Introduction
Welcome to the achievement guide for Fieldrunners!

The purpose of this guide is to give a clear and concise overview of the requirements for earning all 93 achievements in the game and reaching that perfect 100% completion.

Fieldrunners is a tower defense game originally released for iOS in 2008 and it definitely shows its age. Regardless of whether you call the gameplay classic or uninspired, it has several shortcomings in the achievements department.

For a tower defense enthusiast, the game is not too difficult. The only achievements you should have trouble with are the ones for Endless mode (due to poor balancing of waves past 100) and the tedious grinding achievements. Because of the latter, it should take you around 170 hours to reach 100% completion.

Although none of the achievements are broken, there are two that are a bit buggy - Purple Heart and HARDCORE! (see their individual descriptions for specifics).

Basics
  • Each map consists of 100 rounds (waves) and takes about 15-30 minutes to complete.
  • There are 8 maps. Each must first be beaten on Classic to unlock Extended and other modes.
  • Extended mode is basically the same as Classic, but you have 6 towers instead of 4 and the enemy compositions in some waves vary slightly.
  • There are three difficulties, the only difference being that enemies on higher difficulties have more health. Note that difficulty achievements DO NOT STACK. In other words, you need to play each map at least six times to get all the related achievements.
  • Each tower can be upgraded twice to increase its effectiveness. The exact stats can be viewed in the Help menu.
  • Hotkeys: Pause/unpause = Space; Double speed = F; Select tower = number keys (1-6); Zoom in/out = mouse wheel
  • There are also in-game achievement pop-ups. Corresponding Steam achievements should pop a few seconds after the in-game ones.
With all that out of the way, let's begin!
Maps (1-4)
1. GRASSLANDS

Boot Camp Junior
Get to round 100 on Grasslands in Classic mode on Easy.

Field Corporal
Get to round 100 on Grasslands in Classic mode on Medium.

Fieldrunner
Get to round 100 on Grasslands in Classic mode on Hard.

Grasslands Bronze
Get to round 100 on Grasslands in Extended mode on Easy.

Grasslands Silver
Get to round 100 on Grasslands in Extended mode on Medium.

Grasslands Gold
Get to round 100 on Grasslands in Extended mode on Hard.

Loadout: Gatling, Goo, Missile, Tesla (EX mode adds Flame and Mortar Towers)

Basics: The first map and one of the easiest. Only a few flying enemies should be able to slip through during later waves on hard difficulty.

Strategy: You should place most of your upgraded towers on the direct path between the enemy spawn point and the exit to catch the flying enemies. Try to get the first Tesla Tower up by wave 20 for the helicopters. This is one of the easier maps of the game because ground enemies only come from one direction and can easily be juggled.

Juggling: See above screenshot. When enemies reach the end of your maze (blue), the Gatling tower near the entrance (red) can be sold and rebuilt there to block their path. This forces the enemies to backtrack the entire length of the maze, at which point you can rebuild the tower and change their direction again. You can repeat this as long as you have the money (selling a tower only refunds part of its cost). This strategy allows you to deal with ground waves efficiently, although it can be time-consuming.

2. CROSSROADS

Boot Camp Senior
Get to round 100 on Crossroads in Classic mode on Easy.

Base Major
Get to round 100 on Crossroads in Classic mode on Medium.

Baserunner
Get to round 100 on Crossroads in Classic mode on Hard.

Crossroads Bronze
Get to round 100 on Crossroads in Extended mode on Easy.

Crossroads Silver
Get to round 100 on Crossroads in Extended mode on Medium.

Crossroads Gold
Get to round 100 on Crossroads in Extended mode on Hard.

Loadout: Gatling, Goo, Missile, Tesla (EX mode adds Flame and Mortar Towers)

Basics: Unlocked by reaching round 50 on Grasslands. Two entry and exit points this time. Enemies will only attempt to head to the exit directly opposite their spawn point. Blimps at waves 20, 50, 80, and 100.

