The game won't start, or crashes on startup.
Here are some things to try, with the most common solutions at the top:
  • Verify your game cache. In Steam, right-click Obliteracers > Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game cache.
  • Make sure you aren’t running a program incompatible with Steam, typically antivirus: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9828-SFLZ-9289
  • Check Steam is running in administrator mode:
    https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=5688-ifhz-2170
  • Ensure your graphics drivers are up to date.
  • Uninstall VS 2015 C++ redistributable x64 and x86, then run the UE4 prerequisites here:
    "<your steam install folder>\steamapps\common\Obliteracers\Engine\Extras\Redist\en-us\UE4PrereqSetup_x64.exe"
  • Ensure Windows is up to date via Windows Update.
  • Verify and repair Windows' system files. Go into a command prompt and run "sfc /scannow"
  • Try running the game as a different Windows user. A corrupt Windows user profile can sometimes cause games to crash with a low level fatal error.
If the problem persists, please contact us so we can fix it!
The game crashes after a while.
If you're seeing a BSOD (blue screen of death), this is most likely a problem with your graphics drivers or another device on your system.

If you're seeing a Fatal Error dialog this is most likely our fault, and we really want you to report it to us so we can fix it. As an added incentive, Michael will send you a picture of his puppy!

Also try the steps above when the game crashes on startup.
I have an AMD card and the game stalls for long periods when v-sync is on.
We have seen this issue and it is related to AMD drivers v15.9 and above (including v16.1.1). It seems to affect various systems in slightly different ways, and is affecting other DX11 games aside from Obliteracers too. The specific issue you are seeing is caused by the drivers when we call to present the image to the screen. For an unknown bug/reason beyond our control, it just seems to stall for a second or two before returning control to the game.

We are continuing to look into a solution, but here are some short-term workarounds:
  • Play fullscreen (with v-sync on or off, can't be windowed or windowed fullscreen).
  • If you need to play windowed, turn off v-sync.
  • Uninstall problematic drivers and then install 15.7.1.

If you see this issue, please also report it to AMD here: http://www.amdsurveys.com/se.ashx?s=5A1E27D23A3DE979
My smartphone/tablet/laptop isn't connecting to the game.
  • Check the device is on the same network as the game (wifi/ethernet cable).
  • Check Windows Firewall isn't blocking the Obliteracers application. The specific port used for Obliteracers Gamepad is 4440.
  • If you're a big nerd and have multiple network adapters, you may be displaying the wrong IP address. In game, look under Options > Controls > Obliteracers Gamepad > IP Address.
I'm having trouble controlling my racer with a smartphone/tablet.
Within the Obliteracers Gamepad application, there are several different layouts and customisation options to try out. Tap the gear icon at the top of the screen to see them all.

If you're stuck on the starting line, you need to swipe up to lock your accelerator on. Do this on the last countdown beep for a boost!

If you have an older smartphone, the Obliteracers Gamepad application may run sluggish. Check the System Requirements minimum on the Obliteracers store page if in doubt.

If you're seeing other strange behaviour, try a different web browser.
I can't invite players into my private game via the Steam overlay.
To invite players into a private hosted game, start the game on the host, then bring up the in-game menu and choose "Invite Players".
I can't host/join an online multiplayer game.
To host a game:
  • On the host PC, select Versus > Host Public > Play > Choose Your Racer > (join additional local players on the host PC) > Start Game.
  • Once the game has started (ie. you're waiting at the starting line and can see your vehicle), it will show up in the Join Server List for your friends.
  • Online players cannot join while you are on the Choose Your Racer screen, as the game hasn't started yet.

To join a game:
  • On the client PC, select Versus > Join.
  • Choose a server from the list. Sometimes no servers will appear as Obliteracers is a peer-to-peer hosted network game, meaning there are no dedicated servers. In this case, you can host your own game instead.

To invite friends once in-game:
  • Go into the pause menu and choose Invite Players.
  • Alternatively, if you started a Public or Friends Only game, others can also join your game through Steam by right-clicking on your name in Chat and choosing Join Game.
