1. Open your internet browser (Firefox, IE etc)
Note: Using Google Chrome won't work unless you run Steam as an adminstrator on your computer.

2. Copy and paste this link into the address bar: steam://install/291210

3. This will open a dialog box, requesting the launch of an external application (Steam).

4. As soon as you accept that request, the installation menu should appear.

5. Accept it and Steam will begin downloading UberStrike.

[If this method doesn't work for you, try using a different browser. Chrome worked for me.]
[If it still doesn't work, read on for an alternate method]

If the browser method does not work for you, you can also start the download through task manager.

Windows 7 and below:
1. Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Alt + Delete)

2. Under the Applications Tab (default screen), right click the screen and press "New Task (Run...)"

3. Copy and paste the link (steam://install/291210) here.

4. After pressing OK the download should begin.


Windows 8 / 10:
1. Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Alt + Delete)

2. Click on the "File" button on the top left hand corner, then press "Run New Task"

3. Copy and paste the link (steam://install/291210) here.

4. After pressing OK the download should begin.

[Not necessary if the first method already worked.]

The phrase "steam://install/" commands Steam to initialise its installer. The number that follows it is the ID of the game that's to be installed.

In both methods, "steam://install/291210" was used, because 291210 is the appID of UberStrike, as seen here: https://steamdb.info/app/291210/

The command hence allowed you to retrieve the game data directly from the steam servers, even if the steam store doesn't display the game.

Note: This only works because the game data is still stored in the Steam cloud database.
If CMUNE ever decides to contact Valve to take the game files down, then this method will no longer work. Otherwise, if the game is left on steam, this method will work indefinitely.

Thanks to "bger98" of YouTube, we have found a way to play UberStrike again!
Follow the steps in his video down below to get started:

• You don't have to do the part from 0:15 to 0:47 if you've already installed UberStrike from the previous steps.

Unfortunately, you still cannot play multiplayer with this, because the server is being hosted locally on your own computer (because of the "LocalHost" configuration you have to type).

It might be possible to achieve with a bit of work, since other games can do it manually:

UberStrike may no longer be playable, but the game's data is still on steam and, if you managed to follow this guide with success, in your computer at the following directory:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\UberStrike\UberStrike_Data

There's a couple of files in there which I assume would be the game's assets, including the map and weapon files etc. I have no idea how to open them, but I'm guessing it should be some Unity engine application or some Software Development Kit (SDK).

If we as the Uberstrike community can get these to open and work, we may very well be able to host our own servers and continue playing this awesome game. :) It's a slim chance, but I'm hopeful.

Note: if anyone out there is a game/software developer and would like to have the original game files without the steam plugins and dependencies, do contact me via DM or comment down below. I have the gamefiles from the time when UberStrike was available as an independent Mac / Windows application, and they come without all the annoying .dll files that are intertwined with the steam API, which is probably better.