Strategy: Try to get a Tesla Tower near the middle as soon as possible (ideally around wave 15), because it will make your life A LOT easier. Use Gatlings to maze the enemies in the meantime. Although the same strategy applies to extended mode, some blimp directions are reversed (first blimp appears from the top instead of left, etc), so be ready for that.

3. DRYLANDS

Boot Camp Dominator
Get to round 100 on Drylands in Classic mode on Easy.

Desert Captain
Get to round 100 on Drylands in Classic mode on Medium.

Desertrunner
Get to round 100 on Drylands in Classic mode on Hard.

Drylands Bronze
Get to round 100 on Drylands in Extended mode on Easy.

Drylands Silver
Get to round 100 on Drylands in Extended mode on Medium.

Drylands Gold
Get to round 100 on Drylands in Extended mode on Hard.

Loadout: Gatling, Goo, Missile, Tesla (EX mode adds Flame and Mortar Towers)

Basics: Unlocked by reaching round 50 on Crossroads. Tons of choppers and planes, including a top-down path only for flying enemies. Two regular spawn points for ground enemies at the top and bottom left corners. The final wave has three blimps spawning from the top, and ten fast planes from the other two spawn points.

Strategy: Place upgraded Gatlings at the first waves to deal with the initial fliers, then build the maze as normal. Not a difficult map if you manage to deal with the fliers.

4. CRYSTAL CAVES

Crystal Clear
Get to round 100 on Crystal Caves in Classic mode on Easy.

Diamonds Are Forever
Get to round 100 on Crystal Caves in Classic mode on Medium.

Crystalrunner
Get to round 100 on Crystal Caves in Classic mode on Hard.

Crystal Caves Bronze
Get to round 100 on Crystal Caves in Extended mode on Easy.

Crystal Caves Silver
Get to round 100 on Crystal Caves in Extended mode on Medium.

Crystal Caves Gold
Get to round 100 on Crystal Caves in Extended mode on Hard.

Loadout: Gatling, Goo, Missile, Shotgun (EX mode adds Tesla and Mortar Towers)

Basics: Unlocked by reaching round 50 on Drylands. This map introduces enemies on carts that move around the map, so you can't maze them. On the other hand, there are no flying enemies on this map, so that's a plus.

Strategy: You need to build the maze to direct the runners DOWN, not up, because otherwise your towers will alternate between the rail carts and ground enemies, effectively halving their DPS and often causing several enemies to slip through. With my sample setup, all ground runners should be dealt with by the time the rail carts arrive, so your Shotguns can focus on them.
Maps (5-8)
5. SKYWAY

Boot Camp Master
Get to round 100 on Skyway in Classic mode on Easy.

Sky Colonel
Get to round 100 on Skyway in Classic mode on Medium.

Skyrunner
Get to round 100 on Skyway in Classic mode on Hard.

Skyway Bronze
Get to round 100 on Skyway in Extended mode on Easy.

Skyway Silver
Get to round 100 on Skyway in Extended mode on Medium.

Skyway Gold
Get to round 100 on Skyway in Extended mode on Hard.

Loadout: Gatling, Goo, Missile, Laser (EX mode adds Flame and Tesla Towers)

Basics: Unlocked by reaching round 50 on Crystal Caves. Some tiles of this map are filled in, so you essentially start with a partial maze.

Strategy: One of the easiest maps of the game. Obvious placement points for laser towers (on cross-sections, firing in straight lines). Despite the name of the map, there aren’t too many flying enemies (except on waves 99-100). It’s possible to easily create a very lengthy maze, so no juggling is needed even on hard.

6. FROSTBITE

Boot Camp Complete
Get to round 100 on Frostbite in Classic mode on Easy.

Ice Brigadier
Get to round 100 on Frostbite in Classic mode on Medium.

Icerunner
Get to round 100 on Frostbite in Classic mode on Hard.

