Introduction
Hush hush hush, here comes the Boogeyman, don't let him come too close to you, he'll catch you if he can!

Hopefully with the help of this guide, and having some wits about you, that won't happen.

Exploration
Introduced in a recent (as of this writing) update, you can now explore your house. It's an option, though, and if you want to play the game without the exploration, feel free to turn it off.

In between each successful night of survival, you'll have to explore. You begin each night having misplaced your flashlight, and it's the one item you need to go back into your bedroom. There are other items you can collect to help you as well, but there's also the Boogeyman to contend with!

Items
I've found five items so far. Should I find any others, I'll update.

Flashlight

The flashlight is your only required item to enter the bedroom, and it'll be found in a random location each time. You can't actually use it when exploring the house, but as you go back into the bedroom, it becomes what you're used to.

Glowsticks

Glowsticks can be found randomly, and will be added to your inventory. When you return to your bedroom for the night, you can drop the glowsticks to give you a slight light advantage. They'll drop near the closet, door and window, and will last for a few hours before dying out.

Coffee

Coffee, when used, will speed up time for a little bit, a couple of hours worth. You can watch the increase on the clock on your shelf.

Cherry Bomb

The cherry bomb creates a large light blast, which will close any entries that the Boogeyman has propped open, such as the window or the door being wide open.

Audio Tape

You'll likely get one audio tape per night. They can be used in the tape player in the living room, and fills you in on some background story.

Rooms
There are a few rooms that you can explore.

Upper Level
On the upper level, there are five doors; your room, keypad locked room, sister's room, parents room and bathroom. The only room available to you is the bathroom (I've yet to find any keypad combination).

Bathroom

If an item spawns in the bathroom, it'll be to the back right on the shelf. Slowly open the door. If you see the outlines of the Boogeyman in the tub, close the door and immediately re-open it. He'll be gone and you can enter. Be sure to turn the light on (right of the door if it facing from inside the bathroom).

Lower Level
There are three doors you can enter on the lower level, not counting the basement.

Living Room

The living room holds the tape player, as well as a document on the table. Slowly open the door, and look to your right. If you see the outlines of a hand and part of a body, that's your good friend the Boogeyman, so shut the door and leave him alone, then immediately reopen it. Remember to turn the light on, to the right of the door as you enter.

Storage Room

This room is perpetually dark (I can't find a light switch in it). This is a storage room, and if an item spawns in here, it'll be on the floor between the boxes. Open the door slowly, and if you see a hand on the door as you open it, let the door shut fully then open it again.

Dining Room/Kitchen

When you open the door to the dining room, look for the outline of the Boogeyman. If you see him, let it shut and reopen it, and he'll be gone. Be sure to turn the light on.

Follow the dining room to the end and you'll see the kitchen. In the kitchen, you might find an audio tape on the right hand side. You may also find the flashlight by the fridge on the counter. If you open the cupboard to the bottom left of the sink, you'll find something in there; for me, it's almost always been coffee.
The Bedroom
The Bedroom is where the original game entirely took place, and it's here where you need to survive until 6am, by managing your flashlight battery and catching the Boogeyman before he catches you.

Boogeyman Entrances
The Boogeyman can enter your bedroom through one of four points; closet, door, ceiling vent or window.

Closet

Door

Ceiling Vent

Window

Each entry point has its own sound, which the game tells you when you first begin. The closet has a sort of creak, the door sounds, well, like a door being opened slowly, the vent has a metallic kind of sound, and the window has a wood grinding on wood kind of sound.

To catch the Boogeyman, you need to shine your flashlight on him when he tries to enter the room.

Distractions
There are several distractions that serve to obfuscate the noise of the Boogeyman entering the room.

You'll hear heavy winds, rain and an owl hooting from outside. Your TV will flash on and have loud static for a few seconds. The cymbal monkey will suddenly activate. Your phone will ring. The jack in the box will wind up. A toy airplane will move across the floor. A ball will bounce a few times.

Night 5
As each night comes, the game gets progressively harder. The Boogeyman will show up more frequently, distractions become more numerous, and the four entry points change somewhat.

I've made it to night five, and it seems that if the Boogeyman is at the door and you don't get him almost instantly, the door stays open even wider, making detecting him all the more harder, because you don't hear the door creak as much. When exploring the house, you'll now see a ghost. She follows a path, but if you get in it, you'll become a ghost yourself, ie: dead.

Night 6
Night six gets very hard. Sometimes there will be two Boogeymen! He'll enter one point and as soon as you shine the light, another entry point has a Boogeyman a quarter of the way in. You really need to be on your toes. The vent, door and window will all stay open if you don't catch him soon enough, making it even harder.

When exploring, the ghost is more frequent in her appearance, and she'll turn the lights off quicker than before.

Night 7 - Halloween
Night seven, All Hallows Eve, is the final night.

To begin, if you've enabled exploration, two items will not be randomized, and will always be found in the same spot. Go to the kitchen, and get the batteries from the cupboard. Then, go to the basement. Yes, the basement. Run to the flashlight, grab it, then shine it quickly at the Boogeyman. Walk toward the window, and a quick scene will take over.

Once you're back in control, open the basement door, and head back upstairs to your bedroom.

This is quite a difficult night. You're dealing with an extremely fast Boogeyman, limited time to flash him before an entry is opened all the way, as well as the ghost, who also needs to be flashed. You'll need to be quick on the draw to recharge your flashlight; as soon as you've flashed the Boogeyman, get a new one. There's still the chance he'll be under the bed, but if you delay at all, by the time you get back up, chances are the vent or window will be open.

Make good use of your coffee and cherry bomb; the glowsticks help, but they're far less important.

@The Panic Wolf: I only updated it when I did in 2022 to change some contact info, the guide itself is still at least five years old so it’s most likely out of date. Or it’s not and that’s just not something that I encountered.

This guide may be out-dated, or not, I'm not sure, but there is something I did notice.

I had died to The Boogeyman when going back to the room, I'm 99% sure he got me from the vent above, I'm not sure why that happened, is it just random and I have to wait until he isn't there anymore? The 2nd time I did it, I watched and listened to the vent, and he wasn't there.
