the first time I played!!!
To put it simply, this is the second best way to increase the stat's of a piece of gear -the end all being applying a high ranked powerful title. This is the only way to increase a character's max level. It is also an extremely affective way to gather and stack mana on a single object. Skills are even transferred through it! It is the most useful mechanic in this game!

Making the best of Fusions
In order to truley utilize it, you should know how it works:
  • For stats it will take the secondary item (if it is stronger) and allow you to increase the original item's stats by a percentage based on the compatibility (F-SSS) and the differance in strength. This is most easily taken advantage of by attaching an extremely weak title to the thing you want to make stronger, and attaching a very powerful title to the sacrificed character/item. This creates a much larger gap in stats and thus a bigger bonus to them. Just select "Equip Ability Up" and/or "Confine Ability Up" in the fusion confirmation for items. Don't foget to give the fused character a good title to see those boosted stats!!

  • For skills, provided the skill is transferable -there are some that aren't-, you simply choose the reciever and then the giver. Provided you have enough mana it is a straight forward process of selecting the skill and purchasing it in the fusion confirmation.

  • OR you could just straight confine them to increase the mana and max level on the character!

Another powerful benefit
Fusion can also be used to increase SP totals! Take the character that has low SP and have them absorb one with higher SP.!!! It's that simple!

Important Note: Leveling the fusionist decreases the mana costs!!!!!!!!!!!
Reincarnation
This is the process of sending a character back to level one. It is performed by bringing a slain phantom to the healer and using a "Changebook" or "Egg" item when bringing them back to life.

Important Note: Marona cannot Reincarnate.

Obtaining an Egg or Changebook
In the second fight with Walnut on a secluded island there will be an Egg guarded by a mimic. In order to get to it, you will have to throw Marona over halfway so that she will spawn on the other island. Then attach your favorite bottlemail and viola! In the third fight with Walnut a Changebook will be in the place where the Egg was. There's also the Stamp Rally.
Island of Evil: Mortality's End

On Phantom Isle you can receive a Changebook by getting on top of the tree beside the house.
Phantom Isle

So now what?
Once we have the Character and a reincarnation item we can start them over with an increased max level. The new max level is character level plus item level. So if we want it to be 9999, our numbers must add up to this or higher. The stronger you are when you reincarnate, the stronger the new character will be.
Items
Most weapons and random objects will be considered Items
While playing through the game you will run into countless items that can be equipped, used to harvest mana, fused, and upgraded. All of these things can be done to phantoms and monsters as well -with the exception of not being able to equip phantoms and monster to phantoms and monsters on Phantom Isle. It is important to remember that items will take up some of your 50 population if left on the ground. They can be stored and resummoned as needed just like phantoms/monsters.

Why shouldn't i just store them and have 50 phantoms/monsters?
To be honest there isn't a reason. You could easily do that, but in all honesty you wont need 50 characters. Which means you can fill that remaining population with mana producing items!
That may not seem super helpful....., but it can add up quickly.
Titles
Titles are extra additions to the names of monsters, phantoms, items, and dungeons that can add skills and increases or decreases stats. These titles can be swapped around with a "Titlist" if you have a spare title.

How do I get a title?
Well you have two real options. Develop a dungeon and beat it to obtain the title -OR pick up the item with the title you want, bring it to Marona, and answer yes.

The most important title
"Failure", yes you read that right "Failure" is the single most useful title in the game. It is used to make dungeons easier and to increase benefits of fusion.

I want a good title
Well you have some nice options. You can search for the title in countless stages on countless items and then steal it. However, you could just refresh the shop constantly and then buy your title. No? those don't make you happy? Well you could always just use Marona's create option and refresh it until you find a title you like and create the character. There is still another option, but this one is time consuming. The option of putting a title on a dungeon and then leveling it up...over..and over.... and over. This last method has major advatages in that you can also learn skills on the title!

Alternate Uses
There are two special stats on a title that I would like to point out. They have a direct association with how much experience and mana you receive. Just keep an eye on these if your having issues or want to increase your efforts.

Special Titles
"Unliked" and "Blsphm" can only be obtained randomly with Dark Point accumulation -100 or more for "Blsphm".

Additional Note: There are many, many, MANY different titles, both bad and good. Some of these titles offer special skills. You can teach these to your character by leveling the skill up one time.
Additional Note 2: To gain more spaces for titles you must complete dungeons or sacrifice items to Marona.
Skill Learning Titles
I can't say this is all of them, but I believe it to be a fair enough list.

Dungeons
A dungeon is a special battlefield with a randomly chosen title and attributes created and purchased from the "Dungeon Master" phantom while he is summoned on Phantom Isle. It is also the only place you can make titles stronger. Progressing the floors strengthens the title with every floor.