Frostbite Bronze
Get to round 100 on Frostbite in Extended mode on Easy.

Frostbite Silver
Get to round 100 on Frostbite in Extended mode on Medium.

Frostbite Gold
Get to round 100 on Frostbite in Extended mode on Hard.

Loadout: Gatling, Ice, Missile, Tesla (EX mode adds Flame and Mortar Towers)

Basics: Unlocked by reaching round 50 on Skyway. Enemies come from all four directions and head to the middle. The map has quite a big number of flying enemies, and the ones spawning from top/bottom have an extremely short path to the exit.

Strategy: Like with Crossroads, use upgraded Gatlings near the middle, then maze everything. Block off the exits on three sides, so all enemies move to the fourth. Have a Tesla up on the left side for the blimp on wave 20. Make sure you pay attention to upcoming waves so you can add and upgrade Teslas on the correct sides as needed. No juggling needed.

7. MUDSLIDE

Mud on Your Boots
Get to round 100 on Mudslide in Classic mode on Easy.

Natural Born Sniper
Get to round 100 on Mudslide in Classic mode on Medium.

Mudrunner
Get to round 100 on Mudslide in Classic mode on Hard.

Mudslide Bronze
Get to round 100 on Mudslide in Extended mode on Easy.

Mudslide Silver
Get to round 100 on Mudslide in Extended mode on Medium.

Mudslide Gold
Get to round 100 on Mudslide in Extended mode on Hard.

Loadout: Gatling, Goo, Missile, Plasma (EX mode adds Flame and Tesla Towers)

Basics: Unlocked by reaching round 50 on Frostbite. Another map with rails. The Plasma Tower is unique, as it fires four shots and any shot that hits another Plasma Tower causes it to shoot as well, potentially triggering a massive chain reaction that makes all your plasma towers fill the screen with shots, so even towers that are out of range can hit enemies.

Strategy: There is an excellent strategy shown here (works on hard and extended): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAT2gbka8Tg

8. LAVAFLOW

Firecracker
Get to round 100 on Lavaflow in Classic mode on Easy.

Firewalker
Get to round 100 on Lavaflow in Classic mode on Medium.

Lavarunner
Get to round 100 on Lavaflow in Classic mode on Hard.

Lavaflow Bronze
Get to round 100 on Lavaflow in Extended mode on Easy.

Lavaflow Silver
Get to round 100 on Lavaflow in Extended mode on Medium.

Lavaflow Gold
Get to round 100 on Lavaflow in Extended mode on Hard.

Loadout: Gatling, Goo, Missile, Lava (EX mode adds Laser and Tesla Towers)

Basics: Unlocked by reaching round 50 on Mudslide. Two separate rails for enemies, plus ground enemies and fliers. Not at all a difficult map overall.

Strategy: The Lava Tower easily deals with most enemies because of its powerful AOE damage. However, the map also has a few fire-resistant enemies that necessitate the use of Missile Towers (or Tesla Towers in extended mode).
Towers
Mow Them Down
Fully upgrade a Gatling Tower.

Slow Mow!
Fully upgrade a Goo Tower.

Blow 'em Up!
Fully upgrade a Missile Tower.

Mad Scientist
Fully upgrade a Tesla Tower.

Global Warmer
Fully upgrade a Flame Tower.

Manhattan Project
Fully upgrade a Mortar Tower.

Get Off My Lawn
Fully upgrade a Shotgun Tower.

Cuts Like Butter
Fully upgrade a Laser Tower.

Nuclear Winter
Fully upgrade an Ice Tower.

Solar Flare
Fully upgrade a Plasma Tower.

Super Volcano
Fully upgrade a Lava Tower.

Heavy Poison
Fully upgrade a Poison Tower.

Each map has a fixed loadout of towers, so you'll eventually be able to build and upgrade each tower simply by playing all eight maps. The Poison Tower is the only exception, as it only appears in the Tower Combo mode (can be played on any map).
Endless
It's Better to Be Alive
Get to round 150 on any map in Endless mode on Easy.

