Following the events at Arkham Asylum, Dateki went back to his normal life as a playboy billionaire. He didn't understand why he hadn't been transported to the next gaming universe, nor did he care. He was Batman! More importantly though, he was Bruce Wayne, and he lavished in the high life this awarded him. He filled his days with wealthy hi-jinks, his evenings with fist fights, and the occasional weekend with Catwoman, or "Selena Kyle" as she called herself. Yep, life was pretty good for the wayward adventurer.

Turning on his large 15' television one morning, Dateki was greeted by the most troubling news: the unveiling of a new experimental prison right in the heart of his beloved city of Gotham. Dubbed 'Arkham City', the prison would host the combined inmates of Arhkam Asylum and Blackgate prison, and would be under constant watch by a private company known as Tyger. Now, Dateki wasn't the brightest bulb in the world-- smart, to be sure, but not all that perceptive-- and even he knew a bad idea when he heard one. One prison riot or one guard sleeping on the job-- or taking bribes as a certain guard in the asylum had-- and the city would be in absolute chaos. Every villain he had locked up, every criminal and psychopath taken off the streets; all would be roaming free and even with all his tricks and tools, Dateki couldn't stop all of them. Not without betraying his principles.

With no way to fight this threat as Batman, Dateki did what was natural: he fought it as Bruce Wayne, pouring millions into campaigns and interest groups to oppose the creation of this prison. In spite of his efforts, Arkham City was built and populated within a fortnight. In one last call for sanity and reason, Dateki held a press conference in front of the doors of the prison, determined to sway the public to his side. Little did he know that an old nemesis of his had been hoping for this...

The next thing Dateki knew, he was awakening in a dark room, handcuffed and tied to a chair. Before him stood the insidious Doctor Strange, fallen psychiatrist and psychopath, whose experiments and immoral practices would even make Nazi scientists blush. He revealed he knew Dateki's identity as Batman and alluded to some grand scheme now that the masked vigilante called Arkham City now.

Thrown out onto the streets, Dateki would have to fend for himself as various criminals tried to get the best of him. Calling in his superhero gear from his headquarters, Dateki once again dawned the persona of Batman and set out to uncover what Strange had planned, and stop him  before it was too late.

About Batman: Arkham City
Batman: Arkham City is a stealth action adventure game developed by Rocksteady Studios and is the direct sequel of the first Arkham game, Arkham Asylum. Unlike the first title in the series, Arkham City possesses an open world that players can freely explore and adventure in, ripe with enemies, side-missions and collectibles. Batman is tasked with thwarting a plot by the villain Doctor Strange and must rely on everything from his gadgets to his allies to stop the madman and his associates before it is too late.

Batman: Arkham City Gameplay

Gameplay in Arkham City is much like its predecessor, in that it focuses on combat, stealth, and puzzle-solving. Combat is very much the same and Batman has his usual tools and techniques to deliver devastating attacks to his opponents, all non-lethal of course. Stealth is improved by the ability to strike at enemies through certain obstacles and from different angles, allowing the player a greater range of strategies and movement when tackling the thugs of Arkham City. When it comes to puzzle-solving, Batman has a few additional tricks up his sleeve in this iteration of the series, up to and including a way to monitor enemy radio chatter. This mechanic plays a vital role in helping Batman make his way around the city, find political prisoners thrown in with the criminals, and aids players in immersing themselves into the game.

The newest feature the game offers is its open world. Arkham City is an experimental prison constructed in Gotham in which all of the inmates of the asylum and Blackgate prison have been placed. Everybody from run-of-the-mill thieves to the most dangerous beings in existence have been herded into this area, and this provides a dangerous and exciting world for players to explore. Players can explore dozens of side-missions, play as different characters, and uncover the seedy underbelly of Gotham while they progress through the game.
