A very basic guide to make screenshots for this game (or others)

Step 1 - The first step you should do before anything else
The first step in making a screenshot of any game that does not allow you to do so is to look at the game's APPID. This is found usually either on the online library of your steam, which has to be on a browser, not via the steam application. The easiest method, which is also the one I used, is to use the icon on the desktop of your pc for the game. If you don't have a desktop icon for the game, you can create one by right clicking the game in your library and create desktop icon.

Once you're on your desktop, right click the game's icon desktop shortcut and select "properties". Under "web document", copy the number at the end, which for this game is 428100.

Note: The above APPID is for the game "BEYOND REALITY". If you want to use this for another game, please be aware the APPID will be different depending on the game you choose.

This concludes the first step
Step 2 - The second step to do before alternatives
This step is a bit complex. You must find the place where steam places all the info it does for your pc in a folder. The most basic place it is usually found is:

C:\ Program Files\steam\userdata\YOURSTEAMID\760\remote\ (random folders of steam game APPID numbers)

This is the basic place it is kept. The difference is if your using a x64 bit system, then it is under Program Files (x64). the rest is the same. Also, drive may change if you keep on different drive.

Remember that number from step 1? Make a new folder called 428100 under the above link. Inside this folder, we will need to make a folder. First, make a folder inside 428100 called "screenshots". Now open the folder screenshots. We make a new folder inside this one called "thumbnails".

NOTE: YourSteamID is a special id that identifies your steam account. Don't touch it or mess with it!

This concludes the second step.
Step 3 - the last regular step to do normally before trying alternative methods
This step involves the easiest step. While in the game, use the printscreen button. This will take an image of the screen. Now, most pc's come with paint. Open paint. Now in paint, select paste. This pasted the image you took in printscreen on it. Feel free to modify it anyway you want in paint.

Save it to the location you made in step 2, which is a folder found in the steam folders, which is:

Steam>Userdata>YOUR STEAM ID #>760>remote>428100>screenshots

Things to consider...make sure to save your image as a jpeg, as most screenshots saved by steam are in the form of a jpeg. Save a second copy of the same image under the folder thumbnails.

Some rules:

Be wary of size restrictions on the image file. If the image file is too big, the screenshot might not be recognized by steam.

Also, when done doing this, you will need to restart your pc. Restarting steam does not always work, so restart your whole pc. Once this is done, start steam, and select the game you made the image for, as in this case, it is Beyond Reality. Right click on it in the library and it should show "view screenshots" on it. You can now upload the screenshot to the steam screenshot for that game. This method supposedly works for all games. I modified this method basically from the guide used for cherry tree high's guide because I was confused about a couple things. I tried to simplify it as much as possible. I hope this helps you. Thanks for reading!

This concludes the guide! Please read below at the great contributors!
Secondary Method (VR method) - After updates on steam, or you get cloud error
I have personally run into a error with the method i posted above and will explain another method of uploading screenshots shortly. Usually the error states something about "steam cloud cannot update the screenshot due to be temporarily down". This is a annoying bug.

First off, if you get the error issue with this, which happens after a update from steam happens, there is another method. Basically do this:

#1. In the folder of the game you want to load the screenshot into, as above i posted in the other method, make a copy of the screenshot with the ending of it having _vr in the filename. For example, let's say you uploaded sample.jpg for a game. You would make a copy named sample_vr.jpg. MAKE SURE THE NAME IS THE SAME AS THE ORIGINAL IS NAMED. IF IT HAS "COPY" IN IT, IT WON"T WORK!

#2. Restart steam. If you do not, steam will not recognize the changed new screenshot name.

#3. Find the game in your screenshot list, or check "last session" to upload the screenshot.

#4. Hopefully, this method works. It worked for me!

The non-steam game method of screenshots to upload to steam
This is a method mentioned by a friend of mine.

If you want to download screenshots for non-steam games, for example a game on gog or origin use the following method described below.

Where you put the appid number, you do this instead:

Go to the folder like shown below. This may change depending on where you save steam games. Also, this may change depending if your using x32 or x64 system. This is the default basic spot they are saved at

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\USER_ID\760\remote\THE NEW GAMEID\screenshots\thumbnails

The New game id should be 760 also, just like the one after user_id.

So new game = 760.

Example of this should look like this:

C:\Steam\userdata\USER_ID\760\remote\760\screenshots\thumbnails

The original screenshot should be saved in jpeg format. As the other method above mentioned, also use the xxxx_vr.jpg copy of the image also.

I hope this method works.

Thanks for the following people who helped me with figuring out how to take a screenshot image:

This guide had some helpful tips which i used in my guide, but I changed some of the ways on how to do things in my guide due to confusion, such as pasting images in paint, and about what to do, since im a beginner, and aim to help other beginners.

I also wanted to point out that i first learned this alternative method from a friend who referred me to the guide above.

==============================================================================

I also want to thank player Quebec Dragon for mentioning another method for doing non-steam games. If if was not for their help, i would of not known about that method.

The Cons of this method..
There are a couple bad points of using this method. I will outline them in here:

#1. Only one screenshot can be taken using the prinscreen button.

#2. Step 2 and 3 will need to be repeated everytime you add a new screenshot. Also, you won't have to restart your pc, but just the steam app.

if you get the error as described above in secondary method, you will need to use that method, while using step 2 to place the folder so steam recognizes the game.

If you try to upload images for non-steam games, you need to use "the non-steam game" technique.

Hi! I was trying the secondary method (because I consulted uniQ's guide first) and when I tried to upload a screenshot, it gave me the following error message: "There was an error uploading one screenshot. Steam Cloud may be temporarily unavailable". Yet I know that's not the case.
Do you know if the secondary method still works now?

Not good to fix a typo WITH a typo!
