Introduction
Welcome to the achievement guide for Diehard Dungeon!

The purpose of this guide is to give a clear and concise overview of the requirements for earning all 69 achievements in the game and reaching that perfect 100% completion.

Diehard Dungeon is a rogue-lite, so there are no missable achievements because you can replay the game multiple times. One full playthrough should take about 30 minutes and 100% completion should be possible within 10-15 hours, depending on skill.

The game has a dynamic difficulty curve that increases as you gain ranks. The more you play, the more difficult the game becomes. However, if you are already acquainted with rogue-lites then you should find the game appropriately challenging and fair, not bang-your-head-against-the-table frustrating as certain rogue-lites can sometimes be.

With all that out of the way, let's begin!
Abilities
Abilities can randomly be acquired from chests and token wells. You could theoretically get any of the following abilities from the very first chest you encounter (except Dash, see below). If you play the game enough, you should eventually get them all.

Slash
Obtain Slash ability.

Sword damage and range increased. Your sword swings in a larger arc and deals more damage.

Repel
Obtain Repel ability.

Push back foes. Your sword strikes do increased knockback.

Knives
Obtain Knives ability.

The sword attack is followed by a knife throw. You fling a knife after every sword strike.

Pierce
Obtain Pierce ability.

Hit a cannonball with the sword to turn it into a piercing blade, damaging everything in its path. Yeah, pretty much does what it says on the tin.

Kaboom
Obtain Kaboom ability.

Increased damage radius. Your hand cannon shots have a larger area-of-effect.

Heavy Duty
Obtain Heavy Duty ability.

Increased impact damage. Your hand cannon shots deal more damage on impact.

Toasty
Obtain Toasty ability.

Fire damage. Your hand cannon shots also spread fire on explosion.

Scatter
Obtain Scatter ability.

Shrapnel damage. Your hand cannon shots also spread shrapnel on explosion.

Trigger Happy
Obtain Trigger Happy ability.

Rapid fire! You can fire your hand cannon faster.

Triple Shot
Obtain Triple Shot ability.

Triple-barreled mayhem! Two smaller cannon balls are added to each shot.

Courage
Obtain Courage ability.

Immune to fear. You are not affected by the Fear status effect.

Mithridate
Obtain Mithridate ability.

Immune to poison. You are not affected by the Poison (slow) status effect.

Vision
Obtain Vision ability.

Immune to blind. You are not affected by the Blind status effect.

Fireproof
Obtain Fireproof ability.

Fire will not engulf you. You can still catch fire, but you will not take any damage.

Iron Grip
Obtain Iron Grip ability.

Reduces the chance of dropping your weapons. Less chance of losing a weapon when hit.

Sense
Obtain Sense ability.

Trap locations revealed. Pressure plates are highlighted on the ground.

Looter
Obtain Looter ability.

Chest spin chances will never stop on 0. You always get at least one roll from treasure chests.

Forget-Me-Not
Obtain Forget-Me-Not ability.

Restart in area where you died, retaining all items and abilities. Basically an extra life. Re-rolls the room and gives you a free chest after respawning. Does not retain extra heart containers.

Heartbreaker
Obtain Heartbreaker ability.

Some foes will lose their hearts to you. Enemies have a chance to drop hearts when killed. One of the most useful abilities in the game.

Lightfoot
Obtain Lightfoot ability.

Movement speed increased. You no longer trigger traps. You move quicker and can safely walk over pressure plates. One of the most useful abilities in the game.

Voodoo
Obtain Voodoo ability.

Press R to sacrifice a life, killing everything (bosses take 50% damage to current health). Lose one heart to kill everything in the current room (or heavily damage a boss). The ability is removed after a single use.

Reflex
Obtain Reflex ability.

Press R to temporarily slow down time. Cannot be used in boss rooms. Enemies in current room move in slow motion. The ability is removed after a single use.

Attract
Obtain Attract ability.

Companion chest treasure collecting range increased. Allows your chest to collect treasure from a longer distance.

Houdini
Obtain Houdini ability.

Press F to enter the companion chest. Allows you to zoom around the room. Note that you are not invulnerable while inside the chest.

Dash
Obtain Dash ability.

Press left-click whilst in the companion chest to deal some damage. Allows you to charge with the chest, damaging everything in your path. You first need to acquire the Houdini ability before the Dash ability can spawn.
Ranks
Fighter
Attain Fighter rank.

Warrior
Attain Warrior rank.

Valiant
Attain Valiant rank.

Adept
Attain Adept rank.

Slayer
Attain Slayer rank.

Hero
Attain Hero rank.

Champion
Attain Champion rank.

Legend
Attain Legend rank.

Diehard
Attain Diehard rank.

