How To Import Save Games + Delete Save Games
By Pegasis-Vera (She/They)
You want multiple "Memory Cards" of data? Well, now you can! I will go over how to move saves within data files and delete them all together! Or if you're lazy and don't want to play the game properly or just want a completed Professional save, then I can show you how to do that too... And no, I am not translating this. Just want to throw that out there now...

How To: Delete Save File
If you're like me, you'll have countless useless saves that you'll probably never load and will probably forget about all together... But as stated before, this will help you delete those annoying saves...

So to start off, you must turn off cloud saving. This will prevent Steam from being confused and dropping a backup of your save into the space we want the save to be gone to make a new one.

Next go find your the "remote" folder for the game. This should be located at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\Unique player id\254700\remote" The Unique player id should be easy to find if you only have one account on your PC, as it will be your id only in the userdata folder.

In the remote folder there should be a file called "savegame00.sav". You should make a backup of this save game as this will remove ALL saves and you will lose all Mercenaries progress, Professional completion, Separate Ways completion, and Assignment Ada completion. And believe me, this is REALLY annoying if you've spent the time like me to go through all this (off topic but, I never actually completed Professional, Assignment Ada, nor Mercenaries, I had someone else beat those for me as those are hard).

Now that you've removed the file from the folder (or deleted it), enter the game. It should now tell you that you need to create a new save. Create a new save and enter the load screen, or just look at the menu. It should now say there are no saves present, and the menu should be the incomplete game background.
How To: Import Save File
To import someone's save file, you do the exact same thing as before.

Turn Steam Cloud off.

Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\Unique user id\254700\remote

Remove "savegame00.sav".

Add other "savegame00.sav".

I don't know if you can add another save file named "savegame01.sav" but if you want, you can try that and tell me in the comments if it worked or broke the game.
Changes To Guide
If I have any edits to the guide, I will post them here. Don't worry, this won't be a very long thing, as the guide is already pretty much complete...

  • Removed File Edit section. This was a section that could break any save and it's very rare to delete a couple lines of code and in turn delete one save file without corrupting the full thing...

So cloud sync can revert it, but usually Steam offers to let you choose if you'd rather use your current save or the one on cloud.

Thank you kindly, stranger. It's great to be able to restart this amazing game. I deleted my old save file, and created a new one. What would happen if I turned cloud sync back on? Would it revert to my old file? I am already a couple hours into the normal difficulty. Thank you! :LeonRE4:

I admittedly don't know. This was several years ago when I made the guide, and I don't have very much experience in RE5.

Hello, I know that the guide is for RE4, but I tried to follow it also for RE5, I located the correct folder, only when I start the game it tells me that the saves are corrupt, does anyone know if there is an official way to convert them?

Look for a guide in RE8, not in RE4.

any way to do this with re8?

@Mugiwara If you're trying to use somebody else's save file, you have to convert it first so that the game will think you made it yourself. If you don't, the game sees that other person's Steam ID in the file and just deletes it.

Here's a guide which should show you how you can do that. It's not hard.

when I tried installing someone's save, it didn't work. Now I have to restart, what do I do so it works? When I start up the game it says no save file located. No videos on youtube talk about this.

"I don't know if you can add another save file named "savegame01.sav" but if you want, you can try that and tell me in the comments if it worked or broke the game."
You cannot. The user's ID is embedded in the file in a couple ways, with one of those ways probably being something like a hash, which is difficult to forge.

I made a tool [nathanjrollins.github.io] which will convert saves for you, though. You can run anyone else's save file through that and it should modify it to appear as though you created it yourself legitimately (:
