The Crops
The crops are broken down by season, ignoring Wheat because it is best used for yourself, not sold. Later on in the game, you're better off using farming for things you need to make food and gifts, because you can make a lot more money faster by mining and taking care of animals.

The numbers are as follows:
(Number of harvests per season x sell price for 1 crop) 1 plot / x20 plots - cost of 1 pack of seeds = season sale total

The final total is taking maximums into account, so the maximum number of seeds purchased subtracted from selling the maximum possible that season.

Spring:
Strawberry = (8x42) 336/6720 - 16 = 4160
Potato = (6x46) 276/5520 - 18 = 3360
Cabbage = (5x44) 220/4400 - 15 = 2900

Summer:
Tomato = (8x40) 320/6400 - 15 = 4000
Corn = (6x44) 264/5280 - 18 = 3120
Melon = (5x46) 230/4600 - 16 = 3000

Autumn:
Onion = (8x40) 320/6400 - 15 = 4000
Carrot = (6x38) 228/4560 - 18 = 2400
Pumpkin = (5x45) 225/4500 - 16 = 2900

(Harvesting one crop and planting a new one on the same day counts as a growing day, btw!)

The watering can upgrades can be purchased twice at the Farm after shipping a certain number of crops.
Level 1: waters 8 plots
Level 2: waters 14 plots
Level 3: waters 20 plots

Protip:
You'll need to grow each crop type at least once to please one of the five Feral Shades.
Once you have a good farming rhythm down, you will only need to spend an hour of your game day at most taking care of it - 3 hours on harvest/replant days.
If you follow basic mining tips in the next section, and spend most of your daily EN swinging your pickaxe, by Summer you'll easily pull in 1000c+ (likely more) on days you relegate to mining. Once you've bought most items (especially an Icebox), farming food can be kept for cooking/gifts.
Mining, Eden Fruit, and You
When you get an Eden Fruit, do not eat it right away. (Well, you can if you REALLY want to, but hear me out?)

Eden Fruit (they resemble peaches, and appear in your 'Special' items tab) restores your EN to full, along with giving you a permanent boost to your EN capacity.

Save them for a day when you have nothing really going on that requires your attention, and it isn't raining. As soon as you're done with whatever crops you have, go to the mine.

The mine is just to the north of the fishing hut, across the stones.

Always start mining from the 5th floor. Heck, keep refreshing the 5th floor.

"But it uses the most energy!"

So? I cri for you. Everytiem.

There is a table you can eat at on the 3rd floor. Remember those Eden Fruits? Uh-huh.

The fifth floor has the best chance at finding actual rocks, especially the kinds that give diamonds. You really want diamonds, because they sell for more than twice as much as sapphires, the 2nd best gem.

So take yourself and your fruit/food down to the fifth floor, and start smacking the boulders with a pickaxe like it's going out of style. Run out of boulders? Pop up to the 4th floor, then go back down. When you get almost to zero EN, stop what you're doing and go to the third floor table if you aren't already there. If you have a fruit - bam! Full energy bar, plus more energy than you had before. Otherwise eat other food, then go back down and repeat. You can leave, head to the Hot Springs, then go down there again if you want.

Enjoy your earnings.

The Hot Springs are just to the east of the fishing hut, across the bridge.

Do not go to bed with a nearly empty EN bar if it is raining! You'll have a high chance of getting sick and wasting a day and money getting better.

The pickaxe can be upgraded on a day that Benjamin is working the counter in his shop. You'll have to break a lot of rocks before you can upgrade it all the way.
Iron: 4 swings
Steel: 3 swings
Silver: 2 swings

With a Silver pickaxe, and having eaten 5 Eden Fruits, I am 3 rocks short of being able to do 4 full level 5 clears on one EN bar. Eating no food but using the hot springs for a second run, that was nearly 8 full level 5 clears. The haul from that was 39 Grubby Stones, 16 Gleaming Stones, and 5 Sparkling Stones. (To be honest, I usually get many more Sparkling. Odd.)

They refined into 15 Amber, 10 Opal, 7 Sapphire, and 3 Diamonds. That translates into 1,098c. Not bad for a single day's haul.

Mining can still be completely random, though. I've gotten 1000c+ hauls before with fewer level 5 clears, but a lot of it depends on your luck in getting diamonds.
Barn Animals
If you've ever played any other game like Harvest Moon (or other farm-type games), animals are a pretty big initial investment in both time and money before they start to pay themselves off. But once they do, you'll usually start rolling in the coinage.

Use the bell in the barn to move your animals outside on sunny days early in the morning, and then bring them back in at night before you go to bed. Leave them in the barn on rainy days.

A chicken costs 1020c, and then feed for it costs 5c per day.
A single chicken Egg sells for 26c. After about 2 weeks, a chicken will lay a 2nd egg if its mood is good enough.

With one Egg, it will take approximately 49 days for a chicken to pay for itself. With two, it will take 25 days. Since it takes about a week for the first egg, and the second egg does not arrive for about another week after that, and assuming you can keep your chicken euphoric, I estimate it taking approximately 32 days for most people before your chicken breaks even and then becomes pure profit (or a gift/ingredient machine).

A cow costs 1450c, and then feed for it costs 8c per day.
I will not be including the price of the mood-increasing brush (350c), since it is only a single purchase and works on every cow. A single Tasty Milk sells for 35c. (Interestingly enough you can also mix Pure Water and Coconut Milk to get a Tasty Milk as well.)

With one Tasty Milk it will take 54 days (almost 2 full seasons) for a cow to pay for itself. There is the situation again, though, of getting the second milk after a couple weeks - cutting the return to 26 days. Therefore, much like with the chicken, it will be approximately 33 days before your cow breaks even.

The horse costs 2000c, and doesn't give you any money back.
The advantage to having the horse is moving quickly around the map and not having to use your EN to do it anymore. You'll eventually need to purchase the horse for an achievement and mark anyway, but if you're good at managing your time and EN usage, this can be put off for a while.
How To Make Friends and Influence Villagers
Talk to people. All the time, whenever you see them.

Need to buy something at a shop? Talk to the owner (from behind the counter) then go buy what you want. Stop by any other nearby open shops and talk to them as well. Sometimes there may be other people visiting too. I call that a bonus.

Part of the objective of the game is to become friends with as many people as you can. Give gifts if you want, but talking to them whenever you see them is a good way to do it too.

For your 'love' target, figure out who you want as soon as you start playing. Learn their routine, try to talk to them every day you can manage. Bring them gifts every once in a while too. You should be at 2 hearts minimum by the 3rd week of spring if you do that - so you can be their partner for the Music Festival. After that, just keep chugging along.

You'd be surprised at the level of dialogue in the game, most people will always have something different to say (bring your dog around too) before, during, and after festivals.

Recap for making friends:
  • Talk to people whenever you see them, if they have the music note appear when you chat, it's a boost.
  • A heart icon instead of a music note means it's something they really like.
  • Working a part-time job at a location will give you a relationship boost with everyone in that family. I work at the bar because I'm dating Brynn. Doing so has also increased my friendship with Orion and Indigo to the next stage, though I have never gifted either one and I rarely talk to Indigo unless I see him at the bar as well, or we play LockBall.
  • Playing LockBall with someone will increase your rep with them. (Not sure if a different amount gained between winning/losing.

Welcoming back to the village:
- Fable: The librarian, she returns shortly after gaining the full support/friendship of the Feral Shade Ardith (Friendship). She started with a level 3 (yellow) friendship with my character.
- Siloh: Sister to Sparrow and another baker, she returns to the village shortly after gaining the full support of the Feral Shade Jade (Nature). She started with a level 3 (yellow) friendship with my character.
Cats and Dogs
You start out with a dog. Feed it every day. After 2 to 3 weeks of feeding you'll be visited in the morning by the owner of the Ranch, who tells you that you can now send your dog with a list and money to do shopping for you. You may also need to take your dog for walks, which I did consistently in order to dig up bunches of coin. Maybe someone else can verify if just feeding works? (The dog can shop for up to 9 quantity of 1 item at the Ranch and Farm only)

Once you have the shovel, bring your dog with you wherever you go in the early game - it will bark occasionally as you're walking. Stop where you are and dig. If nothing happens, move back one spot (or two) and try again. You'll get a message that it found some coins for you. This is pretty handy in the early coin-pinching days.

There is a cat under a big tree by the ocean. Feed it fish you've caught (doesn't matter what kind) for roughly 14 days (does not have to be consecutively) and it will come to live with you. For you Achievement Hunters out there, this gives you one.
"But what about (enter junk name here)?"
Early on, when you're strapped for money, sell everything so that you can buy enough seeds to fill all 20 plots. Your first plots should probably be 18 strawberries, plus 2 plots of potatoes (for the Piping Stew quest).

You'll also want some coin to be able to buy a 2nd glass bottle if you aren't having luck finding one by digging. You'll get at least one bottle for free from Brynn during the Piping Stew questline. Bottles are nice to have for gathering ingredients, because a lot of people like drinks as gifts - especially for winning the affections of who you have your eyes on.

Once you have a decent sized war chest to cover you in case if you have to do some emergency spending (Like a Festival, Paxel returns with new goodies for sale, or a 'derp' moment), just start hoarding the random items to give exclusively as gifts, for cooking into better gifts, or mining 'fuel'. The amount of coins they give for sale is a pittance when compared to crops and mining gems.