Time Flies
Get to round 250 on any map in Endless mode on Easy.

Insane!
Get to round 500 on any map in Endless mode on Easy.

Strategic Genius
Get to round 250 on any map in Endless mode on Medium.

Daredevil
Get to round 150 on any map in Endless mode on Hard.

These are the hardest achievements in the game (excluding the tedious grinding ones).

Easy

Just play Grasslands and spam Mortars and Goo Towers. You'll likely have to juggle a bit on the later waves, but the only real threats are the flying enemies, so make sure you focus on covering their flight path.

Medium

This is literally the only viable strategy I could find.

Play Skyway with the same build as the regular (classic) version of the map, only slightly modified. You should reach wave 100 with no trouble.

By wave 100, you should have the initial maze mostly finished.

You can start juggling around wave 110-120. Most waves don't need juggling, but the APCs and mechs usually do, especially on later waves. You receive a lot of money on this map, so don't be afraid to juggle when needed. Also, the difficult waves with flying enemies always come in two rows, so you need the Laser Towers placed two deep.

Wave 150: By this point, your maze should look something like this:

Wave 175: Close the middle ground path to add more anti-air towers.

Wave 200: In hindsight, you don't need to build the two towers up top at the entrance, because you'll end up selling them anyway.

Wave 225: It's all about juggling by this point. Some waves take forever to die.

Wave 249: The final wave you need to beat. Ten helicopters with insane amount of health in two rows. Expect to let at least 4-5 of them through.

From what I remember, enemies slipped through on waves 149, 179, 199, 229, 239 and 249. In all cases, these were helicopters that had too much health to be killed off by the towers.

Due to insane amount of enemy health on later waves and the amount of juggling needed, it will take a LONG time to reach 250 waves. Even with the exact build planned out beforehand, it took me nearly five hours with no pausing and constant 2x speed. Best of luck.

Hard

The above strategy also works for the 150 waves on hard difficulty, which is actually much easier overall than doing 250 waves on medium.
Grind
Aerial Survivalist
Destroy 100 air units.

Aerial Madman
Destroy 500 air units.

Impenetrable!
Destroy 5,000 air units.

Shoot down the required number helicopters, planes and/or blimps. Flying enemies are quite common, so you should get these achievements fairly quickly.

Jelly Up!
Slow down 100,000 fieldrunners with the Goo Tower.

Precious Snowflake
Slow down 50,000 fieldrunners with the Ice Tower.

Slice Them Up!
Defeat 5,000 fieldrunners with the Laser Tower.

I Love the Smell of Napalm...
Defeat 5,000 fieldrunners with the Flame Tower.

Nuclear Dawn
Defeat 15,000 fieldrunners with the Mortar Tower.

The Goo Tower will be one of your main towers throughout the game, so the achievement should come with little effort. You should also get the Laser Tower achievement easily after playing through the Skyway map six times for the related achievements. The other three towers (Flame, Mortar, Ice) all appear on the Frostbite map on extended mode, so you can grind those out there.

No Mercy
Defeat 5,000 fieldrunners.

They Keep Coming, I Keep Gunning
Defeat 25,000 fieldrunners.

Statistic
Defeat 100,000 fieldrunners.

Berzerker
Defeat 500,000 fieldrunners.

Active Denial System
Defeat 1,000,000 fieldrunners.

Some of the most tedious achievements in this game (or in any game for that matter). You should hit one million kills while grinding the "500 wins" achievement, because each map has about 1500-2000 runners over the course of the 100 waves.

Hard Worker
Get defeated 100 times.

Patience is a Virtue
Get defeated 500 times.

Lemming!
Get defeated 1,000 times.

Some of the stupidest achievements I've seen in any game. Play any map on Sudden Death mode, die on the first wave, repeat. The most annoying thing about this is the fact that restarting the map takes forever because you are dumped back to the main menu after each loss and have to load the map again.

