General Information
The Watchman is an USR ship, which costs 819,000 Credits. Only the main weapon of the Watchman is modifiable at the cost of 110,000 Credits.

The Watchman has a Max Speed 525 and a Base Hull Strength of 6000 and is designed for long ranges.
General Playstyle
To succeed with the Watchman it is necessary to do these things:
  • Keep your enemies at range.
Your main weapon has a range of 40km ( 51km, with the first upgrade) so use your advantage
  • Be prepared to leave the sector, if the enemies are to close.
If an enemy gets closer then 12km or if you won't be able destroy them before they are in range you have to jump out of the sector. Attention: DON'T do this when an team mate is attacking the enemy, in this case you should help him.
  • Aim precisely and don't forget to use the Sniper Mode.
When playing the Watchman you have to aim very precise, as your weapons deal much damage but only have a low fire rate.
  • Choose your position wisely.
The best position is in front of your Forward Station or near the first Mining Station. Choose your Position so that you can retreat into the bubble of the Forward Station, without leaving Sniper Mode, to be still able to fire on enemies.
Loadout and Abilities
  • Shield:
The Shield will protect you from 75% of the damage you get in the next 5 seconds.
It is very useful to activate the Shield after initialising a jump, if you are attacked. This will prevent you from being destroyed while jumping in most cases. If you can't jump, you should use the Shield when an enemy does the most damage, like when missiles and the main weapon is fired.
  • Buzzard Missiles:
Your Buzzard Missiles are perfect for dealing more damage at closer ranges. It is best to not fire before the enemy is at a range of 18km to 20km. Attention: The missiles need much space to lunch and as they are positioned on the top and the bottom you should pay attention to your surroundings.
  • Spotter Drone:
Using the Spotter Drone can track UNCLOAKED ships for 30 seconds, which means that you always see there position. You should send your drones to enemies which are trying to hide behind metoers and are approaching towards you. The drone can also be used to track enemies trying to fly over you to get into the blind spot of your main weapon.
  • Mark Target:
The Mark Target laser increases the damage an enemies receives by 30% for the next 5 seconds.
To use the laser effectively you have to time it with your main weapon.
  • Main Weapons:
    • Railgun:
The Railgun is the first weapon the Watchman has. It has a range of 40km, however it is most effective at 35km. You should use the Railgun to fire frequently at your enemies, but don't forget to calculate the 0.5 seconds warm up and the movement of your enemies.
Targeting the damaged armor of your enemies will do lots of additional damage.
Attention: Enemies will try to reach the blind spot of your weapon so track them via a Spotter Drone and change your position if necessary.
    • LR Cannon (aka Charge Connan):
The LR Cannon has a poor Base Damage compaired with its rate of fire, however the weapon will be charged while in Sniper Mode increasing the damage massively.
After 6 seconds of charging the weapon will deal 1200 damage and destroy most armor on one-hit. The LR Cannon also has a larger range, but it is most effective at 35km too.
Like the Railgun you should target the destroyed armor section of ships to deal more damage.
Closing Words
The Watchman is a very powerful attack ship and I hope I could give you some useful tips on how to play it. However the play style is up to you, try different tatics and destroy those tiny range ships!

Good luck,

Hey there, some update work would not hurt. There have recently been some changes to snipers:
-Speed increased (I think to 615 or something along these lines)
-XP is no longer valid, and the price has changed, it is now cheaper.

Otherwise an awesome short guide! Well done!

How do I go into Sniper Mode?
Freestyle_Build  [author] 23 Apr, 2016 @ 1:52am
Thanks for that, if I do a guide on Guardian I will consider this!

If you decide to do a guide on the Guardian, you should refer to it as the frontline sniper, where the Watchman is the one that sits back. You should also say that a Guardian will NOT win in a fight against the Watchman, this is coming from personal experience. That being said, the Guardian can fight very effectively when just behind the line of battle, and the blink buoy can be activated from as far as the enemy FOB, so you can stay with your combat ships and get the Hell out of Dodge when the enemy team decides you don't need to live anymore.
