Improving the Controls
By vandervast
A simple but essential tweak that will make in-game controls faster and more responsive, and the game more enjoyable.

TL;DR
  • Start the game and go into Options.

  • Set "Mouse Setup (DPI)" setting to lowest possible value (100).

  • Set your mouse's internal DPI to around 800.

    Have fun.

"Why do I need this?"
Default controls are incredibly slow and unresponsive. This means that even performing basic moves will have you dragging your mouse all over the place, knocking everything off your desk, suffering excruciating arm pain, and finally ragequitting without giving this game a fair chance.
"Can't I just increase DPI on my mouse?"
No.

Because of some weirdness within the game's engine, no matter how you adjust the settings on your mouse - the game will still feel unresponsive or even unplayable.

Before you mess with your mouse's settings, you'll first need to mess with the game's settings.
"So how do I make controls not suck?"
  1. Start the game and go to the options screen.
  2. At the bottom you will see a setting called "Mouse Setup (DPI)".
Set it to lowest possible value (100) by dragging the green bar to the left.

  3. The unfortunate side-effect is increased mouse sensitivity in menus. To counter that, set your mouse's internal DPI to around 800 (NOT the in-game setting).

How to do this - depends on your mouse. It may have a DPI-switch button built into the mouse itself, or it may come with the software where you can adjust it. Or it might not be adjustable at all, in which case you'll need to check mouse's specifications on the package, manual, or manufacturer's website to find out what its DPI is.

Or you can just try and tolerate the high sensitivity in menus, since you won't be spending much time there anyway.

I found the combination of 100 in-game DPI and 800 mouse DPI to be an optimal setup.
It offers fast and responsive controls during gameplay, and tolerable mouse sensitivity in menus. You can of course go higher or lower with mouse DPI, but I found that going higher doesn't make much difference during gameplay and only makes mouse too fast in the menus, while going lower makes controls uncomfortably slow.

putting the game on 2X speedhack using cheat engine also makes the physics engine not stink
