Troubleshooting Guide for CHKN

If you are having trouble with launching or playing CHKN, we apologize for these issues. Here is a guide to help with general, known issues and if you have any other questions or concerns, please let us know.

We will also be adding to this guide as the game evolves. Remember, it's Early Access. Bugs will be fixed and some more may pop up. Wide spread and known bugs will be covered here. Smaller bugs will usually be fixed in patch notes and resolved in the forum.

Minimum System Requirements

A lot of you ask about why the game won't run, and one of the things to check first is if your computer can even run CHKN, or run it well. If your computer is old or the graphics card isn't powerful enough, you may not be able to run it. Our system requirements are on the store page, and looks like this:

Generally, computers after 2004 will run CHKN. Will it run well? Probably not. It's a 3D game, so you need a decent graphics card.

Updating Drivers

Make sure that your video and sound card drivers are up to date! This might be one of the biggest issues that no one checks for. Somtimes Unity3D doesn't automatically select your best graphics card if you have more than one. Upgrading your graphics card driver may help.

Update your Operating System.

Your operating system might need an update as well, so make sure that your computer is as updated as possible.

General Updates

We do small fixes and patches frequently, usually afer you guys let us know of a problem, or if we discover something while testing. If you had an issue and go back to the game in a few days, we may have patched it while you were gone. So check our news section to see what has been updated.

Verifying Integrity of the Installation

Steam sometimes fails to install or update games correctly. If CHKN didn't install properties then some funky stuff can happen. To make sure your installation is fine right click CHKN in Steam and select Properties. Then navigate to Local Files and click the Verify Integrity of Game Cache button. In rare cases the installation might be broken even though all files pass the validation. In that case all you can do is uninstall and re-install the game.

Game isn't loading/starting up.

We know that CHKN takes a while to load, generally 3-5 minutes. Let it do it's thing and don't do anything while the loading screen takes it's time. It's definitely something we are working to fix, but for now, just bare with it. If everything listed above on this guide is fine with your computer, then CHKN will load very soon. If it's been 10+ minutes, then force quit and try again. If there is still no response, then check the above mentioned topics in this guide.

Ways to give feedback/report bugs.

We love hearing from you guys.

We want you to send us your log files, tell us your issues, feedback and suggestions, and just let us know how we are doing! Here are some ways to do that.

Post in our forum on steam, that way other people who may have the same issue, or have resolved said issue, can also comment or help out.
Send us your error logs via email: heychkn@katapultstudio.com (explained in detail in the next section)
Shout very loudly from a mountain top towards the direction of New York City.

CHKN error logs can be found in these locations:

Mac OS X: ~/Library/Logs/Unity/Player.log
Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\CHKN\CHKN_Data\output_log.txt
Linux: ~/.config/unity3d/Katapult/CHKN/Player.log

All you have to do is search your computer for that file, copy and paste the file into an email, and send it to heychkn@katapultstudio.com. It's as easy as that and it helps us figure out these problems!

i fucking load the game it runs its crash handler and then force closes itself before i can even play the game

if anybody know wtf i am talking about and how to fix it PLEASE send me a message. i played it a lot cuz i am bored and like weird shit like this and now it won't work so i am depressed.

also pressing alt + enter to force fullscreen like google suggested just made a huge smudge that i could do nothing with. so making it bigger for me did not help at all.

i just played CHKN last month and now whenever i load it up all i get is a very crushed image about the size of my pinkie finger that according to steam is running at over 400 fps. i waited over ten minutes for it to fully load so i could maybe try to interact with it but no i can even click anything but the minimized and close tab buttons. that or force quit on STEAM. this sucks cuz literally like 2 weeks ago i was using it and now its screwed in ALL 3 versions of it. all have the same issue. fully verified, no files missing, and no freaking clue WTF to do!!!!