War Hero
Achieve 100 victories.

THIS IS SPARTA!
Achieve 100 victories without losing any lives.

Commander-in-Chief
Achieve 500 victories.

Commander-in-Chief has to be the most soul-crushing achievement I've encountered in any game.

Even if you play on easy with 2x speed and without pausing, it still takes ~15 minutes to beat all 100 waves. That means over 100 hours of grinding. I sincerely hope you're playing in windowed mode or using a second monitor, so you could do LITERALLY ANYTHING ELSE while waiting for the waves to tick down.

Here's the map and build I used. I picked Lavaflow simply because it is slightly quicker than most other maps and requires the least amount of effort to win.

Waves 1-40: build the maze and place the initial towers.

Wave ~60: finish upgrading the towers.

This is the most hands-off build I could think of, although I'm sure it could be optimized further. It only takes a few minutes to set up the maze up to wave 40. Then you just have to jump into the game one more time around wave 60 to upgrade the towers so they'd be able to deal with the later waves. The defenses should easily hold up for the last 40 on their own.

If you want to get the "100 perfect wins" achievement, just place more towers to shut down any potential enemies who might make it through (lower rails and fliers, mostly). I had well over $1000 left over with this build, so it shouldn't be a problem.
Other
Warming Up
Score 100,000 points on any map in a single session.

Iron Fist
Score 500,000 points on any map in a single session.

Master Plan
Score 850,000 points on any map in a single session.

You can get a score of 500k on many regular classic or extended maps. Reaching 850k points is quite common on the later maps on hard difficulty, so no special strategy is required.

FLAWLESS!
Achieve victory without taking any damage.

Beat any map on any difficulty with the full 20 lives remaining. Just follow the basic strategies outlined in the maps section of this guide and you'll be fine, at least on the lower difficulties.

Diehard
Play 75 rounds consecutively with 1 life.

The easiest way to earn this achievement is to play the Sudden Death mode on any map, because you start the game with 1 life. Just beat the first 75 waves and you're done.

Purple Heart
Survive any map with only 1 life.

This achievement is a bit bugged. It does not trigger along with the in-game pop-up after beating the map, but rather as you start a new game after surviving the map with 1 life. Also, this achievement does not trigger on Sudden Death mode. Just play your favorite map on easy and sell your towers for the final wave to let through exactly the amount of enemies needed to drop you to 1 life.

Guerrilla Warfare
Buy and sell 20 towers consecutively.

Build a tower, sell a tower, repeat 20 times. There is no time constraint for this achievement, as you don't need to sell the towers immediately after building them. I got this achievement over the course of a dozen rounds while juggling enemy waves on Endless mode.

Medal of Honor
Unlock 50% of all achievements.

HARDCORE!
Unlock all achievements.

Self-explanatory. The Hardcore achievement is slightly bugged because it is not awarded with the final achievement. Like with Purple Heart, you need to start a new map in order to get the Steam achievement to pop. You might also need to restart the game for it to trigger properly.
Conclusion
That's it. I hope this guide has been useful.

Thanks for reading.

Good luck and have fun playing try to endure!

Unreal to complete extended in hard mode on grasslands

Your solution to Strategic Genius is as it is; Genius. I ended up with 1 life left, but I think it was because I did not put the Goo Tower at the beginning at the same time, that you did.
I made a small change: I kept and arranged couple of the regular guns at the top of the map which you took of between 100-150. It was in case of bankrupt but it also divided normal runners, so the middle Towers could focus on the air units.

Strategic Genius worked like a charm, thanks so much. I have been trying this since forever!

Good luck with that one, it got really tedious near the end. I got sloppy around wave 150 and let a few enemies through that I should've easily killed. If you pay attention throughout, it shouldn't be too difficult.

@Omnisciurus Thankyou very much for your guide. I saw on Astats that you had a solution to Strategic Genius and I can't wait to test it out.