You start the game at the rank of Rogue. As you progress, you will earn experience towards new ranks every time you finish a room. The further you get, the more experience you earn. You will lose a portion of experience every time you die (it's possible to de-rank). It took me around 4-5 hours to reach Diehard rank and I only managed to beat the final boss about four times.
Bosses
Like in any rogue-lite, the boss encounters are randomized. You will fight one boss at the end of each area, up to three per playthrough. Whenever you pick the hard path, the boss will also spawn as an upgraded version, which usually just means that the boss is faster and has more health. The third boss in any playthrough is always the hard version, even if you pick the easier path. Higher ranks and Champion Mode offer only hard paths.

Hive Mind
Defeat Hive Mind.

Hive Mind - HARD
Defeat Hive Mind.

Will periodically become enraged and gain a brief speed boost. Occasionally summons various small slime enemies. One of the easiest bosses to beat.

Mr Illusion
Defeat Mr Illusion.

Mr Illusion - HARD
Defeat Mr Illusion.

Stomps the ground, teleports around and summons warping enemies. He will continuously shrink as he receives damage and will eventually stop stomping and start shooting projectiles.

Evil Chest
Defeat Evil Chest.

Evil Chest - HARD
Defeat Evil Chest.

Likely the easiest boss to beat. He just floats around, teleports and shoots projectiles.

Giant Oaf
Defeat Giant Oaf.

Giant Oaf - HARD
Defeat Giant Oaf.

Basically a huge version of the regular oaf enemy. Will constantly try to charge you (will stun himself if he charges into a wall). He also summons smaller oaf enemies.

Zombie Chest
Defeat Zombie Chest.

Zombie Chest - HARD
Defeat Zombie Chest.

One of the trickier bosses. Usually stomps around, but will occasionally charge at you very quickly. Also summons zombies.

Stumpy
Defeat Stumpy.

Stumpy - HARD
Defeat Stumpy.

Another tricky boss. If you attack him, his head will detatch and try to hit you, while the body will start shooting projectiles. Destroying the head will make him instantly grow a new one. Only get close to him when he is in one piece, and keep your distance whenever he is disembodied.

DM
Defeat the Dungeon Master.

The REAL boss of the game. The dungeon master sometimes appears in random rooms, walking on the surrounding walls. If you get too close to him, he will either summon a spectre of himself to attack you, or a spectre of another player (at higher ranks). These encounters have no bearing on the actual boss fight itself.

Quoting the developer: "To fight the DM, you need to reach the final boss by taking only hard routes and defeat 5 of his spectres (the blue version of him) in the final boss room. Any spectres you defeat before the final boss room aren't counted. Champion Mode isn't a requirement to fight the DM."

The fight with the DM himself is pretty much identical to the fight with his spectres, although he will constantly change the room to fill it with traps. Having the Lightfoot ability is highly recommended.

The main thing to watch out for is killing the 5 spectres in the final boss room. If you defeat the boss before killing enough spectres, the dungeon master disappears and you don't get to fight him.

Gold Chest
Open the gold chest.

The gold chest appears in the room after the final boss fight. It contains five tokens, and allows you to leave behind a spectre of yourself for other players to encounter in Champion Mode.

Escape
Escape the dungeon.

This basically means completing the game by beating the final boss (either a regular random third boss or Dungeon Master) and exiting the dungeon.

Escape Champion
Escape the dungeon in Champion Mode.

You first need to find ten golden keys in a single playthrough to unlock Chamption Mode. These keys can be found as random drops and shouldn’t be too hard to get. Once the Champion Mode is unlocked, you can activate it by hitting the orb on the wall before entering the first room of the dungeon.

Champion Mode makes player spectres randomly appear on the walls. Red spectres are hostile, blue are friendly. If you get too close to a spectre, it will either help or hinder you. As long as you avoid the edges of the room, it’s possible to avoid the spectres altogether.

Complete
Escape the dungeon at Diehard rank, in Champion Mode, and defeat the Dungeon Master.

This might seem challenging, but is actually quite manageable if you get a decent start in terms of abilities and extra heart containers from token wells. There's no real trick to it. By the time you rank up to Diehard, you should already be skilled enough to complete a single run in Champion Mode.
Minigames
These can be played from the main menu.

Maximum Mayhem
Achieve rank 10 in Mayhem.

The Mayhem minigame is basically a twin-stick shooter with you controlling the companion chest and mowing down randomly-spawning enemies. It should only take a minute or two to reach rank 10 and it's not at all difficult to do.

Survivor
Survive 20 rooms of Survival.

This minigame can be unlocked by either reaching Diehard rank or paying 30 tokens. Not particularly difficult for anyone who is already playing on Diehard level (I did it on my first try). Note that the random abilities you are awarded on Survival do not unlock the associated achievements.

Lightspeed
Complete Fading Light in under 3 minutes.

This minigame can be unlocked by paying 10 tokens. It might take a few attempts, but it's not too hard. Just be aggressive and take out the hovering eyes instead of trying to avoid them and you should have no trouble.
Cumulative
You can track your progress for most of these achievements under the Stats menu or in the Steam overlay. Some of these achievements should come naturally without even trying, but some require conscious effort on your part (especially Firestarter, see below).

