This is the downside of helpers and automation. One becomes too dependent on them, because they serve convenience, and the very nature of convenience is about not paying attention.
This reminds me of the issue with cars having lights on during the day. People get so used to it that a car without lights on might cease to exist in their perception. (And bikers don't like it either.)
I have Steam Cloud turned off. I regularly do backups using SyncBack Free.
The things I hear sometimes... they're necessary reminders. Like a writer losing all his manuscripts in a HD failure because he didn't care to make a backup of that little bit of data on a USB stick or something.
The things we truly care about, we show their importance through action. :-)
