TF2 Competitive: Borneo Callouts
Av Mega Bibarel och 4 medverkande
There's a serious lack of information for Borneo callouts, pushes, and holds. I decided to rectify this. These are the callouts used by my team, the kOmrades.

Please note that these are a pretty extensive list of callouts. You should feel free to omit some or even divide them up - or invent new ones as you need. Best of luck, mercenary!

Guide written by Gray, captain of kO, with callouts named by various team members. Last updated on 27 August 2021.

Blu Spawn to 1st Point

We're now looking from Blue spawn, up toward the first point. As with the rest of the guide, I will use left/right in relation to how things appear in the images.

  • Hillside: Everything from the arrow sign up to just below Porch [not pictured], on the right side of the map.
  • Shack: The small building just to the right of the tracks below Hillside, containing a small health kit.
  • Crossing: The connector between Hillside and Watchtower.
  • Watchtower: On the left, the building with an open porch and health/ammo within.
  • Fence: To the far left, behind Watchtower.

  • Watchtower: On the right in this image. It's a large house with health and ammo inside.
  • High Ground: The place with the rocks and the large ammo box, which is closer to the point than Watchtower.
  • Crossing: Connects Watchtower and Hillside.
  • Hillside: On the left side of this image, climbing up toward Porch.
  • Porch: The outer part of the house that holds the point, overlooking Hillside.

  • Porch: The outermost part of the house, including the porch and the room with ammo and health.
  • Point: It's the capture point. Mostly included for reference.
  • Crates: The inner part of the house, which extends toward what will be the second blue spawn.
1st Point to 2nd Point
  • Ladder: On the far left, a small ladder that can be used to jump onto the point without going up Bridge.
  • Trench: Under the bridge, extending out below Jenkin.
  • Bridge: The bridge that the cart rolls on, going up to the point.
  • Healthrock: Not technically pictured in this image, but it's the low ground behind Jenkin and on the right side of the tracks in this image. Named for the rocks and the medium health pack nearby.
  • Jenkin: The large building that overlooks Bridge, with the, well, Jenkin logo on the side.
  • Dropdown: As you move out of Crates, there is a brief open area with a small cliff, just before you reach Jenkin. This is Dropdown.

  • Concrete: Refers to the room on the left side of the image. It has two parts, separated by stairs, and extends parallel to the tunnel (almost to the red spawn).
  • Stairs: For when they're not quite in Concrete, but aren't on the point either. It's the outer area.
  • Balcony: The upper part of Concrete.
  • Point: The control point.
  • Tunnel: This is, as you might expect, the tunnel that the cart travels through.
Tunnel to 3rd Point
  • Shelter: This is on top of the old Red spawn. It's on the far right of the image.
  • Concrete: A continuation of the room that you enter near the second point. It extends to the Red spawn.
  • Tunnel: The other end of the tunnel.
  • Crosswalk: Moves across from Shelter.
  • Shady: The area on the left side of the image, an open area with one large tree.

This room as a whole is called either Garage or Confusion - one is the sign on the side, and the other is our frustration at developing callouts. It's a very large indoor area with several entrances and three distinct levels. Because it's very nondescript in general, I've chosen to give a more detailed view of it.

For the Blue team, there are three entrances. One is with the cart and takes you out into the lowest level. One comes from what will eventually be your spawn, in the low area just near Shelter. The last is on your right, up from Shady and past a large wooden barricade.

There are three exits. Two are on the middle level and lead to just about the same place. The last is on the bottom and follows the track to the right.

While you're in here, I recommend using clear directions - right, left, rear, forward, etc. - to signify where you and the enemies are. Remember that directions should always be from your point of view, i.e. with the cart's movement on Blue and against the cart's movement on Red. "Middle", "upper", and "floor"/"tracks"/"lower" are your height indicators. This is the place in the map where your team will likely be closest together, so you should make sure you don't get too turned around.
3rd Point to Last
  • Tree: Simply put, a tree, found past either of the middle exits from Garage.
  • Crates: That whole patio with the crates on it.
  • Casali: The building past Crates, which overlooks the tracks on the left side of the image.

  • Casali: On the left of the image, the building with the propane tanks and small health/ammo packs.
  • Meadow: The grassy area that stretches from Tree up to the tracks.
  • Patio: The concrete area on either side of the tracks (unlabeled in this image). Use left/right as you need.
  • Silo: The house just to the right of the tracks as you exit.
  • Left/right doors: The doors that take you into the complex that holds Red's final spawn. Adjust depending on whether you're attacking or defending, of course.

  • Casali: The large house that overlooks the point. It has a couple rooms and small health/ammo packs.
  • Meadow: The grassy area next to Crates and Casali, stretching up to the tracks.
  • Patio: The concrete area on either side of the tracks. Use left/right as you need.

  • Concrete: The platform as you enter the Red base. You could also just use "left" or "right" if you prefer, but I like to give non-directional names.
  • Tracks/Point: As you might expect, these are the cart's path and final destination.

  • Stairs: The stairs on the far, far left, stretching up onto the area by Red spawn.
  • Right/left: Used to refer to the paths coming up to Barrels. In this image, Left is the lower area with the health and ammo packs, running up to Stairs. Right is the corridor coming from Concrete.
  • Catwalk: The long, sheltered walkway that leads from the floor to Barrels.
  • Barrels: The centerpiece just above the last point, defined by the huge toxic waste barrels.
  • Concrete: On the right of this image, the concrete platforms just inside the right door.
Conclusion
I appreciate you bearing with me! Even with images, interpreting locations from words is not easy, and I hope you've been able to parse this guide.

If there's anything I should add/change, feel free to leave a comment. This guide has been long unmaintained (created in 2016, then finally updated in 2021), but I hope I'll find time to keep it updated.

If you want help with callouts or anything else related to TF2, I'd be happy to discuss with you - just shoot me an invitation (leave a comment first) and I'll help out. Happy playing!

I appreciate the comment you left on my profile. I should let you know (I checked about a week ago now) that your image expansions aren't *entirely* working. For example, look at the last image above [the 'To Last - Right View'] and try to click the middle of the image to expand it. It does not work. But if you slowly move your cursor from the center to the top or to the left of the image, you will discover there are two thin strips where you *can* expand the image. There are similar situations with a number of the other images. Other than that, from what I recall, the callouts are substantially improved. A slight nitpick: in Garage's BLU view (note that it's not BLUE as you put it; Builder's League United, BLU and RED), you might call the part marked Middle on the right bridge for a slight bit more distinction. Good work.

Right. After years of dragging my feet, I finally updated this guide. New, expanded images and much cleaner callouts. Although I've been out of competitive play for a long time, and Borneo isn't really played much anymore, I felt it was important to keep this guide maintained.

Thank you all for bearing with me. Don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions or suggestions.

Naw, I have a monitor a good but bigger than that and I can still only enlarge the first image and none of the others. Also, some suggestions: make Point House just House, the significantly smaller First House merely Shack, Dropdown should only be Drop, etc. Please look through your calls, many of them are longer than they need to be, and even can create confusion, like with the 3 different houses (people might not hear the first part of each house). Plus, keeping calls short keeps communication more clear.

Might be because of your window size. It displays pretty well for me on a 768x1366 monitor, fullscreen.