  2. Floor number: The max number of floors within the dungeon
  3. Size: How large or small the battlefield map will be

  7. Main Object: Defines which Item will litter the battle field
  8. Item Prohibited: Restricts the spawning of your equipment

Dungeon Random Events
Every so often, usually after 10 floors, a special floor will pop up with unique properties. These stages can yield increased mana, bordeaux , and experience. They are not always so awesome as some can hold increased enemy levels, doubled enemy level, boss enemies, two factions fighting each other, all creatures that are on the map begin poisoned (including Marona), a neutral faction and yourself against the floors enemy, only one type of item, and empty floors!

Escaping Dungeons
In order to escape the dungeon you have two choices.
  • Finish all the floors inside the dungeon
  • Use the Return skill that is found on the Dungeon Monk or learned from a Dungeon Monk in fusion

Remember that classes can be unlocked early in dungeons, and some ONLY exist in dungeons
Additional Note: To gain more spaces for titles you must complete dungeons.
Leveling/Mana'ing Locales
The story-line of Phantom Brave can be beaten without any major grinding needs, but the rest of the game will require much higher levels. This is a list of grinding spots. The final grinding areas are within dungeons... I will provide a few images to avoid confusion

Dungeon Manipulation
Once you have a Titlist and a Dungeon Monk you will be able to use a very nice method. The idea is fairly simple:
  • Obtain the "Failure" title or any other horrible title -this will severely weaken the creatures in the dungeon.
  • Create a dungeon with higher level enemies than your characters, double or more is possible.
  • Attach the title to the dungeon and begin the leveling/mana'ing! Be sure to steal items and kill items too because the title Doesn't affix to them!!! so they are still super strong!!! :)
If you really want it to go fast then max out big bang and experience riser!!

Monetopia: Peaceful Hill
The object here is to kill everything with the exception of the Old Man and the two Scrabbits he is buffing with "Level + 1." The reason for this is for every turn the two scrabbits will each get a level so it is advised that you kill one off or be prepared for both. The method is to kill off everything else and then allow the to level as high as you want. After reaching the decided goal level, suggested 9999, throw an item between them and summon a titlist who will activate big bang upon confining. Provided your Bomb -Person with Big Bang (learned from fusions with a Titlist)- can do about 60 damage to each Scrabbit, you will reap the reward for killing two level 9999's. Be warned, this is a huge time investment if you raise them both with a moderate chance of failure. Raising only one is a much more beneficial method and faster....

Bamboo Co.: Camboo Co. 24F
This is just a personal favorite of mine because of the set up... It's like bowling if you have the right skills! -Elegant Slash is my favorite for it- Access to it is short so enjoy it while you can!!!

Another Option
If you already have a high level weapon or phantom.... you can just kill them over and over on Phantom Isle and collect mana and experience for the person and weapon used.... it is expensive, but it does make leveling Marona easier.

Another Another Option
Once you have a strong phantom you should summon it first and then usse marona as a weapon. She levels fairly easily this way.!!
Another Marona
What? is this....
This is a parallel reality where different decisions were made. You can start the game in this mode, but it is not recommended. It is unfortunate that this mode is much shorter as well. You CAN new game + both into and out of this mode. You will keep these phantoms and lose new game special phantoms if you go into new game + for the main story.

Why should I care?
You should care because this mode will open a complete set of phantoms that are otherwise unattainable! If you play it as your second run.... the difficulty will be a joke..Still worth the phantoms and story line.
Divine Weapon Quest
Though this isn't a mentioned quest, some have taken it upon themselves to hunt. The Divine Sword is a very powerful weapon found at the bottom of a 99 floor dungeon with a minimum level of 200, and it must be completed WITHOUT LEAVING.

This is a daunting task on it's own, but it is worse than you think. Not only do you have to do it without leaving,... you also have to hope for a boss floor...... AND hope that the boss spawns with it!

Recommended method for attaining:
  1. Develop a few high level Bottlemails (I personally reccomend ATLEAST 5k in level with great steal titles).
  2. Create a Level 1 Dungeon Monk
  3. Have the Dungeon monk make a dungeon with similar stats to these
    Level >= 19
    Floor >= 85
    Size = Small
    Number of Enemies = Few
    Ground = User Choice
    Main Enemy = User Choice
    Main Object = User Choice
    Item Prohibited = None
  4. Attach a Rank 7 title (any title were the bonuses naturally average to 30)
  5. SAVE

With the above steps you will make a dungeon capable of spawning the weapon on the boss... It is still not guaranteed to spawn. This is a very tedious, irritating, and sometimes infuriating task.... I hope that RNG is nice to you... I know these were the conditions on the Wii, and I believe they were on PS2 as well....

Can I get the Magenta Core?
Yes, yes you can..... good luck though!
  • Throw anything to the side of the arena,...as close as you can
  • Pick up the item giving "Resistance" and use Gothic Chant on the other item -and if you can get a hold of the dark title you can try on the level 2000, also attainable from a high level "Bone"
  • Confine to it

Just like the Magenta Core, there are several other items that are difficult to steal. A few mentionables are the Divine Sword, Catnip Cane, Remote, etc.... All stealable...
