The 7th Guest. Joan's notes for solving various puzzles.
By joan4003
Personal notes taken while playing this game. The three chess puzzles are actually "famous" chess based logic puzzles. The map to the dungeon is found on a rug in a bedroom. In no way is this guide complete, these are simply my notes. Since I took them, making a guide was the best place to store them for when and if I ever play this game again.

Best guide I found was -- http://strategywiki.org/wiki/The_7th_Guest/Walkthrough

Storyline:
Stauf was a homeless vagrant and a thief, and became a murderer during a robbery. Being a desperate type of person he made a pact with a demon to avoid prosecution. The demon helped him become a famous and wealthy toymaker. Stauf created toys and replica dolls (dolls that look like the person). A plague came to the village/town he lived in and the children with Stauf's toys died. The demon had Stauf use all his wealth to build a house full of puzzles. After the house was built Stauf invited 6 people to spend the night with the promise of whoever could solve all of his puzzles could have anything they wanted.

The six people invited were: (information is in the credits)
A married couple (husband and wife)
A socialite
A dandy
A magician
An actress?

The seventh guest refers to a young boy (Tad?) who was dared to enter the house. (The sacrifice)

Chess puzzles
There are three chess puzzles. Classic and famous all.

Queen's Territory:
Place 8 queens on the chessboard without the strike territory overlapping.

1 of 12 solutions.

Bishops:
Reverse the positions of black and white bishop on the chessboard.

Solution
First, work only with the pieces on one colour of squares, then use the mirror image of the moves to get the bishops on the other colour across. Alternate the below moves, with Black and White:

Black E2→D3 A2→B3 D3→B1 B3→C4 A4→D1 D1→E2 B1→C2 C2→A4 E4→C2 C4→A2 E2→C4 C2→D1 A2→B1 B1→E4 C4→D3 D1→B3 B3→A2 D3→E2

White E3→D2 A3→B2 D2→B4 B2→C1 A1→D4 D4→E3 B4→C3 C3→A1 E1→C3 C1→A3 E3→C1 C3→D4 A3→B4 B4→E1 C1→D2 D4→B2 B2→A3 D2→E3

Knights:
Reverse the postion of the black and white knighs on the chessboard.

Solution
One way of getting the knights across the board is by moving the knights on the following squares in sequence. The squares are lettered from left to right and numbered from top to bottom:
A4 → C5 → B3 → A5 → C4 → E3 → D1 → B2 → C4 → A3 → C2 → E1 → D3 → C1 → E2 ↵
C3 → B1 → D2 → C4 → E5 → D3 → C5 → B3 → A1 → C2 → A3 → C4 → E3 → C2 → E1 ↵
D3 → B4 → A2 → C1 → B3 → D4 → E2 → C1 → B3 → D4 → B5 → C3 → E4 → D2 → B3 ↵
D4 → E2 → C3 → D5 → E3 → D1 → C3 → D5 → B4 → A2 → C1 → E2 → C3
