3 days per phase, so 9 days total for it to be fully grown. It's basically like wilson's beard, you can shave it off and stuff. It helps retain heat, but it only makes things a little easier, you will still need to warm up some thermal stones and stuff before setting out.

How long does it take for the fur to grow though? I froze to death on day 22.
