The Amazing and Odd Adventures of Running This Game Again!
By Hut Kai
Dear Oddworld Fans!

I want to help people to be able to decide to buy this game or not in upcoming Steam sales and not to be worried about launch problems that are popping up on the forums and I want to help returning fans of the series to enjoy this rare experience again.

One thing to consider, before you do this:

YOU WILL BE ABLE TO PLAY THE GAME, BUT STEAM OVERLAY (achievements, steam clock, screenshot function, gametime-counter, etc.) WON'T RUN, BUT IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THE GAME, THIS IS ALL YOU NEED !

Don't be afraid, it is easy to accomplish.
Please try the following :

1. After you start Steam, right click on your Steam icon right next to your Windows Time (lower right corner) or open up Steam big screen (not in BIG PICTURE mode, just open Steam on fullscreen)

2. Open your Steam Library and search for Oddworld : Stranger's Wrath

3. Right click on its name in your library

4. From the pop-up menu, choose the deep bottom option called " Properties "

5. Then choose and click on the " Local Files " tab from the three tabs, called " General ", " Updates " and "Local Files "

6. Click on the " Browse Local Files " button (from the 4 buttons, it is the one on the top)

7. This opens up your default Windows File Browser so you can see your Stranger's Wrath folder inside Steam (something like C: or D:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Stranger's Wrath)

8. Look for the application icon called " Launcher " (with the little Oddworld Inhabitants logo, that looks like a ' W ')

9. Right click on the " Launcher " and from the pop-up menu, choose the " Send to > Desktop (create shortcut) " option (it is usually somewhere in the middle-lower part of the right click menu)

10. Close your File Browser and look for the " Launcher " icon on your Windows Desktop

11. Right click on it and choose " Rename " (it is almost at the bottom of the list) and add it a new name, like Stranger's Wrath or Oddworld 4 or anything you would like to call it.

12. From now on, load up Steam and start the game from the Windows Desktop using double left mouse click, pressing Enter on your keyboard or using right mouse click, and choosing the " Open " command in the top of the pop-up menu

13. Please enjoy!

Hi Shy!

To be frank with you, I haven't had any audio errors whatsoever, but I've been playing this game and finished on my old computer with Win 7 (64 bit) installed.

I was looking into this audio problem and haven't really found any solution on the internet. Dead ends mostly.

I can only guess, but it might help, if you set the game to start as an administrator, from the game's folder and set it to run in Windows 7 compatibility mode, then create and add a shortcut to your Windows Desktop with the game's executable. Start the game from there.

It helped me once or twice with older games, when I've had that problem on my Windows 10 PC.
I hope it helps, mate.

I know this guide is from 2016 but the game still has audio problems, the splash screen and menu audio works fine but in game the audio cuts out completely. It runs fine however but audio does need to be heard due to hints from the stranger being solely audible.

Hi, Jeremiah!

Thank you for your comment.
I switched from Windows 7 to a dual load win 8.1/win 10 configuration about 2 years ago, and it runs for me on both win 8.1 and win 10.

There is a good little comment section that might be help of you, mate.

This second one is from GoG, but it tells people to install Visual C++ software :

I hope, some of the suggestions help you, since it is not the most stable port on Steam.
Keep on trying and I think you'll be able to play it in no time.
