Controller's Crux

This is the SFM version of my TF2 workshop submission: The "Controller's Crux"


It's a large worn marionette cross that's been converted into a blunt weapon by the Medic. The original cross was binded together at the midpoint using epoxy and metal rods, and then a metal crossbar with a polished wood grip was bolted to the back. It's tips have been sanded down to provide a bit more focal point force when thrusting forward. The crux has seen a bit of combat since it was repurposed into a weapon. It has sustained a bit of battle damage, and also received a bit of patchup work. The bindings on each end were originally cable used to suspend large marionettes, and have since been rewound around the wood to reduce fraying.

This is the first weapon in a set of puppetry-themed Medic weapons. The original idea for this puppet cross was to use the double board design. Basically, two boards glued together with ropes at each end. The idea ultimately morphed into the one board, two side board design when I added the grip. This ended up being the preferred design, despite being a little less logical. It does help that it conflicts less with the Medic's arm when it's one continous surface.

I feel like puppetry is something that suits the personality of the Medic. Puppetry is very much a skill of timing, finesse, coordination, and control. These all seem like skills that the Medic would value, maybe even to a unhealthy or malicious degree. Perhaps it even reflects his opinion of his team as well? That he's merely using them like puppets, a means to an end. You know what, nevermind. I'm reading too much into my own half-brained lore.
