Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair Gift/Choices Guide *No Spoilers*

Players can purchase gifts/presents and give them to characters throughout the game. Gifts strengthen relationships during the Daily Life section, which fills out characters' report cards and provides more Hope Fragments.
These gifts are availble from the Monomachine at the Beach on 1st Island, whilst the vending machine at the Rocketpunch Market only sells a select few specific items.

Every character has a preference when it comes to gifts. The timing of the gift also matters. For example, you should only give a certain item to a character before you gain 2 Hope Fragments from them, or 4, or 5. So think of the Hope Fragments values listed below as a limit for each gift.

I think you can just give everyone mineral water tho

You may as well use some of the other presents you've already acquired anyway, but you don't need to. But yeah the limits listed her for how many fragments you can get with certain items is a lie, overcomplicates the whole thing, and is a waste of time. You can use 5 mineral waters on every character and get a fragment every single visit without issue.

It seems that it should be clarified that the timing of gifts noted in this guide doesn't seem to count the one shard you have with everyone by default. I gave a 4 shard gift when I already had 4 shards by accident but it was fine, still gained the 5th shard for thst character from it. The beginning of the guide does say "before you *gain*" which kind of implies the first one doesn't count since you don't gain it, but just in case anyone wasn't sure, here ya go.

For those who don't know there is a report card hope fragment count that goes up by 1 when an event takes place and hope fragment counts for the ability store. That is what the numbers are for. If you give something they really like you get more hope fragments and this more points to buy abilities that make the trials easier. Hope that helps anyone confused by the guide trying to figure out why they only got one fragment instead of multiple.

If I understand correctly, it seems every gift listed only gives one hope fragment; the number next to it only signifies how many times you can give that specific gift to that person and still receive a hope fragment. For example, you can give mineral water to everyone twice and ultimately receive two hope fragments.