If you have any seasonal 'Vittles', like the bananas and grapes, left over that you haven't given as gifts on the last day of spring, sell them unless you have an Icebox. Otherwise they will expire! (This is true of any seasonal crop as well until you get the Icebox.)
Dig Dig Dig!
If you have any extra stamina that you won't use, dig dig dig! Just dig as you're walking back to your farm from wherever you are.

Why do this?

- Single Coins
- Grubby Stones
- Fish Bait One (Juicy Bait)
- Fish Bait Two (Sinker Drops)
- 1 Eden Fruit
- 1 Glass Bottle
- 1 Mystical Ocarina

Finally, sage glop. This one can appear multiple times, after doing a bunch of digs. Haven't counted, but I'd venture a guess to say it happens once every 20 to 40 digs. The glop quizzes you, if you get it right, you get a prize.

Prizes include the usual items - from coins to dog food, even an Empty Bottle and and Eden Fruit!
LockBall
LockBall is fairly straightforward to play - it's just a very simplified football/soccer for 2 people.

Holding the action button (default Space/Enter) will lock your goal when the opponent has the ball about to score, but it doesn't always work because your skills start off low. They will get better over time as you play.

There is a trick to winning, if your timing is decent. If you're fast enough, you can just kick the ball forward and score right away. Sometimes you can move up/down 1 row quickly, then shift the ball up or down and move in for the score. Feel free to practice, and only wager 1 coin if you're unsure. Eventually you'll learn the trick and become a pro.

You can only play once a day, and there isn't always someone there to play with. You must also show up before 5pm (I think), and playing takes an hour.

Once you're on a win streak and have won at least 3 matches in a row, part of the random village chat will remark at how good you are.

You get a stat increase (that only affects Lockball) for every 4th game you play. It may count if you lose a game too, but I've never lost so far, so I can only speculate.

Protip:
When playing against Paxel in the Tournament, you get a moment to do whatever you want if you can take advantage of the timing when blocking a shot on your goal. He will be stunned with an exclamation point over his head for about 3 seconds. Also, when moving to score on him, make liberal use of the spacebar to kick the ball, especially when trying to score a goal. He is the one opponent that can move just as fast as you, and he takes some brutal swipes at you - so hopefully you have some decent skills and have been practicing!
Mystic Ocarina
You'll dig this thing up at some point during your random adventures in the digging experience.

If you're like me, you'll first think, "Wow!", quickly followed by "Uh, what's it for?".

You can play it, but it does nothing. So make sure you double check the description. It will let you know when Charm Fairies are around.

It can take a while, but eventually as you're moving around you'll hear a sound play and your character will flash. Immediately stop and play your Ocarina. The fairy will appear, and will give a slight boost to one of three pre-determined targets. There are 10 fairies total.

Feral Shades
The following is a little bit spoiler-ish, so don't spoil yourself if you don't have to. This section is just in case you're curious about what it actually takes to get support.

In order to 'win' the game (though it does not end until you stop playing), you need to win the support of all the Feral Shades to keep the village 'healthy'.

Ardith - Friendship
She first appears when you have a few villagers at the level 3 ribbon (yellow). There may be different ways to get this, as the WD Wiki says you need to have 5 villagers at level 4 ribbon (green). I, however, gained her support when I got 10 members of the village to level 3 ribbon/heart status.

Jade - Respect for Nature
She appears after shipping 4 different kinds of crops. She claims you need to ship 7 different ones total. If you grow at least one crop type in one plot every season, you'll get her support with no issues. Here is where it gets odd, though: I got her support even though I was still in Summer, and only shipped 6 types total. I had -grown- 7, but I turned my wheat into flour. She also came to me on a day where I did not harvest or plant anything, and nothing was shipped either. I'm not entirely sure what triggered her support at a seemingly random time...

Freya - True Love
She appears the first time you get a marriage candidate to a level 4 heart (green). If you continue along that path and eventually marry, you will get her support.

Ivana - Generosity
She will appear for the first time right around the 1000c donation mark. If you don't already know, you can donate at the Town Hall at the counter right by the entrance. Once you've donated over 2500c, you will get her support. If you want the Fishing place to reopen, you'll need to donate that much anyway.

Khloe - Perserverance
She is the first spirit to appear, at the end of your first season, just to say you've been noticed. As for the trait she embodies, you'll need the support of all the other shades for her to support you as well.

I'm trying to figure out how to play this game. I have a fishing pole and juicy bait, but when I try to use them I can't. They're greyed out. Can anyone tell me how I can fish? Does the fisherman have to come first?