Treasure Hoard
Collect 10,000 treasure.

This counts the total treasure collected across all playthroughs. You should easily reach the required amount in the first few hours.

Darkness
Destroy 300 lights.

This counts all the torches you destroy across all playthroughs. It’s always advisable to destroy them, because they often drop treasure (blue torches can also drop hearts).

Destroyer
Destroy 1000 containers.

This counts all the containers you destroy across all playthroughs. Like with the torches, you should get this achievement within a few hours.

1Up
Pickup 100 hearts.

This simply counts all the hearts you pick up across all playthroughs.

Heart Avoider
Avoid picking up 20 hearts.

You’ll need to leave a total of 20 hearts lying on the ground without picking them up. Not picking up hearts also increases the XP gained for clearing the room, allowing you to rank up a bit faster.

Chest Avoider
Avoid opening 10 chests.

You’ll need to leave a total of 10 chests unopened when leaving a room. Not opening chests also increases the XP gained for clearing the room, allowing you to rank up a bit faster.

Sabotage
Destroy 20 chests.

Destroying chests can accidentally happen if you are careless with your cannon shots. Destroying a chest makes it drop a heart or token (much like a failed roll). This achievement also counts the yellow chests you’d need to destroy anyway.

Token Saver
Have 20 tokens.

Tokens are collectibles that carry over between playthroughs. They can be used to unlock the two minigames in the main menu (one-time use) or dropped in token wells to get random benefits (see Token Appreciation). Just avoid spending tokens until you have collected 20 of them.

Token Appreciation
Use 50 tokens.

Token wells are found in random rooms. Each well can be used a random number of times. You should find plenty of tokens in the game, so there’s no real reason to hoard them. For every token, you receive either a random ability, some treasure, extra heart, extra tokens, etc. You can also receive empty health containers (max life increase), temporary powerups, or an instant upgrade to your companion chest (see Companion Max).

Companion Max
The Companion Chest upgrades to its maximum level.

You companion chest collects all the treasure that’s laying around (rings, gold, etc). It will upgrade itself after collecting enough loot, becoming a useful and effective ally against enemies. There are five upgrade levels:
  • Level 1 (blue): no abilities
  • Level 2 (green): gains the ground stomp ability
  • Level 3 (red): also gains ability to shoot spikes at enemies
  • Level 4 (blue/gold): also gains ability to spawn a stationary chest that also shoots spikes
  • Level 5 (green/pink): spikes occasionally cause status effects
You should easily reach maximum level by the end of a playthrough. The chest will drop a free token on each level-up, and will keep dropping tokens as it collects more treasure after it's been maxed.

Beam Me Up
Use 20 Teleporters.

To access a teleporter, you need to find a hidden orb behind a cracked wall which appear in random rooms and might be more common at lower ranks. Standing on the teleporter takes you to a small room containing either a token well, blue treasure chest (guaranteed random ability), some random containers or a minigame (see Trapdoor Win).

Trapdoor Win
Win a Trapdoor game.

When entering a secret room via teleporter, it can occasionally contain a trapdoor game instead of a chest. You need to extinguish 100 fires as the companion chest to win a random ability. The game itself is incredibly easy, although you sometimes need to dodge two chests instead of one.

Vanquish
Defeat 2000 enemies.

This simply counts all the enemies you kill across all playthroughs.

Death by Fire
Defeat 200 enemies by setting them on fire.

Enemies tend to set each other on fire quite often, so this achievement might pop without any effort on your part. Destroying torches near enemies is generally a good way to set them on fire.

Firestarter
Destroy 500 containers with fire.

This is the last acheivement I earned. It’s by no means difficult, only a bit tedious. I strongly suggest you do this before ranking up too much, because torches will become much more scarce on higher ranks and you won’t have many chances to burn containers. The easiest way to do this is to set yourself on fire by destroying a torch, then walk up to a container. It will catch fire and spread it to neighboring containers as well.

If you’re having trouble finding enough suitable containers, you can manually de-rank yourself from the Stats menu to make it easier.
Conclusion
That's it. I hope this guide has been useful.

Thanks for reading.

Good luck and have fun playing!

I abandoned the game a while ago but I'm wiling to go back and try again if I find a useful guide/tip to for the Komplete, Survivor and Escape champion achievements. I may be missing something (like perma perks if any ?) .
Otherwise it's solely based on luck and sucks big time :ChipStern:

About what I expected, but the boss tips are helpful in general - especially if you're going into them blind. I play like a panzy so I hit diehard in no time, but it might make a few of these achievements a bit harder. ;^^)

Nevermind I got the achievement. Survivor is harder than described, impossible for me so far, and not relying on the rank it would seem :Durno:
Escape Champion is tricky as well, requires a lucky run :looking_sharp:

If someone could help that would be nice: I'm wondering if the containers destroyed with fire in Survival mode count for the achivement. Cheers.
