Obligatory for every train owner.

Cotton is the best material for fabrics, but it's very flammable, be careful.
Food

Food is essential, but expires rather fast. Must be delivered as soon as possible. Sells for a good price almost everywhere.
Fur

Beautiful fur can traded from native tribes only.
Jewelry

High value Jewelry from different countries. Keep away from burglars
Medicine

Medicines. Take only by prescription. Keep away from children.
Oil

This is the black gold, but gold that can burn. Handle with care.

Steel is the most important material nowadays. Very, very heavy. May significantly reduce train speed.
Tobacco

Very profitable. Any health concerns are terribly exaggarated.

Very reliable tools for constructing and repair.

Weapons and Ammo. Do not smoke nearby! prohibited in some cities.

Tip:
Always make sure you've filled your Coal tender before looking at loading Cargo. This is to make sure that your trains weight calculation doesn't miss the coal you'll require, otherwise your train could be too heavy to pull out of the station.
